According to the web site, authorities in Fulton County, Georgia have decided to pursue criminal charges against Marshall. Specifically, misdemeanor battery charges were filed on September 10, stemming from an alleged incident that occurred on March 4, 2008 between Marshall and his then-girlfriend, Rasheeda Watley. An initial court date in November or December is expected. Coincidentally, the Broncos travel to Atlanta for a game against the Falcons on November 16. ProFootballTalk.com - Rumor Mill
wow, waited six months to go after the guy. I guess they figured, "lets see what happend when he plays again, 15+ receptions, lets go after him, otherwise, he aint worth it."
Yeah and they're considering suspending him again. Bad deal for Marshall here. According to many reports, he has been trying to change so much. I know he talked about being a businessman this off-season and how he looks up to John Lynch. Marshall had been hanging out with a bad crew and he is finally letting them go which is why he likely is getting charged 6 months later. At least he's changing, that's a big positive. I hope he can keep a clean image after this.
Why would they consider suspending him again when they already knew about the charges before they gave him the original suspension?
Because charges have been filed. If they wouldn't have been filed, a suspension wouldn't have been necessary.
If the NFL already knew about it and knew that the charges would eventually be filed, I dont think they would of given him a punishment and then allow it to be reduced like that. If they knew he had pending issues then I would at least think they'd make him suspended for the original 3 games.
No, I believe that these charges weren't expected to be filed. It has been six months since the incident. Now, out of nowhere, charges are filed. Since they were not expecting this, they have to re-visit the situation.
His lawyer told the NFL about the situation so I'm sure the league looked at the possibility of the charges being filed. Filing them 6 month later certainly looks like his ex is looking to cash in though.
Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. Remember, there were 10 other police phone calls that the NFL wasn't aware prior to his suspension. There was also a couple speeding tickets I think. If they were aware of it, they probably did look at the possibility but did not expect it. I agree.
Well his lawyer is on record saying the NFL has been aware of it since day 1. Charge finally filed against Marshall - The Denver Post I'm not a lawyer, but if the broad in question waited this long to file the charges (battery, keep in mind. 6 months after any physical evidence went byebye) then I would think she saw that he just came back strong and knows he can't get into trouble because of his situation with the suspension. Therefore, she probably thinks that she can file these charges and hope that he'll just want to settle out of court (pay her off) to eliminate the possibility of getting convicted of anything.
Interesting. It also says that he isn't likely to receive any suspension but I heard otherwise today. You may be right. We'll see how it plays out.
Yea I heard Michael Smith say otherwise. But if you ask me who would know more about the case between Michael Smith and Marshall's attorney then I'd have to go with the obvious. Smith just said he may get an additional suspension but didn't bother to add why. His statement sounds more like an opinion from an outsider. Marshall's lawyer has to be pretty damn good with how he worked Goodell and the system so far.
I heard it from Smith as well and it did sound like an opinion. I may have taken it as a fact though, my bad. I definitely agree that his lawyer has done a great job working with Goodell, all the crap that Marshall did and he only got one game suspension. Hell, he even got it reduced lol.
He's like the Jewish version of Johnny C. The battery charge thing sounds like what happened to Moss last year.
Yea thats what I read too. He sure uses words like "could" and "may" a lot doesn't he? Another opinion piece if you ask me. Didn't offer any facts. I hate how ESPN writers put "REPORT" on their columns and try to pass it off like it's an official statement from the NFL.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league was aware of the allegations in the Atlanta incident at the time it suspended Marshall, prior to the start of this season. He added that Marshall could face more disciplinary action from the league, depending on the outcome of the case. "We have been aware of these potential charges," Aiello said. "We will continue to monitor the case and review it under our policy as appropriate."
