Carolina is interested in JT, per Bill Werdel of Double XX 1090. The problem is the 15 million over the next two years, and the 1st round pick. Coach Fox only has one year left on his contract. This was also confirmed by my good friend in NC. He is going to make some calls tomorrow on this.
Interesting. I think the contract would be difficult for them to handle. Aren't they already in cap trouble?
http://www.charlotte.com/qna/forum/scott_fowler/index.html Submitted by Dwight from Concord Q: Hey Scott ... have you heard any whisperings about what teams might go after Jason Taylor if he indeed is let go by Parcells and the Dolphins? To me, one of the biggest holes we have left after free agency and the draft is another great defensive end to play opposite Peppers. Think there is any chance we could land that fish? Answered 05/25/08 15:56:58 by Scott Fowler A: Dwight: It sounds like Taylor is finished in Miami. I really think the Panthers should make a strong play for him. Apparently, the asking price is around a second-round pick for 2009. Panthers already have traded away No.1 pick that season; if they're really serious about this season, trading away No.2 for Taylor is a good move in my opinion. "Dancing with the Stars" aside, it was only two years ago that this was the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year. Throughout his career, he's been a more consistent sacker than Peppers, and that's saying something. Now it would cost a lot of money (Taylor slated to earn $15.5 million over next two years) and he'd be a short-term fix, for sure, but if you really want to get a guaranteed pass rush from your front four, this is a great way to go. I think he's got at least 2 very good years left. And maybe you could get him for a No.3 now that the relationship with Miami has deteriorated so much. (Remember, Randy Moss only was worth a No.4 pick a couple of years ago). Taylor turns 34 in September and is coming off an 11-sack season (more than any 3 Panther players put together). He also made the Pro Bowl for the sixth time. Also, Tampa Bay is one of the rumored suitors -- wouldn't you rather play with Taylor than against him? I think this makes a whole lot of sense, which probably means, of course, that it won't happen.
Philly Billy used to annoy me, but he's pretty decent. Once I discovered Xxtra 1360 (because of one of your posts FFIC, hey I'm new to AM Radio!) I listen to them more, but Billy has grown onto me. Funny that he usually just rehashes everything I hear here first, and then they act like it's so groundbreaking. Maybe they should just read The Phins first.
Yeah bro he has gotten better. I haven't listened to 1360 but a time or two. I called a good friend in Charlotte right away on this. He was told by one of the guys who was working with him, that JT could be coming to Carolina. We shall see bro.
I dont think Carolina would be attractive to JT .If Carolina doesnt make the playoffs John Fox will probably be fired and JT will find himself in the same boat as he has here. New regime and a retooling effort . Good find anyway John.
If Carolina is willing to give up a first round pick that is good with me even though I hate to see Jason Taylor go. Good read guys
I agree. Unless there's an injury or a team that feels they are one impact player from top contention (and they have later pick), we won't be receiving that type of compensation.

Parcells and Co. have gotten good value in the trades they have made so I can't see us taking a low ball offer for him. We might meet on a 2nd or conditional 3rd to a 2nd if criteria is met, but I definately don't see us getting poor value for him on Parcells watch.
i still don't think Parcells will trade JT. i believe he meant what he said and i think he will stand by it. "..Jason Taylor will play for Miami or he will retire..."
Carolina is currently negotiating with Peppers on his contract. After a bad year last year, apparently his agent still wants top dollar. That leads me to wonder if the 'interest' in Jason Taylor may not just be a tactic they are using to soften Peppers' side in negotiations by hinting they could replace him. Or, if they acquire Jason, Peppers may sign for less, or they may part ways with him. Not surewhich, but Taylor figures into Peppers situation in more ways than just potentially being paired with him.
Word is that Carolina agrees the bad season isn't indicative of anything, and they're willing to give him a new contract anyway.
I can't understand that... it's awfully nice of the organization, though odd. I mean, if a usually not-so-great NFL player has a HUGE season they always leverage a big new contract out of it, pointing to their performance the previous season as indicative of the type of player they are *now* and what to expect next year. Interesting that Carolina is okay with Peppers' season. Obviously they know the internal situation, though, and any mitigating circumstances. Bpk
That is supposedly only what Tunaland will consider, but the Panthers don't have a first in 2009, so it obviously won't be a first from them...
I could see Carolina doing a little something this year. They still have Steve Smith, the guys just need to stay healthy through the season.
Interesting. Weren't their questions earlier this off-season about his dedication/passion to/for the game?
Julius Peppers coming off one end and Jason Taylor coming off another is even scarier than a Freeney / Taylor combination in Indianapolis. I already think Carolina is going to be a sleeper division champion this year and this trade would make them 10x more lethal on the defensive side of the ball and as we all know... Defense Wins CHAMPIONSHIPS.
