    Well away from here
Just ask one question; who on this staff was on the staff when either Davis or Smith were rookies? Just sayin'

This does show the potential for some exciting TD passes! Perhaps Tannehill & Wallace can be the answer to what was the Patriots' Brady to Moss!

I'm REALLY excited for this upcoming season!

Why does it have to be from a coach? It could be from a player, or even a different writer, or ANYBODY for that matter. A SOURCE can be ANYBODY.

    Rodgers and Campbell?

Or are you saying it was Ireland and since it was Ireland he's overly effusive of his new guys?

  12. Larryfinfan

The point is, there simply weren't too many folks in this regime when those two got here who's opinion really is worth anything...I mean, could Ireland's secretary been the 'source' ?? Seriously, we'll all see soon enough, but that's a bit of a stretch... Even if the 'source' was one of the football people, in shorts and underwear how much can you tell with DBs ??

I'm anxious for things to get under way, like most anyone following football is, and there's always excitement and expectations this time of year with every team every year... It's still nice to hear positive things....

On the flip side, when was the last time you heard anyone say that player X didn't do well in the ROOKIE minicamp ??

Because, in my opinion, both Sean Smith and Vontae Davis were further along than Will Davis is. I can see Jamar being further along than Smith, though.

Vontae Davis and Sean Smith were and still are extremely immature.

It's entirely possible both of these rookies take their jobs much more seriously than Sean Smith or Vontae Davis ever did as rookies. That could be what they mean by more polished.

Maybe these guys are fundamentally more sound, whereas Vontae and Smith were drafted higher because of their size, metrics, and potential athletic ability

Score touchdowns, defend passes, hold onto interceptions, when it counts. Do these things, and I'll be a happy fan. After the recent dry spell, let's just say its hard for me to "get it up" over anything that doesn't happen on Sunday.

I found this interesting. I always found it funny when people (and I've heard this a lot) say Tannehill needs to work on throwing deep and suggest he struggled with it. I thought he did a nice job in this area especially considering Hartline was his fastest WR, and really the only one with any ability to go deep.

I'm excited. I can't help it. But there's this little pessimistic devil on one shoulder saying, "You were excited about Henne and Marshall, remember that?" I flicked him in the dick and he fell off, so it's cool.

I know you know Sean transitioned from receiver in college, I believe Davis has always been a corner, they both play the run the same way.lol, what kind of discrepency are you seeing in the coverage technique?

I fully believe that's it. When we drafted both Davis and Smith my main concern with them was their personality. I thought it was more of a concern with Davis since I didn't see him get better while in college. I didn't see a guy who had showed any tendency to work on his game. It was so bad that his college coaches actually suspended for it. With Smith I saw a tendency for arrogance and to subsequently rest on his laurels. Both have all the talent in the world but they're personalities limited their production.

Wallace has so much speed that he adjusts easily to even poorly thrown passes and creates separation that gives the QB a larger margin for error. In other words, he can make his QB look better. (Not that Ben wasn't good, but I Wallace scored on some of those long TDs on bad passes that Wallace made look accurate).

Because there is a lot of variables outside the QBs control that affect the "drops, spikes, batted passes and throwaways". They took them away from all of the QBs, so it's not like they gave Tannehill a pass on this, they did it for all the QBs.

you called his projection, talented yes, but immature and red flags..I fell for the physical prescense he brought to the table..

Smith we shared the same, I never liked him or his game...briefly at last camp I saw the changes he made on his body and he was better in coverage, but he was all show and no substance..so glad he's gone.

Still would take VD in a heartbeat over smith.

I feel that about 80 percent of swatted passes can be avoided, it's slight manipulation of the arm angle, and a better more confident feel for the game when the plays starts enables Qbs to avoid swatted passes.

Agreed, but I think Tannehill was picked on for this too much following the Texans game. JJ Watts is a phenom and makes a lot of guys look stupid.

Tannehill does need to work on the batted passes and his footwork, but I don't think the batted passes was issue that a lot of people made it into. If he still has a high number of batted passes this season, then I'll worry.
