Years of hard work LOL, Id have definitely remembered that and it definitely wouldnt have taken place with Paul.
Same as last year, Spotrac for the bulk, Roto as a checker. But there will be changes there too. So far it appears that we will not be doing restructures this year though. We will allow "guessed at" contracts to be replaced by actual data if it turns up though.
Yeah I found the restructures silly, if we freezed other parts of the league then the contracts should as well.
froze, damn Canadians. But this way it avoids things going nuts while allowing erroneous contracts to be fixed.
I might be the only one but I thought the restructures were great, not only because they worked out for me but because its really part of being a GM. You get to do stuff like that to free up more cap. If your GM does that it makes the process of selecting a team a little different. You wont just look for cap space and picks you will look for a smart GM a well.
Re: So........ Not in favor. YOU ARE supposed to be the "smart GM" not the numbnuts you take over for. Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2
You miss the point. We cant renegotiate contracts in this league because we dont make it that involved. But if I think the Steelers GM in real life, for example, has some contracts that may get renegotiated it can make taking a team with some ugly cap numbers a little more appealing (if not risky) in that you may get to keep a player you may like just not at the number they currently are valued at cap wise without having to go through the whole process of releasing and trying to resign the player. For example, If I had known James Harrison was going to get renegotiated (which he did about a week after I dealt him) I might not have dealt him. But I did benefit from the Steelers renegotiating Ben and Ike Taylors contracts which created about 11M in cap space. While YOU are supposed to be the smart one, it may make some people look at the cap figures differently. Things may or may not work out the way you want/think but IMO its a good approach.
While I don't disagree Boik, what we came to was the realization that the vast amount of money freed up rapidly sped things up at a rate we didn't like and felt was detrimental to the league. Not to mention the timing issues involved with when they happen and who they happen to. Amusingly, we looked at Rapedherburger's contract as a definitive factor to omit renegotiations, considering his salary went from 17MM to less than 1, which no player of his value and stature should be paid so little (and in reality, wasn't). I agree with your points and your methods and theories, but the adverse effects were and are too great and detrimental to the league. There's also something that's been done to help manage those bloated salaries from the start. You know the ones, like Dumervil has had.
Here's an idea for restructures. Why not give each GM the ability to restructure one contract only? That will help with some of those Dumervil type contracts.
Re: So........ We're not just using base salaries this year. It'll all be rolled into one number for you guys, we just get the complicated work. So the cap will be much higher this year but so will the overall salaries. Basically this evens out the Dumervil problems where his high salary is put into the base cap ONLY rather than bonuses. That's about as simple as I can make it. If you have any other ideas for improvement, feel free to shoot em out. I will definitely hear ya out.
