Thigpen looked like he knew he was gonna be third string and that the competition was over..

No disrespect, but you have no idea about the wildcat and how it is incorporated into our gameplan...would you be saying that if a bogus holding call didn't stop a very well executed 20 yard play?

I do believe that. When in doubt, throw it long and high. Chances are Marshall will come down with it. Absolute worst cast, it's like a punt.

i think we have to relax about the special teams. we have new people playing on them and quite a few wont be on the team in three weeks. i figure this next week coming up is when we'll start playing the eventual special teams unit we'll have for the regular season. Remember special teams is where you plug in the bubble guys to see if they can contribute at all

I like Carrol at KR, better than cobbs, gets past the 20 and looks like he could break one once in a blue moon.

Henne looked sharp. Marshall really had some nice blocks. Also Marshalls ability to make moves after the catch is uncanny. Everytime he made a catch he tried to do something after. Good effort and rare talent. I also like seeing Ronnie make catches on the dump offs. He needs to be more evolved in the passing game.

ALSO WTF is with that wildcat back to back crap. Preseason I know but in real games we do that too much. I love the wildcat and the tricks and power but when we run it once and get 5 yards, dont run it again. We always do it back to back and usually its Ronnie up the middle. Then its, "Ok Henne, go in and throw us a TD" which he could have had 2 chances to do.

Imo, I don't think this regime is just going to drop White after a bad rookie season. I think they are showcasing Thigpen and will trade him for a 5th or higher, maybe a 4th if we are lucky.

White will get some time. I just can't see this regime calling it quits on what I would think they would call a specialty pick. Can't hit the broad side of a barn I know, but throughout his football career he has actually been quite accurate.

Fair enough. Maybe it's the expectation of what I think this defense could be compared to what I saw last night that has my panties in a bunch.

But the question was asked of my impressions of the game. That was it.

The hate for Sean Smith in this thread is ridiculous. The kid started 16 games last year. He had 39 tackles, 12 passes defensed and a fumble recovery as a rookie. He certainly didn't get those stats because he's "the 5th best CB on the roster."

Those of you who are jumping to conclusions on the guy based on the past 2 pre-season games need to consider a few things, not the least of which being that he does have an INT already this pre-season. But the real truth of the matter is that CBs often look bad in the pre-season. In a one on one matchup a corner is often going to lose his battles agains the WR be it due to the pass interference rules, the fact that WRs are often faster than CBs or simply the fact that it's easier to play offense than it is to play defense.

Defense is a team game, and right now we're not playing team defense. That's just the nature of the pre-season. Once things really get going we'll see a true pass rush from our front 7. Pass rush makes the QB have to rush his throws. Rushed throws = more INTs. More INTs = "a better CB." But the truth of the matter is, with a few exceptions, there is no CB who can just lock down a whole half of the field and let the QB stand back there and take all day and then decide to where he wants to throw.

Sean Smith will be fine, and he will be a starter. Don't believe me? Vontae Davis has looked just as bad, if not worse, in the first 2 games. After all SS is up 1-0 on VD in INTs. That's what everyone has been crying about so much, right? That SS has no INTs. So there you go.

It's nuts to me the expectations put on some of these players. So much so that some of you expect them to be Pro Bowlers by their second year and if they're not, get em the hell out of here and put the next rookie in. You have to give these guys time to develop. SS is a great player. So is VD. And they're going to make a great corner duo for us for years to come.
