The New Orleans Saints own the most talented roster in the NFL. Their lineup features elite players at the game’s most critical positions: quarterback; left and right tackle; edge rusher; and shutdown corner. And the core of the roster consists of players in the prime of their careers.

Thanks to this windfall of talent, the Saints have captured three consecutive NFC South titles and won more games than any team in the league the past three seasons.

Several factors have led to this resurgence in the second half of the Sean Payton-Drew Brees era, among them an overhauled defensive coaching staff and a recommitted, refocused Payton. The superstitious among us even believe the team’s choice of training camp locations has aided the cause.

But it would be hard to say anything has affected the Saints’ success more than the hiring of Jeff Ireland.
