Grier should be fired “on the spot” right now... do u want this clown making more picks like Minkah and Harris?

Well, 0-16 would be the perfect bookend to balance out the perfect season.

Rosen looked alot like Tannehill there. Standing around... Holding the ball

Rosen isn't the guy. Definitely need to pick a QB next year.

Lamar Jackson without a helmet on reminds me of Samuel L. Jacksons character in Unbreakable & Glass.

I knew it was going to be bad, but I didn’t expect it to be this bad.

That’s what you get when you trade your best player.

It’s going to be a long season.

There was much more wrong with Miami today than just missing Tunsil.

Laremy Tunsil would not have made a significant difference in this game. **** significant... he wouldn't have even made a measurable difference. Same with Stills.

The ownership/management tanked the season for us by getting rid of all our talent.

There was that report that some players would mutiny if Tunsil was traded. Perhaps that's what happened.

    LMAO...

You put Rosen in trailing by 40+ points
The OL has done nothing to protect the QB all day
The defense KNOWS you're going to throw the ball
Rosen has to roll out to try and buy him some time since the OL isn't giving him any time
He throws an interception in an obvious pass play

    And Rosen isn't the guy?

That's like handing a soldier an M4 with only half a magazine, tell him to charge a machinegun nest with no cover from 100 yards out and act surprised when he's shot and killed.

lol thats not what happened here... wake up... we are slow, we dont have much talent, and we have a career backup as our starting quarterback. If you didnt see this coming 5 weeks ago, then youre delusional. Same result would have happened had Tunsil been here.

I don't think many people expected the offense to do much. Our WR/RB groups have good potential, but OL (Tunsil aside) was not great and QB was a void.

But I think people - rightly - expected more from the defense. That was an embarrassing let down. Flores is a D guy, but that unit got boatraced. We saw very little improvement from ... anyone. This was about as bad a start as anyone could have predicted.

The only thing we should be excited about is 2020 and 2021.. we have a boatload if picks and this sacrificial year will set us up for the future.

We can rebuild the defense next year instantly with Chase Young and Dylan Moses.. or we can take the best qb prospect available and take a linebacker with the second first round pick..

Guys, I'm shocked by this thread. Perhaps it wasn't but this sort of result should have been obvious. Vegas was all over us being at the bottom, our OL was bad to start with and then we brought in a ton of new players this week.

As has been said a lot over recent weeks we're tanking this season. We're going to lose a lot. Expect, and instead, try to spot the highlights. But don't expect wins.

We need to root for Houston to fall apart, too - maybe we can end up with both picks in the top 5.

If I had Adam Sandler’s remote from Click, I would definitely fast forward through this season.

You just don’t win football games with an OL as bad as ours. You also don’t win football games with a defense this bad. By all accounts, our defense has some talent which has me concerned about a defensive guru getting pummeled like that.

    Absolutely correct.
Rushing correllates with being in the lead as time grows short.
Passing correllates with being behind as time grows short.
Excessive utilization of one over the other is a response to and not a CAUSE OF the score.

I just saw a highlight where Jackson literally had 17 seconds to throw. Of course Fitzpatrick is going to stick with Brown for 17 seconds.

Honestly I'd take back everything bad I said about the Tunsil trade, because I'd try and trade that #2 pick to a QB hungry team who wants to jump up for a ransom.

I realize we were supposed to lose a lot this season. I get that...But what happened to "building the trenches"? I thought that was our goal this offseason? Build the trenches? It became a really annoying catch phrase that people started throwing around all over the place. As if they had football tourettes syndrome or something. It was almost as if that was the only thing they could blurt out when talking about the upcoming offseason. Then....We play today...and we are actually a whole lot worse "in the trenches" haha.

If Dan Marino was dead, he'd be spinning in his grave now. Thankfully he's not, so maybe he's just sat in Corporate Hospitality feeling a bit miserable. But not spinning.

I know this is all going to fall on deaf ears, but I'm going to take the time to type it all out anyhow.

Rushing doesn't matter? Teams only rush in the 4th quarter to run out the clock? Ok...

    Baltimore's first possession.
    Rush for 49 yards
    Pass for 7 yards
    Rush for 11 yards
    Pass for 3 yards
    Rush for 13 yards
    Rush for 4 yards
    Rush for 1 yard
    Rush for 1 yard (TD)

    8 plays; 7 rushes, 1 pass

    Miami's first possession
    Pass incomplete
    Pass for 12 yards
    Rush for 4 yards
    Pass intercepted

    4 plays; 3 passes, 1 rush

    Baltimore's second possession
    Pass for 49 yards, TD

    9 total plays; 7 rushes, 2 passes

    Miami's second possession
    Pass incomplete
    Pass for 12 yards
    Rush for 1 yard
    Rush for -8 yards
    Punt

    4 plays; 2 pass, 2 rush (Total 8 plays; 5 passes, 3 rushes)

    Baltimore's third possession
    Rush for 4 yards
    Rush for 3 yards
    Pass for 83 yards, TD

    3 plays; 2 rushes, 1 pass (Total 12 plays; 9 rushes 3 passes)

    Miami's third possession
    Rush for -3 yards
    Pass for 26 yards
    Pass incomplete
    Pass incomplete
    Punt

    4 plays; 3 passes, 1 rush (Total 12 plays; 8 passes, 4 rushes)

At this point, we're at 2:24 left in the FIRST quarter. There's still ALOT of football left to be played. Does Miami still continue make an effort to even TRY and run the ball like Baltimore has? Let's continue, shall we?

