Ed McMahon was actually a pretty class act. An old friend of mine and his group won Star Search one year. Part of their prize was a recording session at Sony in NYC and $10,000. They were put up, in a horrible hotel. There was a pool of blood in the elevator for example. Then they get to Sony, and the studio they were to record in was the oldest one they had. It was actually being used for storage at the time. The equipment was antiquated and the producer was an intern who didn't know what he was doing. About a month later, my buddy gets a call. It was Ed. He wanted to know how the recording went. They told him and got pissed and said he'd call them back. A day later, he calls back, telling them they have a check for $5,000 coming (which it did) and he made arrangements to have them record at a local studio in Orlando. Pretty cool.
Sad to hear. I know he had been having a lot of medical and financial problems. Saw him interviewed on something not to long ago.
Wow, it makes me wonder how time really flies by... He touched a lot of people while in his TV career... God bless his "here's Johnny" soul...
