That's a pretty safe pick seeing as how he was obviously drafted to eventually do just that. What a stretch SI
Banks premise in Henne starting is that Parcells will buck his norm...??? I don't think so and obviously Thompson figured him out as not knowing much about Parcells.... Henne is the pick of the current regime vs Beck or McCown but that doesn't mean he'll be the day one starter...it could happen, but it's highly unlikely unless Beck and McClown show nothing at all...
Well if Henne does win the job, I hope for one thing. When November comes around, the only talk we hear about hanging chad, will be from the poll booths.
He is basing purely on what he thinks Parcells will do, regardless of the talent of those players in question. Maybe he should get a job with the National Inquirer.
No doubt. You have to be signed, sealed, and delivered before you even get a shot at the job. I have no doubt that he will sign but until he does, it's a two man race as far as I'm concerned.
I think he's basing that on the fact that Henne started in college as a freshman, played his 4 years and played most of his senior year with a dislocated shoulder. He's also probably taking into account how Beck performed last year when he was thrown into the fire. IMO, I'm starting to think that they only drafted Henne because he had fallen so low. If they really wanted him to be their starting QB this year I think they would have grabbed him at the top of the 2nd round. The interviews with Ireland and the QB coach both mention that there was another player they wanted to take who got picked before their pick, and the QB coach said he had Henne ranked exactly where he was taken. I'm looking forward to seeing both of them in action this preseason... You know how the saying goes.. To the victor belong the spoils.
Don Banks has very little idea what he's talking about, but that will change as soon as the Dolphins start winning games. Until then, we get to read these little superficial 'fluff' stories that will be all but forgotten after four days of training camp. That's when we can expect a different story from Banks... one titled: "John Beck: Where did he come from?"
This is starting to bother the hell out of me. Our coach is Tony Sparano. He will make the decision on who starts, not Parcells.
Damn right on this one, and he'd best do it this week, or his chances of starting dwindle each and every day.
I believe you too. I think Parcells will have influence, but decisions will be made by Tony, and Tony alone.
Exactly. Henne was picked because he was great value at that pick moreso than need. If the Parcells and Ireland really had that many questions about Beck's ability, they would have taken a QB with the first round 2 pick. If Henne starts any regular season games this year, neither Beck or McCown will be on the team next year. Didn't Beck start his freshman year as well? I do know he had a better record than Henne in 'big games', specifically his senior year. Beck did struggle last year, but Cam had NO intention of starting him last year and gave him very little practice time with first team and limited the playbook for him greatly. I think Cam failed Beck more last year than Beck failed as a QB. We WILL see a very different John Beck take the field this year.
If I did do you think I would of made that comment? Short answer to make the playoffs: thats a big maybe Did I expect our D to look that bad: no
Wasn't that Saban's second season that SI predicted us in the Superbowl against Carolina? 2006? I'm not positive, but I think it was. The previous year, we had gone 9-7, and won our final 6 games. We barely missed the payoffs then. Predicting post-season action for us wasn't a stretch at all. Saban looked to be in control, and none of us had any idea how the team would fall apart the next year. I'm ultimately an optimist. I always expect the team to get better.
Yeah and the patsies were supossed to win the s-b in Feb...... We all know how that turned out... LOL SI! Marino1983
Post -season, okay, but SI picked us to WIN the SB over Carolina. Both teams ended up with injuries and out of the playoffs. And yes it was 2006, Satan's final year here
Those superbowl predictions are kind of a joke. Seriously. The author who does them doesn't take it seriously, if you read his articles. BTW< the person who does those picks, is actually the only guy on SI.com you should even listen to, not this joke Don Banks. Dr. Z is the only good writer over there. He knows his football big time.
Yeah, but with us predicted to be in the playoffs, the SB was within reach. At the time, it wasn't a huge stretch with the way we won those last six games after being blanked 22-0 against Cleveland. Like many of us fans, SI just drank the Saban-aide.
