Yeah, PFT reported the same thing...I hope it works out for us, but somehow I just think that they aren't $6m dollars interested...

well since Rams wont invest 6.9 mill (thats what his RFA tender would have went up to if they wanted to keep him) then it shouldnt be more than that per season... i think it will be a combination of who offers best my AND years

Man, I hope this happens for Miami. Can't have another showing like last year and hope for a playoff berth.

Interesting. I'd like for us to get him. After Bell, im not very confident in our safety position. Thats not saying im 100% on Bell either. Adding Atogwe would be a great addition to an area of need. Not the best signing ever, and he's not the best player at his position, but a great one for us when considering the need.

I don't if I like this guy...I'm thinking that he is only in it for the money, why would want to re-join one of the worst franchises in the NFL? He should be willing to take a pay cut to play for us.

Dude grew up in Canada, that doesn't preclude a family tie to St Louis but it does reduce it.

To me, if the Rams waited this long and no deal has been made, chances are good Atogwe would listen to other offers.

could be there are no other offers or maybe the dolphins offered what they feel is fair market and the rams are in the same ballpark and atogwe is using it for leverage.

With each big-time $$$ free agent we add, our chances of becoming the Washington Redskins increases. I'd really hate to have a bunch of overpaid busts on our team. Because all that this "spending" guarantees is a huge cap hit. Are three largely-appraised free-agents in one offseason really worth the risk?

Also, sorry to rain on the parade like this.

no i'm with you on this one i would rather develop what we have than go after atogwe. my guess if we offered at all it wasn't what the player expected to get on the open market in an uncapped season

If we had made an offer the Rams could match it, that is the nature of the tag they used on him.

If wants leverage he will have to make some visits.

A little bit, but unlike the Redskins we have far more players we drafted ourselves as starters.

I do know this, the less questions you have, the better off a team is, and we have huge questions at OLB and FS.

Its not that big of a risk.

When you draft a rookie, you take an even bigger risk, and they make huge salaries as well. So its not that big of a risk $7 million/year

The rams lost the right of first refusal as of midnight June 1st. Now, they can still match any offer I guess but Atogwe is free to sign with who he wishes.

If I was him I would pick Miami in a Heartbeat.. No State Taxes, Nicer Weather, A team that is on the rise, and an organization committed to winning.. That or well sign on again with St. Louis who already established you were not worth your price..

I just hope the kid signs soon. After 2 months I'm tired of seeing these threads. If he becomes a fin I'll be happy and I'll cheer for him. If he goes somewhere else I'll be happy. I don't think the kid is worth the money he's asking for, but I don't make the decisions. Again, I just want it all to be over with.

    Not really.

The Washington Redskins are who they are bc they sign over-hyped (Hall) free agents w/work ethic (Haynesworth) issues.

I'm not sure I want to win this one if it'll cost more than $4m a year.

He's good, not great. And he's aging. And he has started to get injured.

He's be an improvement, but not a $7m a year improvement.

We better not go overboard signing this guy. I believe he is just testing waters to see if he can juice up what the Rams are offering him. As bad as people think our pass defense was, the Rams were almost identical with him. We gave up a total of 3754 passing yards, Rams , with Atogwe, gave up 3764 passing yards. We gave up 23 passing TDs, Rams, with Atogwe, gave up 22 passing TDs. Gotta ask yourself, how much better is he then what we have ? Even the attempts are almost even, Dolphins had 489 passes thrown at them, Rams had 491 passes thrown at them.

I am not usually a stat guy but there is almost no difference in teams performance with him, or without him. There is a reason his team did not tender him the 6.9 million and there is reason there is not more then, what ? 2 - 3 teams, Rams included, even giving him a sniff. I say offer him something decent, see if he likes it here and then see what happens. To go overboard on a guy like this could be a big mistake.

When the Greatest Show on Turf was in St. Louis, we were still a perennial playoff team. When we started sucking hard, including 2007 (ugh), the Rams decided to suck hard as well. By the time Atogwe came in the league, we were 4-12 going on 9-7 and they were 8-8 going on 6-10. Neither were great and Atogwe doesn't have any memories of success to keep him in St. Louis.

I don't see that at all. The three big FAs are all young. Adding good young players is how you build a team. The key is that the fit has to be right. What Washington did was sign many older players and then they had little stability in the coaching so the types of players that fit kept changing. They also often went for the hype players and overpaid for it.

As for the fit, Marshall and Dansby are ideal fits. It could be argued that OJ hasn't played FS in a 3-4, but I don't think that adjustment is that big. I also don't see Miami overpaying. They seem to stick within their internal budget very strictly.

I just get the sense that the troika won't lose any sleep over it. They'll make an offer, perhaps low ball it and let him come back with what the Rams have offered and they make a decision from there. I don't think they see FS as big a hole as many of the rest of us do... They did the same things with Clark and Rolle...they made what they thought were fair market offers and let the chips fall. If they were so worried about the FS spot, they'd have taken those moves more seriously...

We were plenty confident after throwing all that money at Girbil. Was that false sense of security worth it?

This is one of those rare occasions where I would almost rather have an un-proven, underpaid (using that term very loosely) guy with a chip on his shoulder come out of nowhere and make a name for himself. Not someone who'll be fat and happy after a big pay-day.

According to Jeff Darlington this morning...

They must really like what Clemons is showing them. And/or they just don't believe Atogwe is worth that kind of money.

Indeed, doesn't seem like they'll lose much sleep. I'm wondering if yesterday's report of a strong push by Fanhouse came from Atogwe's agent (with reason to have that notion out there).
