the 4 million raise could help in cutting wheeler, it would cause a 4.2 million cap hit if i remember correctly so you get out of this situation at almost zero
It would cause a -$4.2M cap savings... maybe that's where the source's confusion was from. We'd basically break even if we cut him in 2015 though.
That's a pretty exciting number. I think CK said we need about $6 million for rookies so that leave a decent amount of fun money. We can make some noise next year I think.
You guys have this all wrong. The Dolphins had plenty of cap room and a few players they could easily move to get over 14 mil more. What this really means for us is that it is now easier for those cap strapped teams to keep their veterans. There are several examples but chief of these IMO would be Eugene Monroe. The Ravens still have their work cut out for them but it will now be much easier for them to re-sign Eugene Monroe to a mutually satisfying deal. The salary cap raise is horrible horrible news!!
You think the players and their agents aren't aware of the increase??? Hitting free agency this offseason versus last will be like striking oil.
That would be just like the Dolphins. Give up on Wheeler too soon, he goes back to Oakland and has a repeat of 2012. Since his base salary is fully guaranteed in 2014, it makes zero sense to cut him. None whatsoever. If he is too bad to start, we may as well keep him as a backup and special teamer at least, since we're paying him no matter what.
This is bad news for the 'phins and other teams with plenty of room under the cap. This means more money is available to cap strapped teams to compete against us for FAs. Everybody gets an extra $4M or so. We had ~$30M available so our available cap space is increase by about 12%. For a team which had $10M their available cap space is increased by 40%.
