    Well now,

I remember the hey-day of Stormin Normin Ellenburger. Coaching up Michael Cooper and Marvin "Automatic" Johnson...not that many do, but that was one hell of a team, and I remember it.
Then came along Luc Longley, the Austrailian Wonder. He teamed with Rob "Mount" Loeffel to become a pretty solid team....but that has been awhile ago.

I also remember just a few years ago, Steve Alford was shamed out of Iowa to settle for lowly New Mexico. I remember being giddy as a teenager who's dad let him drive his Corvette for the first time, but I remember much scorn and chants of Alfraud, Alfraud, Alfraud....

Well, happy I was correct. The Lobos are back where they belong, at the top of a VERY good Mountain West Conference.

Now, I realize, this isnt as good a conference as some of those back East..and even 1 in the Mid-West...but I feel very confident saying it is easily the Best in the West this year.

So, in recognition of beating (And sweeping) the VERY HATED BYU COUGAHS last night, going, I attribute this little article:

I just hope the very esteemed "REDPITSEA" has a chance to come in and see this

AND, remember, this is a very young team. Only one Senior and several under-classmen. This is a team that started the Mountain West at 0-2 only to end up 13-2, something nobody in the MWC has ever done (Rattled off 13 consec wins in coference), and 27-3 overall. Along that road, they have indeed beaten some very good teams, and has an RPI of 10.

Thank you very much Mr Alford. Glad you were able to prove your critics wrong.

I can understand a couple of teams being down, and the Screw of A lost Lutie, and of course the bad stuff going on at USC, but that entire conference is very very mediocre all at once.
Cal is NOT a very good team, but will represent almost by default.
Meanwhile, the smaller conferences are catching up. Even the WAC is better across the board than the Pac 10 this year.

I remember Ellenberger being fired for some questionable things long ago and he was kind of blackballed as a coach after that. I have seen New Mexico playing up here at Air Force and I have always like Alford. They have that Pit in Albuquerque where it is so loud and tough for visiting teams. My ASU Sun Devils lost Harden and Pendergraph, but I think if any team is deserving in the PAC-10 it's them....they played crappy against Cal but they should make the tourney...I think they are 20-9? last I checked. It's time for the U of A Mildcats to sit at home and not get a tourney invite every year like it is their birthright. Go Sun Devils.

I actually liked Alford at Iowa... while most hated him, he won games... something we haven't been doing lately. :pity:

At least Northern Iowa is good, helps hide the shame a little...
