He has a great offensive line, a pass catching TE, a solid running game, and two above-average receivers in Cotch and Edwards. That usually spells success for just about any QB, especially one drafted so high. Put Chad Henne on that team and the Jets are a 3 seed in the playoffs.
I can't say it was a bad decision mainly b/c they didn't have any other options. If they'd had a Pennington there it would be different, but they had no vet of consequence. No matter what Sanchez was going to struggle. He is a guy with little starting experience, even in college. I actually think the Jets have done well to achieve the record they have. But there was no different starter they could have put in and improved that record.
He really does have a great team around him. A top defense, a plethora of weapons available to him, a good running game and still fails that miserably? If they had acquired a veteran quarterback that team would be quite good, quite good. Daunte Culpepper could have led that team to the playoffs. Trent Dilfer could have done it. Sanchez has been putrid except against Miami. About the only thing that team truly lacks is a great pass rush. If Gholston had turned it would have been trouble.
The problem with Sanchez is he is regressing, from 3-0 to color codes on his wrist band play cheat sheet, he just is not picking that offense up very quickly. And imho he may not have the makeup to play in NY, this is a SoCal kid who has known nothing but success. I don't believe the Jest made a mistake starting him so quickly, I do believe they made a mistake in adding to many things to his plate quickly and now he has hit the rookie wall. Toss in a Rook Head Coach who is defensive minded and small wonder Sanchez is having problems
With the #1 defense in all of football though? Comon now. He should be able to handle that. Give Henne that defense and he is undefeated.
Nonesense. Do you realize the failure rate incrued with sending a rookie immediately into the fire? If he had less talent around him, the NY papers would already have burried him. Of course, even if he didn't suck so bad, his failure rate would still be astronomical
