First round: UF guard/center Mike Pouncey. “Easily the draft’s top interior lineman,” Mel Kiper said. Kiper and Mike Mayock like him better at guard. But ESPN’s Jon Gruden said Pouncey should play center, despite some past struggles with shotgun snaps.

… FSU quarterback Christian Ponder. Many now expect him to go in the first round. The pluses: intelligence, toughness, leadership, can get rid of the ball quickly and extend plays with his feet. “He’s got enough arm strength, more than enough mobility, but I think he’s a good backup at most, because I don’t see the vision,” the scout said. “He reminds me of J.P. Losman, who would stare down a receiver and wouldn’t see the linebacker waiting to make a play.”

    • Likely second: UM receiver Leonard Hankerson. “Had to prove he was more than a possession guy, and he did,” Kiper said. “Can be a good complementary No. 2 receiver.” … UM tackle Orlando Franklin. “Didn’t have a great year but has that aggressive quality you want,” Kiper said. Might move back to guard.

… FSU center/guard Rodney Hudson “is productive but undersized and very disappointing at Pro Day and the Combine,” the scout said. …

FAU’s Rob Housler. Fastest tight end at the Combine; Kiper said he’s the draft’s best downfield-receiving tight end after the second round.

Intrigued by skilled pass-catching tight ends with basketball backgrounds, the Dolphins summoned Southern California’s Jordan Cameron and Portland State’s Julius Thomas to team headquarters.
