http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...convinced-bill-cowher-will-stay-off-sideline/ No way Ireland can stay on board if Ross really does want a big name coach. Especially Cowher.
I agree. And that's why we are the laughing stock of the league right now. We should all pool our money together and buy the team from this ***-clown.
Why are we the "laughing stock" of the league right now? Because we fired a coach who wasn't getting it done?
I have to believe, he knows that retaining Irish could conflict with him hiring one of the top prospects..I'am gonna let this play out..Can't we just let this play out before we bash and criticize with such vitriol...you all may be right, and if we hear that Cowher or Gruden will not come here because of Irish still in position then by all means unleash the kracken.
Except that our wonderful owner "fired" him a year ago and went flying across the country to get the new coach. Only the new coach said "no thanks" so we keep our "fired" coach and let him twist in the wind for 3/4 of a season. And then we really fired him. But we didn't fire the GM who is just as much to blame, comes across as a complete dick and will probably prevent us from hiring a top level HC.
Right, the Harbaugh situation was a cluster**** but that happened almost a year ago. Everything that you're hearing right now is just speculation and rumors going forward. I don't see how we're a laughing stock. Sparano got fired because he's led us to 3 straight losing seasons and we need to go in a different direction.
Ireland really is coming across as a ****. I am middle ground on how he has done as GM but I think if he causes issues between the coach and FO he needs to be gone.
Al Davis and Jerry Jones actually have familiarity with the game. Certainly more than Ross and Snyder. Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
No, that title would belong to the Indianapolis Colts for not having a backup plan when Peyton got injured.
Really disappointed. Sparano never had real control of this team. He was a puppet to Parcells and Ireland. We have just been set back 3 to 4 more years. Then we send a message to who ever is Tony's replacement that they still have to deal with a a$$clown for a GM. Glad I cancelled my NFL ticket this year.........
I know they know a lot. That's the point. As much as they know, they ran their franchises into the ground.
Knowing a lot doesn't equal knowing enough. A monkey uses sign language better than a Basset hound, but I wouldn't ask either for directions to the gas station. Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
So, he's no different than 31 other owners in the NFL, some of which think they know something about football when they really don't? I didn't realize that knowing something about football was a prerequisite for owning a team.
It's very simple why Ireland was kept. He has all the resources over the upcoming draft. He has spent the entire college year looking at prospects. What happens if he fires the GM today? He(Ross) has a chance of losing a lot of money he has already spent in scouting.
He is probably heading his bets. He will go after the big names coaches first and if he can't get them he will go after a young up and comer. If we get a big name everyone will be so happy they will forget about what he said about getting a young up and comer. If we can't get them it looks like he has gotten us his first choice "a young Don Shula." I will be happy with most hires, as long as we don't get Brian Billick.... That dude sucks eggs.
Ross paid $1.1 BILLION for this franchise. You don't get to be that wealthy by being stupid. A man like Ross is smart enough to surround himself with talented FO personnel and listen to their guidance. Ross may have final say on who the new HC is, but I doubt he has all that much to do with finding them. I don't really like Carl Peterson, but I deeply respect his knowledge of how to run a franchise and he doesn't sound like he plans to be involved long term. He has a lot of contacts in the NFL, is a shrewd negotiator, and could well help Ross and Ireland or a new GM put the right pieces/personnel in place. I fail to understand the gloom & doom I'm reading in this thread. Jerry Jones didn't have a clue how to run a football franchise, but within 4 years of his purchase, the Cowboys won a SB, then 2 more. His ongoing problem since then is he now THINKS he knows everything about putting together a winning team so JJ has failed to surround himself with competent advisers who would help Dallas get back on top again. I want/choose to believe Ross is going to be successful in finding the right HC/GM/etc to right this franchise and turn it around. He is smart, extremely wealthy, and knows well that the way to put butts in the seats of Sun Life Stadium is to put a winning team on the field. I for one, am going to take the positive point of view and give the man a chance. Honestly I suspect the timing of this firing Tony had more to do with Ross wanting to be on top of the field in securing a HC. Some won't like this, but we canned Tony right after KC canned Haley, rumor mill has it KC wants Jeff Fisher. Could be Ross does too and figured he had a better chance of luring JF to Miami if there was an actual vacancy to fill.
