I'll definitely check it out too. I'd still play WoW if it didn't cost money every month and had some friends that still played it.
Not sure if I'll play it. Was a huge Diablo fan and spent countless hours on that game and it seemed like one WOW came out Battle net just forgot about D2, so I was a little put off by it. That and if it is D3 I would hate to get sucked in again
D3 kinda came out in the form of Guild Wars, IMO. The game reminds me of Diablo in so many ways, but it's so much larger in scope.
Is this based on the fact that they are really fun or based on the fact that their games are really polished?
I can see that, but IMO GW was a heck of a lot harder for someone to go solo, and to get to some of the better areas. But I really don't think the game was designed for some to do solo most of the time.
lol you sound like a heroin junkie! I know how you feel though, I used to play L2 (basically WoW) day and night for a year and a half. You know there is a problem when you are dreaming (literally, in my sleep) of zerging mofos in a pvp!
I played l2 very addictive and swg..... I also played bf, bf vietnam and like the billion mods that came out for those first two. I had planned on getting the last one but figured it had died out already. Perhaps I should rethink that.........
You ain't kidding. I got chewed up and spit out till I found a decent guild that had actual adults in it.
Okay well after doing some my own research it seems its to hype up The new expansion for WOW. http://www.worldofwar.net/n/414868/blizzard-image-solved
Blizzard games are neither fun nor polished. The company is a gigantic joke being played on the industry; whenever they release a game in a certain genre, there's always a better game available, but the Blizzard game gets all the attention. Total Annihilation was better than StarCraft. Likewise, Supreme Commander will assuredly be better than StarCraft 1.5. Fallout is better than Diablo. Final Fantasy XI is better than World of Warcraft, but every MMO sucks so it's not really worth caring about. Blizzard will never be forgiven for Primal Rage.
Maybe it is because you are 23, however to not call Blizzard games polished, you have no idea what you are talking about. They release some of the most polished games in the industry. The computers that can run StarCraft during its time was absolutly amazing. I was totally surprised by the fact that it ran well on minimal specs. That is something that isn't usually seen. Final Fantasy XI is not better than WoW. Not even close. It is more satifying because it takes 5 hours to feel like you did something in FFXI and that just felt so good. Then there were the times when I would play for 8 hours straight and actually be down a level. That felt excellent. Blizzard gets the attention because they earned it.
Yeah... I also have disagree with you on all counts Desides. To each his own, but Starcraft is still played my THOUSANDS worldwide to this day. Diablo2 still SELLS for $40. Blizzard makes some of the best games around.... I won't even touch that FF vs WoW comment
sorry but SC and Diablo are 2 of my favorite franchises. primal rage. I loved that game on the Genesis.
Or... maybe I do, and thinking that Blizzard games aren't deserving of their attention is a result of forming my own opinions of them. Nice jab at my age, though. I guess playing games since age 3 means nothing because you've got 30 years on me. I really don't care how many people play Blizzard games. Bandwagons are not indicative of quality; if they were, movie licensed games would consistently be the best games released every year. I wonder how many of you guys have even played Total Annihilation or Fallout.
I played fallout and I am playing Fallout 2 right now in preparation for the release of 3...but thats an apples oranges comparison...fallout is a unique game and so WAS Diablo but Diablo spawned 100s of clones that have barely ever came close to the origionals..no one copied Fallout because it had a niche market.
Not a jab at your age. You probably don't remember when half the battle of computer games was getting them to work on your PC, especially if you had 'minimal specs'. Like or dislike Blizzard, calling them unpolished is basically off based. No one who knew things about video games and history of video games would call Blizzard games unpolished. I love Fallout. That is a great game and it gets a lot of attention as well.
Fallout was a copy of Dark Sun. Those Dark Sun guys did an amazing job of making their games. In fact they were a huge inspiration for the Baldur's Gate series as well.
I'm a HUGE Fallout fan. Back when FH was worth a crap I personally made several threads on the subject. But Fallout and Diablo are two completely different games. And bandwagon games don't stick around strong for 10 years.. Sorry.
This has nothing to do with the quality of Blizzard games, or even the concept of polish, but yes, I participated in the stone age of PC gaming the same way you did. Calling them unpolished is accurate. Polish is the effort put in towards the core gaming concepts and their presentation to the gamer. Blizzard doesn't put much effort in their core concepts, and they forego balance in favor of flash. (Zerg rushes, anyone?) They're very good at marketing and creating hype without expending much effort, but the attention they get relative to the quality of their games is ridiculous. There are a hell of a lot more companies and games deserving of some of that attention Blizzard gets when they register a new domain and put up a "coming in six months" placeholder page. Fallout, like System Shock 2, gets a lot of online nostalgia but little real attention. Quick, name the last game influenced by, spawned from, or reminiscent of Fallout. You can't; no one bothered. At least System Shock 2 lives on spiritually in everything from Doom 3 to Bioshock. I don't think Fallout 3 will do very well financially. They do when people find ways to cash in on the bandwagon.
Wow, what are you talking about? Blizzard is known for holding back launches to get more polish on a game. They are known for balancing and have done a good job. The fact that they were able to keep Starcraft II on the hush hush for so long is mind blowing. I can't name a game that spawned from Fallout. I can name a game that Fallout spawned from and went on to spawn a few other games. Which I did mention.
The Sims is two games with countless sequels. Starcraft is the same game and expansion that came out in the 90s. At this point, Blizzard might be losing money on it. It doesn't sell anymore and Battle.net is a FREE online matchmaking/stat tracking system. They are constantly upgrading it and do regular maintenance.
No, Valve is known for that. Blizzard is known simply for excessively long delays coinciding with the release of major games in the genre. Anyone remember how StarCraft was delayed for 9 months after Total Annihilation came out? How about StarCraft: Ghost? StarCraft 1.5 had been known about for months prior to its official announcement. For a long time it was one of the worst-kept secrets in the industry. Contrast that to how Nintendo kept the Wiimote a secret.
For being the worst kept secret, Joystiq, Destructoid, GameTrailers, Kotaku, and IGN had nothing about it on them. (sometimes I feel I should work more). No, Blizzard is known for that as well.
