It's not that simple. Not when you have Aaron Hernandez, a tailback in the backfield with Tebow and then a motion man running a sweep to the sideline. Their shovel option is ridiculously hard to defend and they just keep adding on to it. Here's a sample. Well that is where backside contain comes in. Obviously easy isnt the right word, but it's not what I would call "complicated" either. Those plays are the minority, the majority are normal spread option plays. The good thing is that Tebow isnt a very good passer, so that limits what the defense has to look for IMO.
Yes, but he reminds of the Winslow type who is more worried about alking after the play then lining up for the next one. K2 has no buisness NOT being a top 1 or 2 TE in this league, his f-ked up attitude has alot to do with it. That being said Hernandez is not as much of an *** as Winslow (I think)
I'd prefer a real TE thanks. Not a pass catching TE that's an average at best blocker. Won't be a fit at all on a power running team that we are.
Well yeah but again, it's still difficult to take account for basically four guys in the backfield. You're defense line plays down the LOS one way, you're linebackers go another way and you're stuck trying to defend two on one. I think even if you run a scrape exchange against that play, which is basically a zone read beater, it's tough to stop. That's just one of those plays where I think you need to sit down and do a lot of thinking. They've ran quite a bit of zone reads and options IIRC. I don't think that's a minor play. It's just one of several. I agree Tebow isn't that great of a passer but I think he does enough for them. I think what teams try to do against this pass offense is play man and that's why they get burnt. If you flood the short to intermediate zones but mixing it up by dropping various guys in coverage such as zone blitzes and fire blitzes, I think you can stop their pass game. However, you have to have guys who can stay in the hip pocket of the receiver, which is why I'm curious to see Texas play against UF. They've got the speed to do all that and Will Muschamp can dial up blitzes like no other IMO.
these are the absolute worst announcers on any network......they are horrible, make so many mistakes, and completley over react on average plays to make them seem like superbowl winning plays.......ugh
But Clark is on a passing team. Hernandez just isn't a fit on this team for where he's slated to get drafted, which I'm assuming is 3rd round or so.
*Mute* my Brutha, it is rare I don't use mine. MNF with Gruden and Jaws I'll listen to, these hacks? No chance
Doubt that. As I said, this is still a running team. Even if we drafted a pass catching TE, I'd rather have Dennis Pitta or Jimmy Graham.
Someone with his hands, size, and athleticism has a place on this team. Whether we draft him is a separate issue from whether he would fit.
my son and wife will think im not watching the game if i mute it.......then they'll get on my *** about changing it to something "we can all watch" ugh
I'll take Graham. As for us being a running team, yes we are but you can round out these guys and teach them to become a quality blocker IMO.
Perhaps. But I'd still rather have Pitta or Graham. Pitta is better imo, and Graham has a lot of potential. Plus I'm not a big fan of drafting a TE in the 3rd. Graham can be had in later rounds. Just me I guess.
Really? He sort of looked like he was jogging and not really pursuing, which allowed McElroy to tap dance down the sideline..
Graham's going up the boards pretty strong right now and could end up as a fourth. Pitta's in that range as well so I don't see that big of a difference in the rounds. It's just a preference thing I suppose because I think a guy like Hernandez would do this offense wonders.
