A very physical safety, SS candidate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrqfAgHo82o Showcasing an NFL-ready body, Miles is a fluid athlete, who displays solid range and the ability to make plays at all levels of the field. Playing with a linebacker mentality, he’s an aggressive downhill attacker, with plus closing speed and the eagerness to thump a ballcarrier at every opportunity. Cal employs a 4-2-5 scheme, with Miles in single-high and two-deep looks. Although he doesn’t have the man coverage skills to stick with a receiver through an entire route, he has the size, speed, and lateral agility to match up with any tight end, and most running backs. At times, Miles is slow recognizing route combinations, making him a step late providing help in the deep third. And, teams have taken advantage of his aggressiveness, getting him to bite hard on play action, not staying deeper than the deepest receiver. Still, he’s a terminator in the open field, looking to separate an opponent’s limbs from his body." http://draftbreakdown.com/rontez-miles-hammer-of-the-gods
It's funny but Miles definitely popped up all over the place when I was watching Cal-PA game highlights to see more of Peter Lalich.
He certainly looks like a punishing hitter and a good blitzer as well as a solid special teams player. Coverage- tough to tell in those video clips- I tried to watch his back pedal and reaction times, and they were nothing particularly striking. SS only it seems from what I saw and what was written, the writer certainly has seen more of him that I have. From what I did see my best guess is that he could make an NFL roster as a special teams ace and backup SS, from there who knows. Very tough, hard nosed player, at least form that video. INT at 8:40- very good of him to come down with the ball, but it looks like kind of lousy coverage. Interesting prospect.
