Record fish caught with Barbie rod

calphinNew MemberOPWILKES COUNTY, N.C. — A backyard angler has bagged the state’s record channel catfish using a 2½-foot hot pink Barbie Doll rod and reel.
David Hayes caught the record-breaking fish from a private pond while fishing early this month with his granddaughter, Alyssa, 3. The 21-pound, 1-ounce catfish measured 32 inches long — 2 inches longer than the Barbie Doll fishing pole.
amazing thing to me is the state record in N.C is 21 pounds. I would have guessed it would be much higher.

calphinNew MemberIts a really cool story. Most people with kids have probably bought/used one of these little poles. The truly amazing thing is that he landed that fish with that cheap pole. They are made cheap, and have the cheapest line known to man, unless he changed the line at some point. Still, really cool story!!

padre31Luxury BoxCalphin, you do realize that the child with barbie rod hooked the catfish, and the guy took the rod from the kid right..?:lol:
As for the catfish's size, in NC catfishing is done late at night and the fish aren't really weighed very often, and if a larger one had been caught, chances are good they never reported it.

21 pound fish, my kids would have been getting wet. daddy would give them a slight shove into the water and steal the pole.:wink2:
