http://twitter.com/JasonLaCanfora/status/12115421059 This could be a sign they might be taking Dez, because why would you trade your only deep threat the opposition has to worry about, without replacing it.....??
holmes has an expiring contract, suspended for 4 games already, and has a possibility to be suspended for the year with 1 more screw up (and that's likely). Right now, if the Jets manage to miss the playoffs, Holmes may only play 12 games for them and then split for a bigger paycheck. To be honest, it's kind of surprising Pitt got anything above a 7th for the guy. I don't think we'll get anything decent for Ginn however. but you can't use Holmes as a benchmark for all trades. Holmes is pushing Pac-man levels of stupidity.
Anything less than a 4th and it isn't worth it. His contract is small and, though he doesn't do it consistently, he is the only one on the team with his specific skill set.
per rotoworld..... Expected to eventually emerge as a dangerous playmaker and No. 1 receiver, Ginn has instead fallen behind mediocre talents Brian Hartline, Davone Bess, and Greg Camarillo. One of the most drop-plagued receivers in the NFL, Ginn is best used as a situational deep threat and explosive kickoff returner. The Dolphins shouldn't expect more than a mid-round pick in return for the Cam Cameron era's first-round swing-and-miss.
While I agree with you SICK, I will say Ginn isnt a troublemaker, not in a contract year, and is extremely gifted with something you cant teach, which is speed, maybe some team figures they can get alot of him, and ponys up a higher pick.....but again ur right Ginn isnt getting back anything worth trading him for.....however maybe he is being combined with something or someone who knows?? wait hmmm speed.....wr......call Oakland.....
No since in trading Ginn. It does not make sense to get rid of our only downfield threat when we need two!
I'm just hoping (or is it wishful thinking) that by passing on Holmes for a pittance and putting Teddy up for grabs, the FO already has a deal in place with Dallas for Myles Austin. Dez's availability is no sure thing @12 and it's hard to believe that the FO is that cavalier about the importance of a #1 WR, especially after Henne's gone public a few weeks ago with his wish list.
Agree with those who say it doesn't make sense. The compensation he would bring in won't be worth it. Personally, I'd rather he continue to be a mediocre WR here and a very good kick returner than trade him away for a 5th or 6th rounder and watch him develop into a weapon for another team. Just because he hasn't lived up to his draft status doesn't mean he can't do good things for this team. We're 6 - 10 last year with out his effort in the 2nd Jets game. You keep a guy around who singlehandedly wins you a game even if it was just one game. Even if you scrap him as a WR and relegate him to punt and kick returns. Of course the arrogance of this FO will lead them to believe they can draft someone in the 6th round who will contribute more than Ted Ginn.
inb4 smoke screen Seriously though, if this true, it didn't get out by accident. Somebody put it out there knowing full well it's intended purpose.
Okay, but who taught these NFL guys how to bargain? First, the Steelers trade Holmes for a 5th round pick when there was no rush (unless you consider 5 months until the season a rush). Then, the Jaguars announce to the world that they're removing Dez Bryant from their draft board. Now, the Dolphins put Ted Ginn, Jr. on the block TWO DAYS AFTER a Superbowl MVP WR is traded for a 5th round pick, and an off-season after he noticeably regressed.
Honestly if Denver has to lower the price on Marshall, wouldnt Ginn and a 2nd get it done HK?? I think it could be an omission of intent on Bryant, but the draft is still 9 days away, however look at these dates.... 4/15: Deadline for signing and submission of offer sheets by restricted free agents. 4/21: Deadline for old team to match offer sheets submitted by restricted free agents. hmmm why does 2 days before the offer deadline is here, does the Ginn thing happen?? Still holding on to my Brandon Marshall to Miami dream guys hahahah regardless the Marshall thing will be resolved by Thursday, as far as offer sheets....expect something to happen, maybe not from Miami...
The Steelers were going to cut Holmes. The Jets offered them a 5th round pick so they took it. We can't compare Holmes and Ginn's value because while they may be completely different players, their situations (contract, off the field issues) are also very different.
I think that depends on if Denver values Ginn. If they don't, I'm not sure how he really sweetens the deal for them. Also, I think Eddie Royal is returning kicks for them and doing a pretty good job IINM.
When the ball bounces off your hands and into the hands of the other team, you are a LIABILTY. Who cares if he can stretch the field??? Who cares about his skill set. When you drop the ball on 3rd down you are a LIABILITY!!! Ted Ginn is a detriment to the team. I'd trade him for a 7th rounder!
very very very giddy.....but Marshall is gone baby at the end of this year...no way he re-ups with Denver....at this point it is sheet or get off the pot with him...much like Holmes you have to get something in return for him...Miami's 2nd is a good pick, upper half, throw Ginn in there (like HK said, hopefully they value him)....man getting Marshall keeping that 1st, get Thomas or Graham or Williams, you are killing 2 needs with only giving up ONE pick...effing DO IT!!!!!!!!
I think we have to quell our enthusiasm a bit here. All of these little reports about guys being on the block..... remember, EVERYBODY is on the block with this team. The Dolphins are looking to deal Ginn, Brown, whoever. It's not just one guy. They may be making calls about those two, but in reality they're simply casting their nets. Doesn't necessarily mean they don't like a guy or are about to cut them.
If we can find a 7th rounder who returns kicks as well as Ginn, and kills the Jets like Ginn, I'll be all for it.
I find it funny that most people think Ginn's a bum and want him off the team but then start throwing around 3rd/4th round picks. You guys are hilarious! By the way if this team picks up Bryant and drops one of those 3 6th's on a returner.....what do you think happens to Ginn's trade value then? Hmmmmm.
I agree Muck unfortunately.....I am sick of the conservative sheet...conservative draft, no trades, conservative interviews, conservative playcalling.....conservative, conservative, conservative....the only thing conservative I like are politicians...5 words for ya.... What would the Jets do??
Probably would never happen, but man, that just gave me a sick thought. Imagine that happens, and then we trade down on our 1st and get back that 2nd round pick, seeing as there really isn't much value at 12 for us if we're not going Dez... Assuming they hit on players, that would be pretty sweet.
I think it would have to be some sort of package deal, as I dont see us getting an even value draft pick.
Who here thinks Ginn would do well in Chicago, under Martz and receiving from Cutler? They need some WR help bad, but I also know they don't have many picks.
good luck getting anyone to bite on that. Think about it, would you want your team to trade a 4th for ted ginn?
"your gonna be thrilled every time you watch him as a punt returner".......the genius of Cam Cameron ugh!!! a 9th pick punt returner... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_Nx0BiO6Zc"]YouTube- Dolphin Fans Love Ginn Jr.[/ame]
There's five months between now and the beginning of the season. In those five months, a team might not draft the WR they targeted. WRs around the league could have season-ending injuries. Instead they traded him immediately. I thought the Steelers were awfully hasty.
