Just wanted to clarify something, and thought someone here might know the answer. With the deadline to report being August 2nd, does that mean all FA deals have to be done by Tuesday? I know that the deadline is for accruing a season, which ostensibly has no bearing on players who are already UFAs. But there's also the fine aspect of it that each day you fail to report you get fined x amount of dollars. Another interesting thought I had was, if you have to report by August 2nd to accrue a league year, and a team signs a FA on August 3rd to a 2 year deal, would that then realistically make it a 3 year deal as that player did not report in time to accrue a league year for 2011? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Well, the reporting deadline only applies to players under contract, and FA's can be signed at any time, but once the season begins the Waiver process is in force and the worst record from the prior season has first choice for the first 6 games of all waived players regardless of current record.
