There is no friendship more pure, more forgiving, more caring, more absolute than that of a dog. Best buddy I ever had was a big black lab that got old and passed many years ago. I miss her often especially when I go swimming. Prayers, best wishes and peace of mind that he had a happy life and is at peaceful rest now.
Thanks Pagan, it was a really tough day. It all hit me at dinner last night, when my little buddy was not pokin' at me on my leg to give him scraps and to lick my dinner plate. I always saved a little bit of my dinner to give to the dog. He wasn't there to get it last night
Aww that sucks my man. Folks underestimate the emotional connection that we feel to pets. I lost my cat a few years back and was devastated. Sorry to hear about it bro.
Thanks 117, He had them from a young age, the 1st one I saw him have he must have been 2 or so. I caught him about 4 times in total, but I have no idea how many he actually had or how often they occured as he didn't sleep in my room, but usually in the Florida Room or after I moved back home after Dad's death in 1999, he would also often sleep in Mom's room. The doctor said they are not that uncommon and also weren't harmful to Jasper, so I never worried about them, until this past week.
That was beautiful Opfinistic, Thanks for posting that, I will have to print it and share it with my Mom.
Thanks bro, I am actually doing pretty good. I had to be the one to take my previous dog, Junior, in and have him put down in 1994, and then believe it or not, go straight on to work (I worked a 4pm to 12am shift). That was a tough night at work, since that dog was truly my dog.....it was just Junior and myself down at my townhome in Cutler Ridge during Hurricane Andrew. I hugged him as we crouched under a mattress in a bathroom as the rest of the building practically disintergreted around us. That really bonded us and he was never the same after that storm, and had to be put down less than 2 years later.
Thanks John its surely appreciated. I am very touched by all the posts, and the kindness everyone has shared. ThePhins.com is truly a family.
Awwww Kitty is a sweetheart I am sure. Make sure to love her and take special care of her. Those attacks she has I am sure are very scary for her, and she could use the extra love. The doctors have Kitty on some medicine ?
Thanks Holli, you tell the truth. We couldn't help but love Jasper, as he was just as cute as a button, and was always friendly and willing to love you. I will always remember that about him the most.
I'm sorry Nabo I get everyone's names all mixed up sometimes. Travis is Aqua right ? <==== old fart (48 yrs old)
Thanks Buckeye, he did live quite the life. He loved his home and his people, as we loved him a lot right back. And yes we could see a real decline in his health for the last 3 or 4 months, and knew it was just a matter of time.
Thanks Regan, we tried our best. Like I said earlier today, he often ate sirloin tip steak, and the same night we ate On-Cor Salisbury Steaks.
Thanks Amanda !!!! Love ya girl, and hopefully I'll be back to my playful self in JTT2 and we can get back to having some fun
Sorry to hear about you loss, brother. I cried like a baby years ago when we had to put my dog down after more than 13 years with her. It was a sad day, indeed. Here's hoping you have happier days soon enough.
Very sorry to hear of Jasper's passing brother Kevin. As you stated in your opening, he has spend many splendored years on Gods Green earth, and with his health failing as it was, we all know that Heaven is where he needed to be. Very very blessed that your mother has you to help her through it. 16 years of the love that only a Dog can give is hard to give up. Hopefully, when things settle, she will see another Dog come into the picture? BTW: Anybody think that DOG spelled backwards being GOD is an accident.... Nope, me neither Take care friend, you know I am here
Don't know how I missed this Kevin.. my heartfelt condolences brother. I lost Pup half a year ago and miss him every day. I buried him here on the shore of Indian River which he loved so he gets to greet the sunrise every morning. Last weekend, I found myself perusing Shar Pei puppies..
I say go for it. Nothing heals that hole in the heart more than a goofy little destructive puppy peeing all over the place and loving the hell out of you!
Sorry to hear about your loss. I still get teary eyed when I think about my old beagle Suzy. I was in college and wasn't there for her when she passed. I've never forgiven myself for not being there during her final moments. At least you were there for your dog. But I have two other dogs now and I already dread the day when they pass on. If only they could engineer a dog with a human life span. They truly are man's best friend.
Thanks bro, its been a tough week and I am still down and out. I haven't really been able to get things going all week and I think its just the general malaise I am feeling still 3 days afterwards. Again thanks Raul.
Brother Kenny ! DUDE ! Thanks, bro you always know what to say to cheer me up As for another dog, I want one, she is resistant right now. I am looking to get a shelter dog this next time, no pure breds. Besides those dogs really need homes and most are very grateful to get the chance at a real home. And no that is no accident bro.....not at all
Marty ! Bro you are a special guy, and and your post means a lot to me. I know that Pup is very grateful for your kindness for his resting place. I'm sure he would be happy for you to get a special new friend, and shar-pei's are very good pets. I had a good friend, an old Pastor of mine, who had a shar-pei that was just the most fun and friendly dog you have ever met. I say its been 6 months for go for it....its time, and Pup would heartily agree.
Agree 100 % Blitz ! They are always there for you, never judging you, but nothing but adoration and love. That's why I cannot get into cats that much, they are just too aloof. I enjoy the interaction with a dog that can't be replaced even with most people you know. They truly are our best friend.
I love both cats and dogs. We don't have a dog now because we don't have a proper yard and work long hours, but in my life, I've had seven dogs, and I still miss them all. In regard to cats, I have a cat Zeus who is, in essence, dog-like. Greets at the door, is not happy until that greeting is fully returned. We also have an aloof cat, Athena, who is so regally beautiful, who can deny her that? Either way, when you're ready and have the time, beautiful dogs and cats are waiting to be loved at local shelters. But don't write off cats in a blanket statement as all being aloof--most are cool critters and their independence is a bonus sometimes.
Nah, I can't since I live in an apartment complex that doesn't allow them but once I get my own place I will. Miss having a dog.
