Assuming Fitz isn't back again, what might/should the Dolphins do for their #2 QB behind Tua or Watson (if that were to happen)?

Immediate thoughts? No, no, no, no and no. Re-sign Fitz (ideal) or draft a rookie to backup Tua (scary).

I think that they need to wait the free agency market out and sign a cheap veteran once the dust settles for 2021. Then when there's more cap space to go around, make a longer term plan a year from now. For 2021, assuming that they don't trade for Watson, its Tua or bust, sink or swim.

I agree. With the way names are being thrown around and so many QB's finding new homes, I wouldn't be in an immediate rush to sign anyone. Because once you do that, Fitz is definitely gone and he's likely better than whoever you'd bring in. So I'm content waiting it out and see what happens with Watson.

It's a crazy offseason- we're 4-5 months from kickoff and we have no idea who any of our QBs will be at this point. Yet we're supposed to be a playoff team?!? Luckily I'm finally at the age where this sort of thing doesn't really bother me anymore.

I wouldn’t want anyone off that list. Fitz or Alex Smith would both be better options.

I had read an article that the presumed favorite for the backup role was Brian Hoyer because the Dolphins wanted someone that would make Tua the clear and obvious starter. I am not going to lie, that made me furious. I cannot fathom bringing someone into the organization for the sole reason that they are worse than Tua.

I think that Tua has a Tua problem. He needs to play better in order for all of these talks to go away. I think that a Tua problem could very quickly become a Brian Flores/Chris Grier problem if they stand by idly. I do think that Tua has given them reason to at least look at other options. Now how drastic of a step, Flo and Co. take has to do with their confidence in Tua's growth.

Just looking at that list of QBs hurts my head. They are all essentially known commodities. They are clearly nobody's answer and an obvious fallback option.

Now again, let me be very clear. I would be willing to make a very strong offer for Watson for the simple reason it is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get an elite QB like Watson in his prime. This is 100% about Watson and has nothing to do with Tua. With that being said, I understand that there is a very, very high likelihood Tua is our starting QB in 2021 - which is fine. I do think that Tua had moments. I would absolutely not go and run out and sign any of those QBs. Honestly, I think they are all more or less interchangeable to me. We have so many picks in the draft. I think I would target a guy like Ian Book or Kellen Mond in the third round. I think both of these guys have potential to be more than just backups. I think that this would be a strong organizational middle ground. I do not think either of these guys are marquee enough of names for fans to demand that they be put into a game if Tua is struggling. But also, we avoid a real problem that a guy like Hoyer, Brissett, or Taylor could bring - we could find ourselves in the middle of the season with the stark realization that we have nothing at QB.
