I'll agree that Lemon had a decent game. However, I do agree with his point that Lemon has shown a level of inconsistency and lack of accuracy throughout his career at EVERY level of play. He's not going to be a decent starter in this league.
c'mon ken...he made horrible, HORRIBLE decisions - over, and over, and OVER. he was indecisive, held onto the ball when he could easily thrown it away, took sacks he didn't need to take, went out of bounds inexplicably when he could have CERTAINLY thrown it away...also missed completely on 7 passes that i counted before i just gave up. and dude, lemon is no rookie anymore - what's he got, 4 years in?! that's crazy for as badly as he played. and no, not just badly for one game, but fundamentally badly for any qb with more than two year's experience, even if it is only on a bench or holding a clipboard.
He has only started 7 games and played in 11.... So you can deduce that he will be a bust in the NFL? HE was behind BREES and that aging veteran (can't remember his name now) before he was traded to the FINS for AJ... It's not like the kid has had opportunities about to prove himself... However, I will agree it was just 1 game and that there is more to be proven...
While I will agree with you on his indecisiveness, that is easily correctable... As far as his years in the league, well let's just say this... There have been many a player that has stepped up once they get the chance... And that is regardless of years in the league... Example... Wes Welker... Look at Randy Moss... All that talent needs is to have some one to exploit it...

Lemon not the long term answer..., Beck isn't looking specatcular either..., but has not a full season yet..., there needs be a QB selected likely in the third or fourth... We need there to QB competition going in to training camp unlike this years hand off to T.Green..., now Lemon and Beck relax throughout camp that is not good...
I think that we should stick with Beck. We need time to actually let our QB grow before we start trying bring other QBs in.
To repeat once again, He has been inconsistent and innacurate AT EVERY LEVEL he's played. No better than low 50 percent passer and even a year in college where he amassed a 48% completion atrosity. He's been on the roster of 3 NFL teams of which he never rose above 3rd string except in Miami where he became a 2nd stringer because of an injury. He was sent to NFL Europe where he wasn't even good enough to stay on the active squad. He was demoted to practice squad in NFL Europe. San Diego traded him for AJ Feeley. You don't trade up and coming prospects that people feel will be a good starter for another weak QB. Miami in lieu of having this "diamond in the rough" on their roster traded draft picks for other QB's in Harrington, Culpepper and Green while also investing a 2nd round pick in John Beck. I can't see a ringing endorsement of Lemon here by any NFL personnel people that have seen and worked with him. He's proven himself a decent back up and that all signs point to little if any potential beyond that.... proven it.
I think the Parcells hiring might open the door to us taking Glenn Dorsey, BP loves big boys and I think he'll like him alot.

I think almost everyone on this board would agree we should trade down if we can get reasonable value. Fact remains it rarely happens and if it does it it usually with another team in the top 5. Otherwise the other teams must give up almost their whole draft or the top end of multiple drafts. So the likely scenario is that we will have to pick someone. It's near impossible to choose one guy now as there is a lot of evaluating to be had before next April. As of right now I like McFadden, as the BPA, or a QB. At QB, Personally I prefer Brohm as I like his accuracy and he also has a strong arm. His problem has been durability which can't be ignored. Ryan is a great physical QB, but his turnover problem has me concerned about his football acumen. Woodson strikes me as a little slow with his feet and delivery but has a NFL arm. As for Dorsey, he just does not fit our current scheme. Injury is also a concern with him. However, it's hard to ignore what most NFL scouts say is the best Defensive player in the draft. Unfortunately from the 4 or 5 games I saw with him this year he was far from dominant. In the Arkansas game, I felt he was pushed around pretty good which obviously helped lead McFadden to a huge game. I assume the injuries had a lot to do with that. Hopefully he can show up healthy in the bowl game and show how dominant he can be against good competition. If he gets pushed around, you may seem him drop a 5 to 10 spots in the draft. As of right now, I'm leaning toward QB which shows the most over the next 4 months. It's just too important a position to ignore on a team that is far from set a the position.
Dont you guys realize what a risk it is to take a QB at #1? especially on a team that almost every position needs help. I have said it before but what happens if you take Ryan and Beck beats him out in training camp? Then that draft pick will go down as one of the worst of all time. Is Ryan a sure upgrade over Beck? Who knows! Beck has played 3 games on a team that has no business trying to develop a rookie QB right now. That is the #1 reason they wont take a QB in the first round. Beck will be given next year to prove himself, hopefully with some protection and talent around him. If he doesnt show promise next year then they will look elsewhere for a QB, but you have to give the guy a chance other than 3 games.