And here I thought Ross was turning the corner. The only thing I can think of is that a lot of coaches prefer a GM in place when they get to a team. I know the 49ers rushed to get one before hiring Harbaugh. Ross could always fire Ireland if someone like Cowher wants I guess. Who knows. I gave up trying to figure out this team a long ****ing time ago.
Article starts with a false premise—taking a joke seriously—and descends from there. Because firing Sparano now means Ireland can’t be fired at any point after, right? This is not Gregg Rosenthal’s finest analytical moment.
This is about to get ugly. He can't keep ireland. I don't even think Ireland wants to be here, according to many of his comments. This will be a nightmare. No accomplished coach will come here. Brian Schott will lead me to canceling my Sunday Ticket and Season tickets. Please save us little baby tebow!
if you think for one minute that if they call cowher, gruden, fisher, reid, coughlin, billick, whomever ross is lusting after, and that coach says i want all the power or i want to bring in my own gm, ross should and will toss ireland out with the trash...if ross is serious about a splash and sexy coaches, he can't be tied to ireland. plain and simple...ross is probably an idiot on some level, but he can't be THAT dumb to have gotten where he is in life...to repeat: big name, sexy coach wants it all, ireland is gone. g-o-n-e. gone
Agreed...the doom and gloom is uncalled for. Keeping Ireland for now is the best of both worlds. They can hold onto his draft scouting / info, if a coach doesnt want a GM or have their own guy Ireland is ready to plug in, if a name says "I wont take the job unless I can bring in my own guy", theres no law that he cant fire Ireland. The latter scenario might be the worst in terms of PR - but if its best for the team who gives a ****. Just let it all shake out. The season isnt even over yet.
Evidently you did not watch last nights MNF St. Louis is the laughing stock of the league and has been since Spagnuolo arrived. 7 shots from the 1 yard line and you have one of the better RBs in the league in Steven Jackson and you try 5 passes, a Qb bootleg with a QB that has a high ankle spain and THEN you bring in Jackson for the score ? Rams threw the red flag on an onside kick that went 7 yards and no seahawk was close to it but Spagnuolo said Seahawks touched it first ? LOL ,no, we are not the laughing stock of the league by far.
I just found out about the firing moments ago (I have been really involved in studying for final exams) and I was pretty shocked. A few things are evident from the press conference that I saw. 1) Ross looked glum and even rattled at the beginning. He was stuttering and fumbling to find the right words. He was obviously uncomfortable and had his eyes pointed down toward the podium when Ireland was speaking. He almost looked like a man in submission. 2) When Ross initially mentioned the coaching change Ireland pursed his lips almost as if to say; "I really don't wanna hear this". Just on a hunch I think that neither Ireland nor Ross was fully on board with this and Ross is being told what to do by another trusted source around him who knows football. Their non verbal motions and actions at the press conference were confusing and didn't really go along with what was being said. It confused me a little. They really didn't look decisive in their verbals and non verbals. I was really puzzled by that. It almost makes me wonder if there isn't more going on behind the scenes than they are willing to mention. (just my take on what I saw) One question. . . why now? Why didn't Ross fire Tony when he lost 7 straight? Why fire Tony now? They must have the inside scoop on another coach or something. NFL Owners are a lot like hot women, they are always after the bigger, better deal. Typical Ross, when he isn't trying to get Harbaugh behind Tony's back and playing him for a fool - he fires Tony a week before Christmas. I wonder what is really going on? Any one else think the timing is odd?
What people like to forget is that without the Wildcat, we probably would have had a losing season in 2008 as well. Tony showed nothing as far as game-time coaching. Timeouts in the first few minutes of many halves, poor clock management late in the game. NO two-minute game on either side of the ball, many games where we showed ZERO emotion, the list goes on. Tony was in over his head from the start. The former OL coach who couldn't get a strong OL with 4 years and two 1st round linemen picked during those 4 years... He sealed his own fate. Ross gave him a chance last year, and he blew it. I agree that Ross SHOULD have fired him in January, but if Harbaugh had signed at took the Phins to 10-3 and a division title, who would really care what happened to Sparano?
