http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7582646?MSNHPHMA This is Parcells quote: "I think I probably will do it," Parcells said. "The job description is to be the football operations overseer. We still have a little work to do, but I don't think it's anything major. I don't expect any real deal-breaker. I don't think there will be any major hangups." Here's also a link from nfl.com about the same story: http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8053f3e9&template=without-video&confirm=true
The guy wins everywhere he goes because he knows how to evaluate talent. He's always been an "in your face" type which not alot of people like him for that. IMO I think he would of made a great G.M. for us. But, only time will tell...
From that quote, he really doesn't seem much interested in the Falcons team. Sounds like he's still keeping his options open.
Well let's see now... Cowher is a no-deal for another year at least... Parcells is going to the Falcons... That leaves just Marty available that wanted 1 of the 3... Seems you all are stuck with CAM, which BTW, I am happy about...
Unless Parcells is able to get a "Parcells" coach and a "Parcells" GM for the team, there's no guarantee that he'll make an impact. Someone mentioned in another thread...Randy Mueller and Nick Saban weren't on the same page. Saban wanted "this kind" of player and instead, Mueller got "that kind" of player. Same thing could end up happening in Atlanta if Parcells does take the job
This is bad news. Parcells can stock a team with talent. Look at his past record with other teams. He is the reason the Cowboys are going to the Superbowl this year.
Not at all! But I know that this team needed to start a rebuilding phase 3 years ago and no one else had the balls to do it! There have been many a great coach that were tagged as "incompetent" over the decades... Hell Jimmy Johnson came straight from a college HC and took a team that was 3-13 and finished his season with 1-15... His only win came in week 9 and then lost the rest... Now am I saying that CAM is going to make the history books? NO! But I am saying that you can't judge a man by his first season alone... Especially with the injuries and lack of depth this team has currently... And if we do get another win or 2, then I know that I will be VERY impressed to say the least with the situation that this team is currently in!!!
If we got Parcells, how many would want to fire him next year for Cowher? Endless change is all some want. I say stick with Cam for at least one more year.
I find it funny in the CNNSI article I read, that he talks about joining the team, finding a GM and working from there. Last I checked, Rich McKay wasn't fired yet lol.
Anyone thats happy to have Mueller and Cameron another year better get some coffee and wake up. Thats why I am tired of Wayne owning this team. The guy continues to let morons run the show here. Mueller can't draft to save his life.
Before I go into this topic, I want to give you a chance to do some research on his drafting... Let me know when you complete the research and then we can have a discussion...
His drafts w/ the Saints: 2000: #2: Darren Howard, DE #4: Terrelle Smith, FB #5: Chad Morton, RB #5: Tutan Reyes, OL #5: Austin Wheatley, TE #6: Marc Bulger, QB #6: Michael Hawthorne, DB #7: Kevin Houser, LS 2001: #1: Deuce McAlister, RB #3: Sedrick Hodge, LB #3: Kenny Smith, DE-DT #4: Moran Norris, FB
If this is accurate, the odds likely dropped off after news of ownership upheaval broke. Imo this represents "one" of the potential boats to see our SOS that we may have waived off, granted its a tuna boat but clearly seaworthy, and likely heading to port. Hey Nubs! Glad to see ya bud!
I can relate to the doubt on Cameron because I absolutely believe you CAN tell alot about a coach and measure his effectiveness in one year. You look at decisions he's made during situations, his ability to game plan, whether he shows the ability/willingness to adjust to problems other teams are throwing at him in game, his effectiveness in judging personnel he has available to him etc. I've seen things that make me wonder about his effectiveness to be a good coach based on those types of things. Is my opinion the end all for whether he should stay.... of course not. I just hope they take all this into consideration while reviewing the teams performance this year when deciding rather than just thinking "hey anyone deserves at least 2 years.... just because." As for Mueller and the drafting comment you lost me there. The man has proven himself at the GM position. Is he the best ever, maybe not. Is he the worst ever? Definitely not! Has he proven himself to be competent at the job? Yes he has. I still don't see the where the viewpoint that Mueller has anything to do with the personell mess here when he just got full control to rebuild a team. A GM's work is limited by salary cap and # of draft picks. He had what seems to be a good draft and we had little to work with in FA this year. IMO Mueller is one of the small signs of hope this franchise has.
I am curious as how you can support Randy and not CAM... Granted, Randy has a very nice history and one should support him, but to not support... Well let's change that to "NOT give CAM a chance" is a concern... Again, this is nothing more than supporting proven commodities and damning the rookies on every level... How can you pass judgement on this head coach, without doing the same to every HC that started with this record... Again, every HC that has come into this game started with a losing record for the most part. Those that succeeded out of the gates, rode the talent that the previous coach left them... However, they failed after a year or 2 as well... We all know it takes a GM and a HC that can work together, to make a successful team... However, it takes time for that to happen... And THAT is what most are not willing to do out here... GIVE IT TIME!!!!
Look I know your view very well FIN and it's fine. I know you are entrenched in it and that's fine. I'm entrenched the other direction. I've said time and time again it has nothing to do with the record of this team but the process of coaching and many individual decisions and aspects I've seen that trouble me. You can have a winning record and still have a bad coach. As a matter of fact that's the main reason we got stuck with Wanny too long. A review should always be about assessing the process and whether that one player or coach either HELPED or HINDERED a situation no matter how good or how bad the situation may be overall. If the admin. of this team reviews Cam and feel he did well them I'm fine with it BUT I seriously disagree with a lot of people on here that feel he deserves a pass because it's his first year and that he had to deal with issues. That's not what he should be judged on. If they keep him based on that then I'd have a serious issue with the decision. As for Mueller, again, I'll say that he had a good draft and he was limited in FA by salary cap and available FA's as to how much of this roster he could turnover. To me he has shown taking a good approach to rebuilding while Cam's approach to coaching has not impressed me at all.
Let's agree on this. If Bill Parcells stands up before the S. Fla. media and says that Cam is a good coach, then I'm willing to buy in.
Yes Randy is known to draft well in the opening rounds but after that..., well er..., everybody knows it is almost a crap shoot... Save T.Brady in the fifth..., Piola knwew from the very second that he was gold...
Maybe Bill would bring Carthon in coach our Defense and leave Cam for a year..., and well there that outside posibility of Garrett coming back at Head Coach with Carthon at the helm of the Defense...?
