Not saying this means one or the other is right - just providing an update.

Giddings' business had started a relationship with the Dolphins going all the way back to 1977. That relationship ended about 6 years ago which would suggest Nick Saban ended it.

I certainly wouldn't expect Giddings to admit that he was interviewed for a job that is currently occupied, much like Harbaugh never actually admitted his interview with the Dolphins, even after Ross went public about it.

But he didn't flatly deny talking to somebody with the Dolphins which lends some credence to the original Payne tweet

It's interesting that the relationship goes back that far. Clearly Don Shula knew or was involved in that. Wonder if Ross has been listening to him a little more than normal lately.

Truthfully it's probably not worth speculating on anymore. It was never likely that this was the harbinger of Ireland's departure this off season, rather just a mild point of interest. And now that mild point of interest has been denied by both the Dolphins and by Giddings himself, though the guy who originally reported it is sticking to his guns and saying he knows the meeting happened. Unless it's likely to be the first sign of something shocking that happens, which as we all said from the start is unlikely, then with everyone trenched in on their denials and he-said/she-said...it's no longer a story IMO.

Seems like Ross meeting / speaking with someone from this organization is mild news - it's that the Payne guy included the 'about the GM position' portion. I think it's fairly possible a meeting / conversation happened, but the exact details of what was discussed were overblown when told to Payne.

We really have no idea whatsoever, and we're not going to, is what I'm getting at. Let's say the meeting DID occur and it WAS about the GM job, and in lieu of hiring him as a GM the Dolphins are instead deciding to resume their subscription to his services. At that point, do you really expect anyone to admit that they talked about the GM job, even Giddings? I certainly don't. The denials that have occurred were likely to happen whether the meeting happened the way Payne said it did or not.

But the fact of the matter is it's total he-said/she-said territory and since nothing is going to come of it anyway I'm not even sure it's worth our attention anymore.

Would be interesting to see how many people signed up for Payne's "handicapping service" since he broke that rumor (which happened to be right at the start of the biggest gambling period of the year).

Maybe Ross was looking into getting Ireland a late Christmas present, a subscription to Scouts, inc , lord knows he needs all the help he can get.

lol that wouldn't be a bad idea...Ross should give him a subscription to PFF as well to prevent all of his terrible free agent signings.

I think if his goal was to increase traffic to his site, there would be better rumors, important to a wider range of people, that he could have used for that purpose.

Anything better would likely just be ignored. This is obscure enough that people wouldn't be as skeptical, and he wouldn't receive much scrutiny. I mean just looking at this guys website, its obvious he's trying to deceive people.

Wasn't it report that Ross was going to speak to the Miami media sometime this week? I wonder if that's something that'll be addressed, or if it's a reason why Ross hasn't spoken with anyone yet.

This was going to be my question, sort of.....

Did Ross have his PROMISED meeting with the local media this week ? If he didn't, why didn't he and why hasn't the local media made a stink about it ? (because they usually make a stink about everything)

What should have happened is Jeff Ireland should have gone to see him. That's what a responsible GM does - get objective, outside opinions.

Ireland - like what he's done or not - does not strike me as a guy who is uber-detail oriented, open-minded or willing to self-evaluate as he should. Many of his explanations for liking a player are often superficial, imo. He gets some impression from some anecdotal experience and that convinces him. It's more of a "gut" thing (which you have to use at some point) but more detailed info and objective info is often needed.

LOL. Do you know if he did or didn't? No, of course you don't. Hell, for all you know Ireland talks to this guy or an equivalent everyday.
