Normally I'd think you're kidding, but this just makes too much sense. That's why Revis himself hasn't show up for the negotiations. He's busy being turned into Sexy Rexy Poop.
Excuse the hell outta me for posting something about an important player for our biggest rival. No one forces you to read it, much less post in it. In summary, feel free to do squat-thrusts in a cucumber patch.
Maybe the owner will take the price in the middle and pay him. NOT!!! I hope he sits out the entire year or is so pissed at what he makes, he takes many plays off.
TSX_NFL: CB Darrelle Revis, schedule to make $1 million in 2010, is seeking a contract worth around $160 million with $30 million in guarantees, the #NFL If true, nuts.
I think it is safe to say it is true.........how do you think this ends up Alen.....he get 16, more, less, holds out the year? plays for current contract?
just trying to help you on your lack of thread posting skills. there is a room for jets stuff and I'll go there if I want to read jets stuff don't want to see it in the main. obviously the mods agreed. also I am entitled to post in any thread if I please to do so thanks anyway.....
I think it's fairly obvious that the issue here is a difference of opinion on market value. The Revis camp is claiming that Asumagha's contract represents the market value for the best CB b/c he has the highest contract. The Jets believe that Asumagha's contract is an anomaly or an outlier and that the real market value is represented by the 5 next highest contracts which top out at under $10 million per year. I don't see how Rex can believe that an open meeting will solve this impasse. An the owners would be idiots to bring a bunch of players in that will almost certainly be on Revis' side. My understanding is that the Jets have offered Revis a contract that averages about $12 million per year. IMO this is a fair offer and it represents the true market value for the best CB in the league. I don't expect that Revis will ever agree and I think that the only way this issue will be resolved is if Revis relents. My impression is that Revis is prepared to sit out the season. I think we'll find out if that's true either right before or right after the first regular season game.
It might even be smart for revis to sit out this season. Because i'm damn sure once he is a free-agent next year someone will overpay for him and he'll be making the money he wants. Wait 1 year and make 16mil or sign a contract this year for 12mil that will pretty much leave him as a Jest the rest of his career.
Two problems with that plan. First, he won't be a FA next year. He still has three years on his contract. Second, the odds right now are that there won't be a season next year as that CBA negotiations loom.

dude...maybe you're not aware of this, but there is a way to make a point without be a dick about it. I didn't even disagree with you that it should be moved, that's what the mods are for and I'm glad the thread found its rightful place. It's posters like you that make lurkers and people that want to contribute something to our fellow fans here shy away. Not because they're afraid of ol' Killaphins: thePhins.com Resident Internet Tough Guy, but because they feel like they have to defend every post they make from people like you. Would it have been so hard to say "thanks, but this could go into the AFC East Rivals section."? You make a lot of good points, and I know you're generally a well respected poster. Then again, you'll probably say something along the lines of "I don't care if people here respect me or not." Which is fine. However I think 90% of your points, which are valid, get drowned out by your belligerent tone and condiscending attitude.
On one hand I totally agree with Revis that he should be paid a lot more and I can understand him using some leverage to get a new deal, however, his contract demands are just stupid. He doesn't have the leverage to get that kind of deal. If the Jest have offered him about 20 mil guaranteed and a deal averaging like 11 million a year he needs to shut up and sign that.
