http://dolphinsindepth.blogspot.com/2008/04/taylor-wants-to-play-in-2008-but-2009_23.html taylor eventually answered saying the “rumor mill” post was not true – what a shock – and he had every intention of playing in 2008. BUT… In those very responses Taylor also told his teammates and friends that he could not and would not guarantee playing in 2009, which is scheduled to be the final year of his current contract.
Rumors swirl despite Dolphins' stance on Taylor The Miami Dolphins say they are not going to trade Jason Taylor. That needs to be reported because it seems the numerous stories saying the Dolphins are talking to teams about trading their signature defensive player have convinced the public Taylor will need fitting for a new team's uniform before this weekend's draft is over. But those reports, along with public opinion and even the logic that says trading Taylor is wise, overlook one significant detail in the whole fascinating scenario: Bill Parcells already said it is not going to happen. Period. http://www.miamiherald.com/616/story/507219.html
Well if they do plan on trading Taylor, saying he can't guarantee playing in 2009 isn't going to help his trade value much...
Tuna - smoona...this blog is just bunk. The media outlets reporting that JT is on the block is just as much bunk...if the right offer is made, Tuna won't hesitate to jump on it, you know it, I know it and so does everyone else...They can say all they want about him not being traded, but if Jax or any other team offers a 2nd and 5th, he'd be on the next flight there...Tuna wants this team to be in his mold, not some other regimes...that's exactly why they'd look at QB in the draft...not whether they think Beck is the answer, but he's someone else's guy...
I wish writers would stop reporting on rumors... thats the main issue here. If reports like these keep coming out that JT wont play another year after this one, we're going to have a heck of a hard time trying to actually pull off a trade if thats what we want to do. I however, have a feeling that if JT was traded to a contender, he would gladly play 2009.
Noooooooottt goood Reports like this are hurting his trade value. I wish he would at least come out and say hes not planning on retiring after this year.
Any team that traded for Taylor would do so knowing the risk he would only play for 2008. There is nothing to this rumor that would cause any trade value to diminish. As far as Parcells saying that Taylor will not be traded is something a front office executive should say. It's already been well established that Taylor if he wants to be traded just needs to ask out of Miami and it's done. Now Taylor has been hedging around the subject, not exactly saying he wants to be traded but hinting at the idea of playing for a losing team his last couple of years is not ideal. Sorry JT but those kind of games are not helpful to anyone. Go to Wayne and the front office and act like a professional. If you want to stay say so, if you want out say it. Only you JT can stop the rumors, only you.
So wait, if he's admitting he won't guarantee to be playing a year from now, doesn't that mean he's hurting his chances to be traded? Some of this part of the year is fun due to all the rumors and smokescreens. Some of it is not so fun because you get tired of hearing the same things over and over and over and over and over.
If you're talking to me, I'd say no. I think JT's perceived restriction is really only on playing for the dolphins. I'm guessing that there's really no motivation for him playing for a rebuilding team, 3 or so years away from being a real playoff team...but a contending team, maybe that's a different story.
