    For discussion:

Who do you will be the starter this season Starks or Odrick? We all know he got the start last season then he was out for the season with an injury. But what are your thoughts on this? Who starts??

Starks. Odrick started last year because Starks was the starting NT week 1 against the Bills. I certainly think Odrick will get his fair share of snaps though.

    Starks..

Odrick needs to work on making his feet work as good as his hands..

Starks starts, but by the end of the season Odrick has as many, if not more, snaps as Starks.

Jared Odrick might be our second best pass rusher. Not sure if he will be listed as a starter, but I think he makes a bigger impact than Starks this year.

I don't think he makes a bigger impact, but I think he could end up with more sacks. Starks will be just as great in 2009 as he is in 2011 IMO. He's a perfect 3-4 end.

I wouldn't go that far. Starks makes most of his big plays as a DT playing inside most of the time.

What a great argument to have. We have quality depth at the DL, and in particular DE. Odrick and McD would be starters on most teams. Merling might be a starter elsewhere and guys like Baker, Fields and Kearse would be guys that rotate in on most teams. This is a wonderful argument to have to be having. In the ideal world, we trade Merling off and keep Baker and Fields and hope that Kearse makes the PS...

I think that Starks is very valuable to us and what name is used on the 'starting roster' won't really tell the truth about how and who we use. I think on paper Starks is the 'starter' and Odrick is not, but it could be right either way you write it down. I just wish we had say a FS or OG situation on the roster that was this rich !!

If I had to choose, I'd say Starks stays the 'starter' but it won't really matter. Starks knows that guys like Odrick, Merling, McD, Fields and Baker keep him in the league longer...

All the starting front 7 have. Langford, Soliai, et al. Wake and JT have one tackle each. What do you expect when they play so few snaps?

When the regular season nickel pass rush is assembled, we'll see Wake, Starks, Odrick and JT as the front 4. That should be pretty wicked, as Starks and Odrick can get inside pressure very well.

Odrick could very well be our best DL by the end of the season, and thats saying alot with Solia and the most underrated player in the NFL in Langford.

Was not a fan of the pick because of our DL depth when we picked it, But Odrick is extremely impressive player. He will go to multiple pro bowls, IF, and a big IF, he can stay healthy. He is that good of a player.

I think what may be going unsaid here is how well Merling is playing. He's actually starting to live up his draft status. I still think he's a better option as a 4-3 DE than a 3-4 DE, but that says something about him. Odrick is showing what we saw this time last year and we know about McD and the starters, but even Fields and Baker have stood out at times. That's really saying something about our depth. Someone is going to get a good rotational guy from our cuts if Merling or someone isn't dealt...

Again, in a perfect world, Merling gets traded to Tenn or Denver or Chitown for a backup TE or even the jests (hehehe) or another guy to throw into the mix at S...or an OG from someone that could develop...or a draft pick...

I know I'm in the minority here, but I think Odrick will start. It will be a useless distinction though, since Starks will get at least as many snaps. Overall, I love our D-line.

rush 4 with that exact lineup, drop 7 against these elite passing teams, sounds like a very good recipe to go strength vrs strength..

All four guys on that particular line in our nickel rush can both Rush the passer and play the run, they are a nice blend of strength and athleticism, and they are the 4 that I want in those situations.

You can rush those 4 or have them as the DL, still have Karlos and KB in the game to cover the short zones, and 5 DBs.

Last year our best run defenders at DE were Langford and McDaniel. Maybe worth considering to start them in the base D, so Starks and Odrick are totally fresh for all the pass rush chances when we go to the nickel.

I like Odrick more against the run and Starks more against the pass.

On the basis that your starting line up is based on the assumption of facing 1st and 10 in the opponent's half of the field I expect Odrick to be the 'starter', but has previously been said that Starks and Odrick will split a lot of snaps, and there will be a lot of snaps when both of them will be on the field at the same time either as DEs or Starks as a DT.
