Watching the Ravens against the Redskins now; it hardly seems fair, Flacco, Boldin Rice and Lee Evans with that Defense. STRONG contenders, this Baltimore team. And OT, how bitter is it for a Dolphins' fan to watch John Beck to Anthony Armstrong for 34 yards on a TD drive?
The ESPN talking point for this game was definitely "beck is a hidden miracle". Even at the end of the first half, they were saying Beck had more promise, even after his pick, they were iffy, then he finally had a decent drive and Gruden explodes with praise and confidence that Beck will be the #1 guy and a good QB this year. <sigh> I guess they need to talk about something though
Beck has looked just like he always has—hot and cold. Inconsistent. Grossman has looked bad though.
I watched Beck in his first game and really, he's not entirely different than what he was in Miami. He's a bit more calmer, but not enough. He got pressured a few times and was flushed easily. When he had a natural pocket, he threw quick game a lot and Shanahan relied on constraints a ton. I was not impressed but that's just my two cents.
Yeah, you're right, Beck looks the same. Not an NFL starter, IMO. Why did we release Armstrong? I'm fuzzy on that. He looks like the real deal.
Beck looked better than when he was here(hope so)at least now he seems to be able get the snap from center, maybe with a better supporting cast he can do something.
Well since its only PS I'll try to withhold my feelings and just state what I see. John's game against the Colts was Dink and Dunk and Roll Out by design as stated by not only him but the Shanahans where as this game last night was way more open down field thus John threw the long ball .... first pass to Anthony for 33 yards on the money! In 2 games with 27 passes hes had 3 I'd call bad and one dump off that also had a guy open down field. As for standing in the pocket versus getting flushed one only needs to look at this last game to see that is just so much bs, imvho, as he delivered on 3 plays with people in his face and around his feet. In 9 drives he's led the skins to 30 points over these last 2 games. with a 70+ comp% and a 99 QB rating. As for the Ravens they seen ready to go yet I would also add that Mike Shanahan and the Redskins are going to surprise many folks imho. He states he can win with either guy so if he picks John to start you might be surprised by just how well he will do. On a side note with both the Fins and skins playing TB it will be fun to see which team's QBs score more points.
I really liked Baltimore last year as far as a Super Bowl contender and still think they're a great football team, it's just I'm not sure about Flacco. He is a solid enough QB and young so still plenty of time to grow as a player, I just have a hard time at the moment seeing him as good enough to lift the Lombardi. Watching the Ravens playoff game two years ago it seemed the coaches didn't trust him and even Sanchez was given more responsibility and seemed to have more trust from his coaches. Still will be a good team and expect Rice to go crazy this year, maybe Flacco improves and takes the next step.
Under the radar move - Vontae Leach. This is a guy who really helped the Texan's running game the past few years, and he may help Rice just as much.
