Howard is going to win by default. God only knows how he won it last year when his "superman dunk" wasn't even a dunk. He gets a 50 on that lame *** dunk? At least Cook won the 3 point contest. a 50 for that also?
That last one was pretty sweet, but then Nate jumped OVER Howard to dunk and he's only 5'8", impressive.
I would have been far more impressed if he would have actually cleared Howard. I thought that was the whole point anyways.
Had to push off Howards back to elevate further. Man I'm not really impressed with the recent Slam Dunk contests. Too much emphasis on props.
Nate won. Was going for Howard being a Magic fan, but it's cool to see the little guy win a contest like that.
To be honest I think they're running out of ideas to be original. There's only so many ways to slam dunk a basketball I guess.
Next year should be interesting. Lebron - born for this Nate - going for 3rd victory Dwight - revenge against lex luthor!
Dwight should have followed his "bounce off the side" dunk by doing the same dunk on the 12 foot rim. That would have been the best dunk of alltime.
Yep, I live a few blocks from Mainland High in Daytona Beach where he played high school b'ball. They named the gym 'Vince Carter Gymnasium' and he donated 3 million $ to the school for it.
Cool, we used to call it the D.umb B.londes C.ountry C.lub back in the day. (excuse the temporary thread hijacking) I guess Vince is done with the dunk contests, he hasn't done it for years. LeBron will be fun to watch though for next year.
I think when VC blew out his knee, it was over for him or seemed to be. He doesn't look the same nowadays, settling for too many threes. I'm not counting on LeBron until I see him officially declare for it, lol.
He has a whole country that hates him up here. I'm not a fan of the Raptors but how he left and quit on the team while still playing was a disgrace and worse than what most athletes do to get vilified
They rebuilt the whole school from scratch, it's huge for a town that size. Carter donated the proceeds for pretty much the entire gym project.
Horse was shown in the afternoon I missed it but Durant won. Rook vs Soph was on yesterday. Sophs won.
Nate didnt actually push off Dwights back. He stuck his hand out to steady himself but if you watch the replay at no point does his wrist move to indicate a push off. Thats why that dunk is just frankly ridiculous. Nate is an amazing showboat and really knows how to play to a crowd. Unfortunately when he does it during games he comes across as a bit of a jerk but hes fun to watch.
Dwight's a great sport for agreeing to be a prop. Dwight has brought the dunk contest back. LeBron is getting into it next year. That wouldn't have happened without Dwight pushing the limits, being the fun loving competitor that he is. The 12 foot rim dunk was one to remember for a long time. The dunk itself wasn't all that flashy, but the fact that he did it with such ease, it was great. Then he punched everyone in the stomach when he laid down that baseline off the side of the board dunk. That was so nasty, and he landed it on his first try. So sick. He made a mistake with dunk choice at the end, and it cost him. But if he didn't cross the line, he wins. I give Nate mad props for being able to dunk over Howard like that. The dude is the Steve Smith of basketball. Short dudes just shouldn't be able to do the things that those guys are doing.
Dwight should ave done the foul line dunk on the 12 foot hoop. That would have won it for him. So many people have done the foul line dunk, none as well as Dr J and MJ I may add, that its old and when a 6'11" guy does it its just not that impressive because of his wingspan. The 12 foot hoop and the side of the backboard dunk were sweet no question.
It's still pretty impressive when you consider I'm in good shape and probably couldn't clear his knees
Oh I know. He should have just tried to jump over someone tall that he could have actually cleared. Would have been more impressive IMO...
Does anyone have a vid of Dwights dunk that he did off the side of the backboard? They are only showing 3 of his dunks on ESPN, not that one.
lol im not gonna hate on a 5'8" dude that can pretty much clear a 6'11" dude even if he hits his shoulder a little bit.. dont hate on nate too much. that dunk was nasty.. and lebron said he can dunk on a 13' foot rim.. cant wait for next year
Easily the worst dunk contest in the history of the event. What happened to the days where people, myself included, used to actually look forward to this thing? Hasn't been exciting since Vince Carter and J-Rich's exits. I mean, the past few years were decent, but not competitive at all. Lack of originality, although I do credit Dwight for trying to spice it up, but this contest is NOT about props. If LeBron keeps his word and competes next year, it WILL be something to watch. Hopefully his entrance influences a few others to join, ala Vince and J-Rich.
I liked it. Why was it bad. Dwight Howard and Nate Robinson going at it till the very end. Nate Robinson dressed in all green and Dwight Howard changed in the phone booth. I though Rudy go cheated but still a good dunch contest no less.
