Even if he did, Ross needs to STFU. He is the next Dan Snyder or Al Davis if he keeps this up. Doesn't he get that we don't want to see his ugly mug right now ? That he was to blame for our ridicule last week ? This is starting to look more & more like an owner that is starting to like being in the spotlight and thinks HE is one of those damn celebrities he so desperately wants to have as co-owners. We are getting into "Davisian" territory here. Al Davis does this all the time. Is that what we really want ?

what miami fans want is a ring. if we ran fifty times a game and threw ten but walked away with a super bowl victory i doubt there would be anyone who would complain. that is the only message ross should be giving. i want to win a super bowl. not what type of offense we are going to run to get that ring.

Al Davis chooses players and studies game plans.

Ross is not doing any of that. all he did was say what every fan said. Our offense was too conservative and we need to open it up.

it could be but if it was i hope it wasnt a case of tony saying what he thought the owner wanted to hear rather i want to think that tony actually believes it

he is not qualified to say that and neither are our fans. if this team is going to be run by the fans we will go from mediocre to putrid

You didn't think our offense was too conservative?

It didn;t take a genius to see that and tony saw it too. While I don't think he's a great coach, he's not a complete moron. He knows they have to get more big plays and score more points if they are going to win.

Tony was telling him what he wanted to hear, because he wanted to keep his job. Tony could have taken steps this season, yet didn't. So why trust Tony now ?

I think you're getting the intentions of diehard fans, and the majority of fans clouded. I've got nothing to back up my opinion, but I'd say most people who go to football games are looking for an exciting game just as much as they're looking for a win. Filling up those seats with people who may not exactly follow the Dolphins religiously, but want to watch an exciting game is just as important to the product on the field (12th man and all) as getting wins. We can get into the argument about our stadium not creating enough noise, but thats not really the point I'm trying to make.

Stephen Ross getting more fans into the stadium helps the team. I completely understand the concern of him being a controlling owner, but after 2 losing seasons, he needs to, do some creative PR to get people to continue to buy into this team.

And...............we're right back to the QB. IF they focused on the long ball all of training camp, and preseason, why do people think it disappeared during the season? Maybe because Henne is lousy at it?
Is it not reasonable to think the reason our running game stunk so bad is because the other team was focusing on stopping the run and daring us to throw it? Which was BASICALLY said by players on the other teams, forcing Henne to play small ball, maybe because he wont take the risk of throwing downfield?

Ross last week listened to what Tony told him last week, and then he went out and pursued Jim Harbaugh. That tells me all I need to know about what Tony must have told him. We only have Tony as our HC because Harbaugh, Cowher & Gruden (and perhaps others we don't know about) rebuffed Ross. So the owner is now being vocal about it. I get that, but when he starts making suggestions about how to run the offense (the suggestion about no huddle) that is when Ross needs to STFU. Let Tony worry about what offense to run, and if it bombs out next year, you know you gave him a 4 year chance and he blew it.

whether it is or isnt isnt the point. its whats the role of an owner. an owner IMO is someone who should put the people in charge who will achieve a common goal. namely a super bowl. what an owner shouldnt be talking about, especially one as clueless as him is how to go about that in terms of strategy. that is for the people he hires to decide, not him. notice he didnt say we are going to open it up because thats the best way to win but rather because thats what the fans want. an owner that is always going to cater to the fans is destined for failure.

    More knee-jerk, I see.

Ross stated that he wants an exciting, winning team.

He isn't choosing players or plays or game plans for God's sake.

well, my question is .... IF that's what he wants, then why did he hire Parcells in the 1st place .......

i for one, do not want the days of Dan the Man .... i want a shut down defense combined with an innovative, creative offense that has 3-4 legitimate playmakers that gives us options and the ability to score points. some would say that this is not possible, but i disagree ... equally, $$$$ usually has a lot to say about what direction you go --

well hopefully the noise problem will be solved with the Marlins leaving and the new seating being installed. who knows. i understand he's worried about his billion dollar investment but the successful businessman always knows to defer to the experts. you cant just snap your fingers and say we're going to be the marino dolphins of the 80s if you dont have marino as your qb and instead have henne. all coordinators are going to have pass plays and when the QB executes those pass plays consistently, thats when they open up the offense. when the qb doesnt execute the pass plays they tend to scale back. its based on personnel not trying to put together an exciting product. if ross was smart he would have waited to see who we picked up in the draft and who we picked up in FA. If we get Mark Ingram and fail to land any QB are we still going to be a wide open no huddle offense? this is like his famous super bowl prediction. he was probably the only dolphin fan who actually believed we had a shot

well he said he doesnt want to be like the AFC NORTH because the fans of Miami demand something different. Great, why would we ever want to be the Steelers or Ravens? He wants to run a hurry up offense to take advantage of the humidity. do we abandon it in november? he wants to open it up and be creative. wouldnt you just prefer to get it good no matter how its achieved. why put limitations on it

I talked to fans who thought running on 3rd and 2 was too conservative or said Miami ran too much in the redzone when the run pass ratio was pretty close to 50%.