For the most part I might agree with you but Bill also likes playing a 3-4 and a great noise tackle is a great place start when you want to play that defense, they need to take a lot of space and cover more ground. Dorsey is the prototype player you want and what Parcells will want to start building a great defense. Now with that said, what could Dallas give us to want to part away with this? And I think we should listen to all offers, I just want to make sure people understand what kind of player we have here before we make any rash decisions.
I would like to see us draft another QB somewhere in a later round. I have to admit I do like Joe Flacco from Del. He is 6'6" 230 pounds and can throw the ball a freaking mile. I think he could throw John Beck 60 yards, lol. I like the old Shula rule of drafting a QB somewhere, every year, you never know when you might come up on another Tom Brady.
Dorsey is a prototype player for the 4-3 not the 3-4. He would fit the DT position however currently at around 295lbs he is way to small to play a true NT position. Now Chris Long would be the prototype DE for a 3-4 but I'm not sure he is a number 1 guy. If we were able to trade down to 4 or 5 he would be ideal.
Except you don't know what type of defense we play now. With the Parcells hire it's all up in the air now. No guarentee Capers etc are here next year. The new choices for coaches could dictate otherwise. Although I would assume Parcells would try to make sure the team goes the 3-4 route and get a GM that would follow that philosophy and hire coaches from the 3-4 tree. He could fill the 3-4 end and then move inside in 4-3 looks. I'd like Chris Long myself to. He's everything Matt Roth should have been and more. I'd like to get him and then snag Frank Okam in the 2nd (I'd be ecstatic if he slipped to the latter of the 2nd round picks but that's doubtful so it would have to go with the first pick). Those 2 picks and the line is solidified and younger. Although that would leave WR picks for FA and I'm not sure if we could get a solid TE and CB with the latter 2nd/3rd round picks.
Nice analysis. I agree with just about everything. Gholston would probablyy be a better pick than Chris Long for the very reasons you mentioned. Long will be a very good DE but I'm not sure if he's ever going to be great. Gholston might. I'm definitely on the Ryan pick for the very reasons you mentoned And you are spot on with Offensive Tackle being unbelievably deep this year. Long, Clady, Otah, Loadholt, Oher, Baker, Cherilus, Williams. Whoever we get will be an upgrade at Right Tackle Receiver should be addressed in free agency IMO. That's probably the only place we disagree somewhat
Ryan is definitely an upgrade over Beck. Not even close. The only question is whether its more important to upgrade QB or elsewhere with the first pick
i dont think we will take long, we already have roth for those that are down on roth because of this year, just remember his head coach is basically a glorified offensive coordinator. when saban was running the team, roth looked like a monster. i would place the blame on cameron primarily for roth's performance, and i think roth is still a player who could eventually reach pro-bowl caliber.
from what i hear, parcells thinks this team can turnaround quickly. its not going to be a 4-5 year rebuilding process. which leads me to believe that we will nto be drafting a qb, and will be acquiring a veteran qb, while we let beck sit
I dont think Parcells woul;d draft Dorsey. He likes pressure from the edge. With Parcells on board if we go defense I can almost guarantee that it will be Long or Gholston. He also likes big Offensive Tackles and I can see him going that way. Personally, that is the one position I am absolutely terrified of drating with the first when you consider the busts that have occured in the past - Mandarich, Gallery, etc. There will be a killer tackle available in the 2nd and I really hope we wait until the 2nd to address that position
I agree that Roth's performance this year shouldnt be seen as doom and gloom though not for the reason you specified. It came out about a month ago that he has been battling a quadriceps or hamstring injury since preseason. That would explain the lack of burst more than Cameron
im sure they are both factors. i think having a headcoach that can teach your position really helps a ton. you saw saban take JT to another level, and it looked like he was really helping roth also. and its not really so much a knock on cameron, but he is an offensive guy. he's going to work the QBs, RBs, and WRs a lot. capers is an x's and o's kinda guy, i dont think he ever really worked with players much on a teaching level. i really attribute our defensive struggles this year to losing saban. he is very underrated as a defensive mind.
The shoring-up of the defense in the latter half of the season is reported due to Cameron becoming involved with that side of the ball. We certainly know that Cameron is directly responsible for Jason Allen shaping up. In no way is Saban underrated as a defensive guru. His ability on that side of the ball is well-known and well-respected. Now if only he didn't have the moral compass of a Berber...
Dominizzo posted BP's drafted players, seems to like "Athletes" early, like DE's and CB's, and then searching for big uglies later. IE draft the speed positions and then develop the big guys from the scrap heap/island of misfit toys.
i also believe that this is a year in which we very well could upgrade the receiver ranks in free agency without overspending. just to clarify a point i noticed while re-reading that; i certainly don't believe that a 1st and 2nd would be sufficient compensation for the #1. just making the observation that with another 1st and 2nd, we could do wonders, even if the other part of the deal came in next year's draft. thought i'd get to it before someone else did.
