http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/p...nehill-for-miamis-slump?ex_cid=espnapi_public The article goes on to talk about the struggles we've all seen with Wallace, and lists some other data. The article brings to light some things that we've been discussing over the past few weeks (mostly thanks to CK) which is time to throw. I guess it's good to see the data somewhere else for further reinforcement though. I know I thought our average yards per rush wasn't that bad in relation to the rest of the league compared to our attempts per game, but I was very surprised to see that outside of week 1 we're rushing at the 6th best ypc. For the record, I think Tannehill certainly holds his fair share of blame in the last 3 losses, but it does seem like he asked to shoulder a lot more than can be expected given some of the other constraints working against him. And so far, I've been happy with his progress overall, and hope he improves as the year goes on, like he did last year.
Thing is, this sort of offense the style is to use the pass to set up the run. Think THill is on the hook for the fumbles, think the Int's are 90% on poor blocking, from the OL/Te's/Rb's..those guys lack attitude.
Seems as though they're coaching Tannehill to go thru his reads and let the protection take care of itself. That's fine when you have a good OL and a solid run game but we are 0-2 on those requirements thus far. They appear willing to take their lumps, no pun intended, the question is at what point does their patience wear out?
And the thing is...everyone in this league and their grandmother and her cat know our o-line can't block worth a damn at this stage. Thank god we are not playing KC, Denver or SanFran this year, they'd rip us a new one with a 45-3 score or worse. I just shiver when I think if our offense vs some of the better defenses in this league. Enough to make you lose sleep.
I think the whole situation is more directly related to years of bad roster management and it's been compounded in recent weeks by some bad coaching decisions. Ryan Tannehill had a bad game against Buffalo. The silver lining, to me, is that Ryan Tannehill could have played that badly in just about every game this year. He hasn't. That's progress. Damn good progress.
I love Tannehill, he is going to be a top five quarterback down the road, just need to give him a solid offensive line.
He had a bad half. If the defense does not **** the bed, if the offensive line holds it ****ing water, the offensive coordinator calls a few more run plays and the kicker makes a field goal and we are talking about how he overcame the adversity of a horrid start and gutted out a win. The kid is the real deal in my opinion. Anyone who sees him as "bad" or "hopeless" or "not the quarterback of the future" has been sleeping for the last decade. Fix the ****ing offensive line, we will never know truly how good he can be until that happens.
i have been saying it, i do not understand why we abandon the run. the poor running game isnt based on poor running backs, it is just flat out not running the ball.
How on earth do you blame the defense for this? We gave up 16 points, and 10 of them came when they started a drive on our side of the field. Yeah, they could have held them sooner on that final drive to give us more time, but they're not going to be perfect.
I know our defense is primed to give Brady fits. Pats are as depleted as they've been in a while. Only problem is Gronkowski...If only we had a tall, athletic dude to cover him or at least jam him at the line.
I'm expecting the Phins to run the ball more. If we can run the ball and get some long drives going its going to keep Brady and Gronk off the field and keep our D fresh. Problem solved.
Even as bad as the OL has been playing, my biggest disappointment thus far is the DEFENSE! I was expecting a top 5 unit this season, and so far, they haven't looked anywhere close to that. Tanny is the man, just give the kid some HELP! PLEASE! Is Ellerbee that crucial to get the guys lined up? We can't even stop the run this season.
This is impossible. The internet tells me Tannehill is awful and the reason why the Dolphins lost the last 3 games. He must be benched immediately. Silly researchers, don't you know going back and actually breaking down film pales in comparison to snap judgments from people on message boards? BRING IN TEBOW! He couldn't be worse than Tannehill.
A guy with top 5 QB potentential would, imo, be able to still overcome these things and put the team on his back to will them to another win in either the tuight Ravens game or tight Bills game (ESPECIALLY the Bills game, at home). What we have is a nice 8th-12th best QB in the league type of guy, long term, imo. That's enough to make the playoffs most years. FFor us to win a Superbowl with a guy like that, we need a lights-out defense. Which, by the way, I think we are building.
I just don't understand this logic. A guy with the potential to be the best QB in the league (Aaron Rogers/Drew Brees) struggled plenty in their first couple years. Seeing potential means showing what you "can" do, not what you do on every play. I'm not saying Tannehill has the potential to be the top QB in the league or that he will even be a top 5 QB. But to dismiss him as not having the ability to become a very good QB because he is a .500 qb in the middle of his second year is being a bit unfair IMO.
That's just a hypothesis, but Tannehill has yet show anyone he's going to be Top 5. If we don't make the playoffs this year the debate will further falter.
Kansas City...you couldnt script it. Im actually liking their winning streak. That Chiefs V Broncos game should be a great game. Just shows how a team with decent talent and a few tweaks beit HC and QB can make a difference. Says to me that Phins can make inroads.
Top 5? I'd settle for top 10 in a heart beat. O-Line....O-Line!!! Just grinds me every man and his dog knows where we are failing. When the engine room breaks down you are relying on getting by beit keeping it close and having a good Defense. Our Offense isnt going to blow any team away this season. Its FRUSTRATING!
It's just an indictment of their overall lack of football intelligence. It's easy to blame to QB. He is the most visible player on the field. The casual fans all know who the QB is.
Flacco isn't a Top 5 quarterback right now but has definitely shown flashes of a Top 5 quarterback during the playoffs last year. Injuries is playing a huge factor right now. Let me know when Tannehill puts up numbers like Flacco did in the playoffs. And when the last few Super Bowl winners the past decade are names like: Aaron Rodgers Tom Brady Ben Roethlisberber (at that time) Drew Brees Peyton Manning Eli Manning (at that time) It shows in order to win a Super Bowl, you definitely need a quarterback that is Top 5 or somewhere near it.
They coached Rodgers the same way. In 2009, he got sacked 49 times. I think he learned a lot about avoiding sacks, timing in the pocket and overall awareness. Hopefully these lumps lead to major successes later.