I do not think the game planning was good by any means, however I found the execution much worse

    Worse than 1-15?
    Worse than 62-7?
Worse than Marino tearing his Achilles?
    Worse than Wannyball?
    Worse than Cam Cameron?
    Worse than Nick Saban?
Worse than not winning a ring for Marino?
Worse than the past 20 years of mediocrity?
Worse than not being in an AFC Championship game since 1992??

LOL.. You sir lack any perspective. If an Owner stating the obvious, that all the armchair coaches in these forums have been screaming for the past two years is the worst thing to happen to the Miami Dolphins, then you either have selective memory or a vandetta agains the ownership.. The latter seems to be the case based on your posting history.

Why don't you get a nice family, like Ted Ginn's family and form a nice family run ownership group, the Adam Ginn family ownership group and pony up the 1 billion to purchase this team since we are currently witnessing the worst era in Phins history because of this past week...

maybe its too early to make declarative statements like that but i see a daniel snyder wannabe and that is frightening. you can always fire a coach or cut a player but how do you get rid of a daniel snyder. if this guy is the next daniel snyder you can add another ten years of futility

I love the fact that we should 'open it up'. We couldn't run the ball last year and Henne has yet to throw for more TD's than INT's in a season. We better do a whole lot of work on the O side of the ball in the offseason if you want to 'open it up'. We all want great offense to watch as fans, but you have to get the personnel. You just can't wish it into existence.

PS: Can we quit cutting our OLine depth, like we did last year? That might help out.

Ross was SILENT in 2009, all he did was improve the stadium experience and generate a ton of energy that was lacking at JRS for several years..... Does everyone agree that Pitbull music should replace the old classic rock that blared through JRS? Nope.. Even I didn't love the changes.. But the Dolphins play in Miami and the energy was bumped up..
The stadium is improved as well.

Ross has been silent for nearly two years until last week. He made a rookie mistake in how he handled the Harbaugh situation and apologized for it. He is well within his right to make the comments he made about the offense. Everyone in Miami agrees that we played too conservative in the red zone.

I will agree with you the moment I hear that Ireland and Sparano were FORCED to draft player X or FORCED to draft offensive talent when we had a superior defensive player in our sights.

We have yet to see or hear that. Until that moment arrives I will continue to appreciate the improvments he has made to the stadium and passion around the team.

LOL! So which is it? Do you want Ross to "wish" or "dictate"?

The absurdity around this place is mind boggling.

First, Ross stated what he wants. And that is a winning, exciting team. Do you all want that?

I must have missed it where Ross gave Tony his personal playbook, designed and contructed by Ross, and said, "Here, Tony, I want you to run these plays!"

I must have missed the part where Ross was down on the sidelines, calling plays, sub'ing players, and giving out signals. I must have missed the part where he has done anything other than open up his checkbook and try to get as much advice from "NFL people" as possible. Because from the sound of a few of you Ross is meddling more than those things.

Well then you better hope I never become a bazillionaire...because if I do...Im buying the Phins one day...and Im gonna tell my coach the same thing....I OWN THE TEAM. I WANT A HIGH SCORING OFFENSE. GIVE ME A HIGH SCORING OFFENSE or I will hire someone who will.

    Thats what Ross has said.

Tony, I want you to do this. You have three years...but I will fire your *** next year if I dont think these changes are being made.

Some people are never happy! Everyone agrees we need a more explosive offense, our owner comes out and agrees with us. Them they are on his *** for agreeing with what they want! My only problem with the situation is if Sparano doesn't agree and isnt willing to change his philosophy, then we are just leading the horse to the water no guarantee he drinks!

I dont think personally you pencil yourself into one or the other. You run when its clear you have an opponent that cant stop the run, and you pass when you have an opponent that cant stop the pass.

