I recently found out my cholesterol was high, and my docter recomended me to get around 30 mins of exercise each day. I wasnt really too far out of shape at the time, but I didnt have any kind of real exercise routine either. I started one that is a sort of blend of some of the cardio stuff in p90X 3-4 days a week, and Ive been lifting weights 3 days a week. After a week or so into this routine, I started getting some foot pain....mostly first thing in the morning, or if Ive been sitting around for awhile. The seems pain starts to go away (although not completely) after I get on them and walk/limp them out a bit. This has been going on for a good two weeks now. I got some shoe inserts that seem to help some what. There is no swelling that i can see, or any redness...its just an annoying sort of pain.

My question is, could this just be something common that will go away after time, once my feet get adjusted to the routine? Or is this Uncommon and I need to stop and see a doc??

Usually when I begin to wonder "what if" like you are I call the doc just to be sure, but I'm on state healthcare, so I pay nothing out of pocket.

No blisters or anything visible noticeable. Its just a sore pain in the middle of my foot I feel when I step. It somewhat feels like the same kinda pain you have in your muscles after working out, except its been like that for a couple of weeks. It also works itself out after walking on it a bit,...but another thing, doing the plyometrics on p90x seem to be ok during the routine, but the next morning the pains alot worse. Ive decided to quit doing that and go with a little lower impact stuff.

Yeah sounds like you may be overworking yourself a bit. Might also be your shoes. When I do squats I sometimes get a soreness in my foot although its not to where I limp around. Make sure you stretch, I know its embarassing but it helps, and warm up, even cool down. Also make sure you don't overwork yourself, might want to give yourself a bit more time to rest. With something like p 90x, might not want to follow it strictly if you weren't previously working out and wean yourself slowly into it.

I also may add, alot of the stretching in p90x I have to concentrate on balancing, and I can feel that in my feet pretty bad and sometimes I have to sit out a stretch to let the pain in my feet go away....but once Im jumping around,..its fine.

I read an article in a running magazine (avid walker here) where the guy who was running was having pains up and down his legs. He went to the doctor - who was very well renowned in his field - and said that the pain could be psychological as well as an actual problem. He recommended pushing through it, and trying to find reasons why the brain could be sending the body that perceived pain.

I try this frequently when I get pains walking, and it often goes away.

Ok I didn't know p90x had stretching. Make sure you stretch before you weight lift as well. It sounds to me like you may just be using muscles you aren't used to. I would just slow down a bit during the painful parts, take it slow, and see if it starts to subside.

Ive been pushing through most of it, and does go away eventually...but once my feet go idle for awhile, like sitting around on the couch, Ill get up to walk somewhere and thats when I feel the soreness. I walk for about 2 or 3 minutes and it goes away.

I tend to agree that my feet are probably just not used to it right now. I kinda thought that might be the case, because it does make sense. This routine was a big change in what Ive been doing. I sit behind a desk at work most of the day, and up until now my feet has seen hardly any kind activity beyond just walking here and there. It just seemed weird that if it were muscle soreness, it would have been gone by now, since my muscles , anywhere else, only hurt like a day after working them out. I guess different muscles heal differently. Ill tone it back some and see if the pain tones back as well.

    thanks for everyones responses!!

this could also be the makings of a bone spur which also has some of the same symptoms you are describing.while it may not be a bone spur yet there is another technical name that escapes me right now that could end in a bone spur.while most bone spurs tend to be around the heel or toe areas the pain is noticble in the bottom of your foot in most cases.

That's exactly what it is. Too bad we're so late to this thread!

I had the same thing 5 years ago. Get it treated NOW. Don't wait around, becuase over time the pain will not go away after you've warmed it up.

I figured out what was going on with my feet. Interestingly enough, I was caused by niacin supplements. I started taking niacin because I had read about it being beneficial for cholesterol. One day, I just quit taking the supplements and within a few days, my feet quit hurting. I did a little more research, and sure enough...foot pain was a side effect of niacin supplements for some people!!...Who would have figureed?

Was it causing your feet to swell? Fluid retention? That's the only side effect I've ever read that would cause foot pain from taking B3.

I didnt notice any swelling or fluid retention during that time. ....Im not 100% sure it was the Niacin that was doing it either. I just noticed that the pain went away around the same time I quit taking the supplements. Out of curiosity, I checked the internet and basically saw a few sites that pointed out the niacin/foot pain connection. Thats basically all the research I did on it since the foot pain was no longer an issue. Its possible it could have been something else, but everything seems to point at the niacin, but if swelling and fluid retention is part of the niacin side effect, I could be wrong on it.
