After today, with the memorial and a song I heard on the radio, I pondered, what music or song have effected my life in one form or another. If everyone is honest, we should see some interesting stuff posted. For me it would have to be: TAPS (Once you hear it at a service, you never hear it the same) Living on the edge Areo Smith (just love the message in the song Harvester of Sorrow (just something about it) Little drummer boy (This one has been with me since childhood, just love it) we didn't start the fire Billy Joel (Has the truth throughout the song) well, there you go
Well since I heard them both sung in Baghdad last summer by Toby Keith surrounded by nothing but US Military (not sure there was a dry eye in the joint) American Soldier Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue Fade to Black by Metallica in another one. Just something about it Proud To Be An American- Need I say more
1) The only thing that looks good on me is you - Bryan Adams (First album I bought and first obsession with an artist in my life) 2) Vasos Vacios - Los Fabulosos Cadillacs (It was the soundtrack for my first love) 3)Famous blue raincoat - Leonard Cohen (kinda my image of NYC when I first got here) 4)Any and all Gogol Bordello and Mano Negra - Just brought life back to me
Good thread! Keep on rockin in the free world - Neil Young/Pearl Jam - This song reminds me that not everyone has such a beautiful life as I am lucky to have. I have the ability to make my own decisions, to make a living, to get an education, and throughout the world many people dont have that and have never known such a thing exists. In many cases they never will. "That's one more kid that will never go to school, never get to fall in love, never get to be cool...." Killing in the Name of - Rage Against the Machine - I have always been anti establishment, anti-authority, anti everything. This song just inspires me further because the anti hate message being sent in the song, the intimidation of different people that has gone on throughout this countries existence, serves as a remind to always fight for what you believe in. Any Bob Marley song - The impact of his music on many is unquestioned. The topics varied from humble beginnings, to political, to weed, to love. Throughout it all, the message of peace and love for everyone was conveyed and preached. How can you not be impacted by that? Un-break my heart - Toni Braxton - Yeah, whatever. Its a beautiful song. Makes me want to
Okay my turn. Just a few. 1. Bob Seger ~ Like a Rock - Chevy commercials aside, when you guys in your 20's get into your 40's, it'll mean something to you too. 2. Billy Joel ~ Goonight Saigon - Made me appreciate our armed forces even more than I already did. Live versions make the hair on my arms stand up. 3. Billy Joel ~ New York State of Mind - moved out of NY once...every time I heard this song I was deprerssed beyond all belief. Moved back real quick. 4. Triumph ~ Magic Power - Don't know why, it just gets to me. 5. Queensryche ~ Take Hold of the Flame - Whenever I feel like quitting, smacks me back.
Wow, kind of a cool idea for a thread topic here. I often find that there is a particular song or album that defines a particular time period in my life. I don't know if the song itself is life changing, but I do know there's been a few songs that I've listened to that have been profound, like the soundtrack to your life. Here's a couple: Bruce Springsteen: Born in the USA As a kid, I thought it was a great record, and it was really my first rock record. As an adult I was able to listen to it and take the meaning behind it away. Great song, great album, and I don't even like Springsteen all that much. Nirvana: Smells Like Teen Spirit Like millions of others I'm sure, this song opened the flood gates to new music for me in the 1990s. It's overplayed now, but when that song came out it was ridiculously good. Johnny Cash: Hurt This song is more representative of a very personal time in my life, where the title was very appropriate. One of those rare cover songs that exceeds the original. I'm a big Cash fan anyway, but this song was like his curtain call - his last great song.
Yesterday is just an amazing song it makes me think everytime things change even if they change for good. It even made me sad when I had to leave school...and I hated school. And I love Bohemian Rhapsody. It has as many ups and downs as live, as a football game and so on. Free Falling, since it was played in this years Superbowl. Poetic Justice; it can't get any better! Everytime I will hear this thing from now on I will
Johnny Cash Emoire of dirt is a good one to, atleast for us poor folks with not much to offer, but our love and ourselfs.
Forever Young by Rod Stewart. It was always my son and my song, when he left to join the Navy. It says it all about how I feel about my child. He & I have always been the best of friends. Proud To Be An American. What can you say about this one, it's just great. I also agree on Taps. It's the most beautiful, haunting sound and very heart-wrenching. Mercy Me's I Can Only Imagine. Says it all about heaven and how I feel. Just about anything by Journey makes me weep. Not cry--weep. A bunch of Kris Kristofferson songs. He writes poetry, not just music, that feels like he's talking about your life experiences.
Somone Else - Queensryche My favorite band. This is a song that reminds me that you can grow and change and become a better person.
I would have to add The Magnificent Seven by The clash... just because if I had to pick a Clash song (to me they are the best band ever to grace the earth) it would have to be The Maginificent Seven
my lifelong friend, who i mourn in my signature, had more pain in his life than anyone should have to bare. right after we entered 9th grade, his mother was raped and murdered. someone who broke into their house while they had gone out, and hid in a closet. he was a serial rapist and had stalked her for a few weeks before acting. my friend and his younger brother slept were in the house while it all took place. Scott's room was directly across the hall. Scott found his mom's body in her bed the next morning. she was killed with a knife, and never made a sound. because her killer admitted that he told her that he would kill her sons if she did. can you imagine what he went through? i couldn't completely comprehend the horror of it at 14 when it happened, and i cannot now at 39. 3 years ago his wife of 12 years died suddenly. she had lupus, but by all indications was doing well and was healthy at the time. she felt sick one evening and two days later was dead. he remarried, but it was a mistake and didn't last long. they divorced. and finally, this past December, he was accused of a crime he could not have committed, and his arrest was all over the news on Christmas Day. two days later he took his own life. his family had the song "Home" (by Daughtry) played at his funeral service. i had no idea who he was, or what Daughtry sung before that funeral. not a big Idol fan. but no song has ever spoken to me so clearly in my entire life. i listen to it every day. and i get emotional every time i hear it.
Thanks for sharing, it means alot to get on here and poor out your personal life to us, who are no more then strangers, I feel honored that you would share this with me. I thank you. God bless you and your friend, and I can only wish that he, his wife and his mother are togather in a much better place.
Wow bro, that is very very sad to hear. I dont really know what to say because that is really depressing to read. Hes in a better place now. RIP Scott. *****
Thats horrible bro. I wouldnt even want to read about stuff like that let alone live it. Im sorry for your loss bro
thanks, as you can probably tell, i am still dealing with this day to day. the thought that he is with them, and there is no more pain keeps me going some days.

I can only second what USArmyFinFan has said. God bless you, your friend and his family. Thank you for sharing.
Now as to songs that touch my soul: Taps and LeAnn Rimes singing The National Anthem. That lady can really belt it out.