Why cant we start of games in September by going no huddle. And no huddle, doesnt mean pass. It means, no huddle. How many running plays does Oregon run out of their spread offense. You can change looks with the running game....you can have multiple backs in the backfield...you can get a speed guy like Noel Devine and have him out there with a guy like Ronnie Brown...and be fast paced and explosive and run the ball 70% of the time....

    Bull crap.

Either make the changes I want or your fired. Then I will hire a coach that will do that. I do not want to see another season of fist pumping FG's. I do not want to see play action passes on 3rd and Long when everyone and their six year old children know you arent running the ball. I do not want to see you get up by seven, and spend the rest of the game trying to protect that 7 point lead. If you get up on an opponent, keep scoring.

If this doesnt start to happen...if it looks like you are still operating the team like last season.

    YOUR FIRED.

Its not wishing....you make the changes or I will hire someone who will.

well the only position i'm worried that might be forced is QB. Not that we shouldnt pursue one. I definitely want one but what if ireland looks at the draft prospects and decides none of them impress. Does he draft one anyway to please Ross? Remember Bud Adams pushing Vince Young on Jeff Fisher? Thats one of my fears about the guy but youre right that until he actually does that its too early.

do you really think ross meant a no huddle run offense? because i missed that part of the Marino years. and i say it again if what ross means by explosive and marino years is a wide open passing attack then we need to find the next peyton manning because running a wide open passing attack isnt going to work with the 25th or 27th or whatever he's ranked QB. I agree that part of how you gameplan is towards the defenses strengths and weaknesses but its alsso based on your offenses strengths and weaknesses. lets see what our strngths are next year after a full offseason of player acquisition before we determine what type of offense we want. If we get RB Mark Ingram and cant land a QB DO YOU STILL WANT TO BE A wide open passing attack or would you rather ride Ingrams running skills and try to be the Ravens

  32. vt_dolfan

I think Ross used the Marino years as an example....not an edict. He wants an explosive high scoring offense...one that is entertaining, and one that will cause opposing defenses problems.

He means run and pass.....if you read CK's article...I think its fairly obvious to see what he doesnt WANT TO SEE.

    Mountain - meet molehill.

Everything last week was blown out of proportion by the media, and IMO, Ross' mistake was minimal at best.
Ross' current statement is perfectly fine and well within his rights as an owner.
The thought that owners should just keep their mouths shut all the time is ludicrous and stupid. It's their damn team. Sparano and Ireland are replaceable employees on that team. Now if Ross steps in and starts making GM decisions like Snyder and Jones, then you have a pedestal to stand on. Until then, your math currently reads 2+2=9, i.e, you're reaching.

Obviously...you cant expect us to be the Arizona Cardinals next season. But you can start moving towards that type of an offense.

I saw Chad Henne move the ball just fine in the hurry up....3-4 WR spread passing attack. At times he was almost unstoppable.

I know people want to throw him away...but you cant know for sure he isnt capable of being able to run a wide open passing attack if thats what the coaches and staff create as an offense for him to do.

He had 13 TDs and only 8 Ints when not play action passing. His QB rating when not PA passing is in the low 80's. What does that suggest?

  35. vt_dolfan

I agree...I saw nothing even REMOTELY close to a Daniel Snyder or Jerry Jones out of Ross. He said what type of offense he wants to see.

He said...this is what I want. Your the experts, now you go and figure out a way to give it to me.

Snyder and Jones say, this is what I want, and I will give you all of the pieces to do it...I will build the car...you just drive it.

    Completely different.

And Ross isnt doing anything different then any one of us would do if we were an owner.

doesnt say anything in a vacuum. you have to analyze every throw on its own merits. henne has a 80 qb rating on grass and a 63 on turf. should we bench him when we play in a dome? henne had a 100 qb rating against the afc west, 91 against the afc south, 60 against the afc north, and 77 aginst the afc west. should we bench him anytime we play the ravens or steelers? its far more complex then throwing out stats

I agree with most your points except this. If you recall Ross made a mighty big statement before the season when he compared Chad Henne to the great Marino and also said this team is ready to make a run at the SB. He put a lot of pressure on this team which left me puzzled as to why he would make such a statement.

I have been pissed at Ross for those statements, but your opinion on what he has done, and his intentions for our team and culture, have been noticed by me as well..

But check it..If i'am a coach, and my way of building a team is thru dominate defense and run game, what am I supposed to do with his comments about offensive philosophy, lol, draft a different type of player than I would have?

Idk Rush, I just don't like demands..

but like I said, I appreciate his efforts and possible upgrades to ''no life''..
