At this point, finishing out the season 2-2 seems reasonable.

Really? How many playoff games have we won with Ireland? He's had about as bad a run as a drafter as well.

If you do fap over Ireland, save the results in a jar and mail it to finomenial. He can use it on his morning serving of Fruit Loops cereal. :sidelol:

Not sure about your General Manager? Give him a boatload of picks and cap space to find out....

Hey..if he screws it up, it will only set us back another 3 years or so.

We have sucked for 10 years, why not 13?

And give him that stuff in a draft year where our biggest needs (WR and CB) are weak spots in the draft.

    Wonderful.

This team better spend some money in free agency. If we don't even attempt to sign Wallce/Jennings/Bowe and I hear nonsense about how we're "growing our own" I will not be pleased

We've essentially been average under Ireland. The same can be said for his drafting. Matt Millen was so bad he would kill to be considered an average GM. Comparing Ireland to him isn't a good comparison.

Next year's schedule is significantly harder than this year's. Even if the team is significantly improved, the record may not bear it out. Ireland's got an uphill battle.

This team is not average under Ireland. Perennial losing seasons is not "average".

I would be stunned if one of those 3 WR's aren't here next season. It's obvious we need a major threat on the outside and we should have the cap space to get it done. Sign one of those guys and draft a pass rusher in the 1st round and that's a great start.

    100% agreed

Have we become so beaten down that 7-9 is now seen as an average year and not something to be upset about?

I remember when we used to be pissed about being 10-6 and getting the 5th seed instead of homefield advantage.

Wannstedt was fired because back-to-back 11-5 seasons weren't good enough LOL

EDIT: Yes, I know he technically "resigned". C'mon though.

He went 11-5, 11-5, 9-7, 10-6, then resigned after a 1-7 (?) start. He was given the chance to resign.

Point remains, look at how much the perception has changed when Ireland presides over 11-5, 7-9, 7-9, 6-10, possibly another 7-9 and some fans are OK with him keeping his job.

Why because we win 5-6 games instead of 2-4? Like it or not we've become a mainstay at the bottom of the league ever since Ireland has been here. Average is winning 8 games or so and just missing the playoffs. Not making the playoffs is terrible whether you've won 2 or 6 games. The only difference between Millen and Ireland is that Millen didn't call some kid's mother a whore during the pre draft interviews.

Yep, Wanny was "allowed to resign" because simply making the playoffs wasn't good enough and Wayne wanted to actually win the Super Bowl.

Winning the Super Bowl seems to be down the list of priorities for the current braintrust, and since we cannot even make the tournament consistently, we are stuck.

How did I not read it thoroughly?

We are on track for 7-9 again. This is apparently a successful season to you and many others.

I just don''t understand why you, and Ross apparently, feel this way.

This is why I'm surprised some of the older fans here are so patient. I'm a Braves fan. They went to the playoffs 14 years in a row. They don't go now? Wasted, failure of a season. That's probably what upsets me the most. This franchise has and was set to a higher standard. Now? Four straight losing seasons doesn't even get the GM fired.

Under Ireland's tenure, our winning percentage is 47%. Under Millen the lions winning percentage was 24%. Ireland's draft record and acquisitions surpass Millen's. You have no idea what you're talking about. There is nothing similar between the two. Millen was one of, if not the worse, GMs in history.

Now consider also that Dave Wannstedt was stripped of his GM powers after the 10-6 season, NOT after the 1-7 start in 2004. The Dolphins go 12-6 (I'm counting playoffs), 11-6, 9-7 and 10-6. Essentially, Dave Wannstedt the General Manager was fired after a 42-25 (0.627) record that included 2 playoff appearances in 4 years, and no losing seasons.

Jeff Ireland has amassed a 36-41 (0.467) record with four straight losing seasons. That's not "average" and you're right it's kind of amazing how much our standards have changed for the GM.

    I don't undersdtand it either.

And I'd be willing to be patient if we had a completely new regime here, but we don't.

Enough is enough. If we keep Ireland next year, nothing short of making the playoffs and potentially winning a game there is acceptable.

If he is retained as the GM if the Dolphins once again finish below 500, I will just accept that Ross has absolutely no desire to see this organization be anything but mediocre or worse. I certainly won't blame Ireland for remaining the teams GM. I will put all the blame on Ross and I will stop attending games again until either he fires Ireland or he sells the team. I gave up my season tickets two years ago because of my frustration with Sparano and Ireland. This year I have gone to four home games because I wanted to support the players. I just won't go to any more games next year if Ross keeps Ireland as the teams GM.

If he keeps Ireland after this season, my hope is that he will just sell the team to someone who actually has a clue, when it comes to running an NFL franchise.
