Today I had a conversation with a friend about our very own Ted Ginn and Desean Jackson. He said that Jackson was faster which I dont recall him running a 4.32 on a BAD foot and running an unofficial 4.06 forty. Also, my friend said that Desean Jackson was a better route runner and had better hands than Teddy. In the end, he said that Jackson was going to be better lol without any support behind his theory.

    What are your thoughts?

I happen to really like Ted Ginn... Even before I adopted him.. People always say Ginn is fast but doesnt run good routes and has average hands but the tape doesnt lie.. Not only did he catch everything thrown to him but he always got seperation and ran nice strong routes even when the play wasnt going to him. As for Jackson, time will tell. Same with Ginn because he is young but I love what I saw out of him last year and am real glad we have him on the fins.

NFL Draft Dog rates his speed in the 40 at 4.38, fast but wasn't Ginn a 4.22? NFL Draft Scout gives him a lowest 40 at 4.27, and Ginn a 4.30 so they have Jackson faster. I may be wrong but I could swear I read Ginn had a 4.22 at some point.

Jackson had injury problems last year so his production is not fair to judge, except with injury problems he did catch 65 passes, pretty good for a shortened season. Not sure I know enough to make a judgment. Seems a pointless argument though.

Sounds like your friend is either a Ginn hater or a Jackson lover......will he be better than Ginn?? Who knows, but sounds like he's talking out of his A--.

That's what I told him and he rambled on lol. Ginn has good hands and route running as he displayed last year in catching 34 of 36 passes thrown his way. I believe the two incompletion's were bad throws. I said that Ginn would end up being better.

I believe Ginn ran a 4.38 forty while he had planter fascitis (sp?), I believe thats what the injury he had. I know as a Freshmen at OSU, he ran a 4.06 forty but then again that was four years ago.

Desean Jackson ran a 4.35 forty at the combine.

I dont know why people talk trash about Ted Ginn he is fast and can cathch the ball and he must run good routes because how else could he get open to catch the ball

i actually disliked ginn in college i thought he was a flashy over hyped player and when i heard his name called in the draft by the fins i was mad

and i was wrong after watching him play i think he is the guy we have been looking for to spark the offense(with ronnie of course) he catches everything, runs nice routes and has game breaking speed i cant wait to see what beck and ginn can do with a revamped oline and with ronnie on the field

Please DeSean came to Cal weighing 167 and left Cal weighing 167. Its quite obvious the guy doesn't lift. Ted Ginn will be the better WR in the NFL.

I've watched a bit of Desean this year, since I'm on the westcoast and they play a lot of Cal games in my area. He's a pretty slick kid, he has some moves. But it no way in my opinion is he as fast as Ginn. I'm talking no combine, no stopwatch, just watching games and clips. He's probably more shifty than Ginn a la Hester or Lorezno Booker. But breakaway speed, from the anectdotal by chance clips I've seen (just saw a section about him two days ago on NFLN) he doesn't have jaw dropping speed we've seen Ginn display.

He ran in the 4.3's at the combine. Remember, Ginn ran in the 4.3's with the bad foot AND storm conditions. Don't you all remember the field conditions, I remember talk of wind, storm, wet turf etc. And he still ran in the 4.3's. Ginn even without an official 40 time is one of the fasted in the NFL period.

Ive said it before, Ginn's speed goes way beyond the 40...yea, maybe there are a handfull of guys who can run a better 40.

But I will guarentee you there is not a man in the NFL who would be within a few yards of Ginn in the 100..

Ginn has great speed from 0-30.....but after that he has another gear that nobody else has, and thats what makes him so special.

Yah, the 40 is the 40. Ted Ginn's max speed is reached beyond that.

They may be somewhat equal for the 40, but TG is faster afterwards, he can just flat out fly.

As for his hands, I couldn't care less if Jackson's hands are better because Ginn's hands are superb anyway.

To give everyone an idea of how fast Ginn is in the 100m, he was record having 10.02, the world record is 9.77 sec and that's with Ted Ginn focusing on football. If he didn't play football and focused just on track, I could see him competing in the Olympic and coming very very close to that world record.

Ive posted this before on "other" forums but to me this story never gets old...

I read an article in the Columbus dispatch about how tightly nit ex-Buckeye's are with current ones.....a large number of players come back to the facility to work out in the offseason.

This is one story. Ginn(a sophmore at the time) and former Buckeye's Nate Clements and Joey Galloway were all competing on the track, It was said when running the 40, Clements won 3 times Ginn 2 and Galloway once....all prety close.

But when the race was switched to the 100....at no point in time was either one within 10 yards of Ted Ginn!!!

The only time I saw Jackson play was when he was tearing up my Vols in the first game of the season. He is very quick and shifty. He kind of reminded me of Devin Hester on punt returns. He might be quicker in a short area or have better acceleration than Ginn.

I'm not sure about just flat out speed. I'd like to see anyone try and run down Ginn in the open field. I just can't see that happening too much.

I'm not sure about his hands either. But I can't remember Ginn dropping a catchable pass all year. I can't even remember one where he used his body instead of his hands. I don't see that being a problem whatsoever with Ginn.

Route running is hard to analyze for me because you rarely get to see it on tv. I'll point to Ginn's first TD though. There were defenders all around him and he seemed to run a pretty precise route, and he did it very quickly. Cleo also hit him with a very good pass. I think Jackson had a few catches against the Vols. Not enough to really give a good analysis though. I do remember thinking after that game that the kid would be good. I began to think of what it would be like to have him and Ginn on the same team.

Until about a week before last years draft I hated Ginn. Thought he was an overrated track sprinter.

Then I watched some tapes, and they just don't lie. I think people have some built in bias that if a guy is fast he must have bad hands, or that he must run poor routes. Neither holds true for Teddy. After a few days heading towards the draft I kept hoping we would pick him instead of Quinn. When we called his name I was more than happy.

i agree i was the same way but i didnt like him until i saw him play in the NFL and i was wrong about him all along he is one of the rare guys with blinding speed and good hands, everything that was thrown at him he caught

i think he could have had a bigger rookie season if we had an oline that could protect and a stabile qb position

Yeah, as my posting history on FH showed, I was all about picking Ginn. All those crazy stories like bad hands, bad routes, not going over the middle, and the crazy talk about his foot injury were enough to drive me to VIP just before the draft last year.

me too, I didn't think we had a snowballs chance in hell of actually picking him.. we had a slow weekend, like now and Simon and I were talking about Ginn and he sent me back into my dvd's to focus on Ted. I too learned all those "bad hands, bad routes, not going over the middle, can't beat the press," etc were junk. The kid had soft hands, got separation and could kill you dead over the middle.
