Richard Wright, the keyboardist of Pink Floyd, passed away Monday September 15, 2008 at age 65.
Wright was a part of a group called Sigma 6, when that group joined up with Syd Barrett to form Pink Floyd in 1965. Wright was with Pink Floyd until getting fired from the group by Roger Watters during the Wall recording sessions in 1979. Wright did peform in the 1980-81 Wall concert tour, as a session player. After Watters had declared Pink Floyd over after the 1983 Final Cut had been recorded (without Wright), David Gilmour decided to keep Pink Floyd as an active band, bringing Wright back to to the band. Wright was back to record on the final two Pink Floyd albumns. Wright also worked on Gilmour's 2006 solo albumn.
Wright was trained as a jazz keyboardist. His jazz influences made a big effect on the overall Pink Floyd sound.
Wright's death sadly eliminates the possibility of any future Pink Floyd material or shows being done.
