ASHBURN, Va. -- Washington Redskins second-round draft pick Fred Davis did not show up for minicamp practice Sunday, prompting the team to send security officials to find the tight end.

"Everybody was scouring," coach Jim Zorn said after practice. "Nobody heard from him, so there was one of two scenarios. Either there was some real trouble and we needed to find him, or he screwed up. I haven't even got to talk to him yet. I know he has been found. I believe it is more in the 'I screwed up' category."

This is not going to help the league's image if he is in trouble.

I'm one of those guys who wanted him. If he's properly coached and motivated, he's the next Antonio Gates.

Needless to say, if he's going to do this on a regular basis, we're better off without him.

Okay lets not say he's the next Antonio Gates. Gates went undrafted and is huge with a big Vert.

I believe Fred Davis has the same skill set and the ability to be just as successful as Gates.

    :hi5:..

Not the first rookie to miss RMTC, but going incommunicado is odd, normally they clear it through the HC/GM before they sit out.

True but I don't think Davis could be the Red zone threat Gates is.

He had 8 TDs on that injury-ridden USC squad. Put him in the right offense and he'll dominate... if he gets the right attitude.

I think he will be a great fit for the Redskins if he is motivated to play. With all those weapons now Davis should be a nice compliment to Cooley.

Desides, if I had a nickel for every Te like Davis who has come into the NFL I'd be quite wealthy right now, last year the Golden Boy was Greg Olsen with the Bears, and they drafted Kellen Davis this year, these guys are a dime o' dozen.

Look at the Te's who really make an impact, they tend to be overachievers/came out of nowhere types of players, the last truly great Te prospect was Tony Gonzalez.

I think Carlson will be the best TE. He is very well rounded.

I think he will be one of the top three Te from this draft, he will have to get by on effort and that always makes a player better IMO.

I disagree highly on the Olsen comparison. Olsen was underutilized and outperformed Clark on numerous occasions. Olsen will still turn out to be a top ten TE in the league eventually.

Yeah..maybe.... I liked Greg Olsen coming out of the "U", but these guys can go into the NFL and just disappear.

And Olsen even managed to show up at Rookie Mini Camp...