    Baltimore's fourth possession
    Rush for 3 yards
    Pass for 9 yards
    Rush for 5 yards
    Rush for 14 yards
    Rush for 9 yards
Rush for 2 yards (End of 1st quarter)
    Pass for 33 yards TD

    7 plays; 5 rushes, 2 passes (Total 19 plays; 14 rushes, 5 passes)

    Miami's fourth possession
    Rush for -1 yards
    Pass for 49 yards
    Rush for -1 yards
    Pass incomplete

    4 plays; 2 rushes, 2 passes (Total 16 plays; 10 passes, 6 rushes)

    Baltimore's fifth possession
    Pass attempt (sacked)
    Rush for 10 yards
    Rush for 0 yards
    Punt

    3 plays, 2 rushes, 1 pass (Total 22 plays; 16 rushes, 6 passes)

Miami turnover on punt; Baltimore drive continues
    Rush for 2 yards
    Pass for 3 yards
    Pass for 5 yards, TD

    3 plays; 2 passes, 1 rush (Total 25 plays; 17 rushes, 8 passes)

Take a small pause right here for a moment...what has Baltimore done on each and every one of their possessions? They have rushed the ball on each of their possessions more than they have passed it. What has Miami done on each of their possessions? They've passed the ball more than they have rushed it.

Now I'm going to stop here. If I didn't have a life, I would continue with the rest of this game. Furthermore, I would go on to illustrate each and every game this weekend to demonstrate that running the ball equates to winning. Running the ball isn't a tactic to just run out the clock. Those of you who subscribe to that nonsense truly don't know football. You're like that modern man that hires somebody to fix the washing machine, dryer or anything around the house instead of fixing it yourself.

(edit, missed 1 pass in my first tabulations...add one pass and subtract one rush from Baltimore's totals)

Hey.. first of all kudos for actually taking the time to look at data. However, there is something called "cherry picking" stats which you're doing. For example, you say you can illustrate your claim that running the ball leads to winning for "each and every game this weekend to demonstrate that running the ball equates to winning".

OK.. so try the same thing with KC vs. Jags game. Look at the play-by-play:
    https://www.espn.com/nfl/playbyplay?gameId=401127931

    Drives by KC:
1st drive (ends in TD): 2 pass, 1 rush
2nd drive (ends in FG): 4 pass, 1 rush
3rd drive (ends in TD): 4 pass, 2 rush
4th drive (ends in FG): 4 pass, 2 rush
5th drive (ends in FG): 8 pass, 2 rush
    etc..

So clearly what you said is not true. And of course there's variation in run/pass ratio for teams that win games. I never claimed that ALL the difference in run/pass ratio between winning and losing teams was in the 4th. I said it was primarily there, meaning that if you actually did take the time to tally up all those stats (which I think a computer is better suited to doing!) you'd find exactly what my program found.

Also.. when you get a chance to watch the game, you'll see that today's game was just a total crap-fest by our defense. I mean ineptitude on a huge level. THAT is what stands out, not the percentage of rushing attempts etc..

Finally, I wouldn't make the claim that people who disagree with you simply "don't know football", especially when you're making testable statements that are being shown to not be true.

I don't mind losing this game or even a bunch of games this year. I am prepared for a season of losing and I can handle that.

What I can't handle is being the laughingstock of the league. You guys can be happy with tanking like this. I can't. This team is historically bad.

No one is happy, because we don’t have a good team to root for so this season is a waste.. but we have a lot to look forward to in the future with our picks and some of our young talent. We can fix this fast, but the first step is getting rid of Grier. Hopefully this season will be enough to convince Ross to do so.

So we can all keep track of when it truly becomes historically bad:

If you use raw "points scored" or "points allowed", then the worst offense in NFL history was the 1992 Seattle Seahawks with 7.357 points per game and the worst defense was the 1966 New York Giants with 35.786 points allowed per game.

If however you compare to the rest of the league (this adjusts for era), then the worst offense in NFL history was the 1990 NE Patriots with a z-score of -2.4792 while the worst defense was the 1981 Baltimore Colts with a z-score of -3.1962.

So those are the benchmarks. Oh, and of course any 0-16 season will be remembered. Still.. it's really hard to be historically bad so IMO we won't get any of those records (hopefully!!).

I did. I did not watch the game. When you're watching another game with friends and you see the ticker say 28-0 in the middle of the 2nd quarter I couldn't not comment on it. Especially since I read that people thought we were actually going to win.
