Good pickup, he had a bad post season eval cycle, but I did like his game.

He is not as exciting of a signing as I thought he'd be when I graded two or three games of his. I kind of backed away from him as I watched more of his games, similarly to the other QBs in the Draft. But he is a UDFA so not bad at all.

IMO Devlin is over rated. When I watched him play last year I saw one consistent deficiency that I think will doom him to nothing more than a back-up. He seems to lack the ability to improvise or adjust when anything goes wrong.

I really liked his release Rafi, he can get the ball out quickly and to me, if his footwork is good those are tools to work with.

Seems like a poor man's Pennington. Might beat out Brandstater for the #3 role, unless they want a wildcat type guy there since he can be active now

I liked that too, but it's not enough. If your QB can't improvise out of trouble either by buying time with his feet or by making the great throw and/or read, he'll never be the guy that wins games for you.

I could swear he'd committed to the Cardinals.

The guy has a noodle for an arm and according to what I've heard of how he conducted this pre-Draft process, a noodle for a head too. Ah well, could be worse.

He's accurate. They'll like that. But he doesn't like to throw at anything more than 20 yards away from him. I like his quick delivery. Ultimately I think it's the arm that does him in because it's weak and he knows it's weak, he doesn't have the confidence that stronger armed guys have to get the ball out and sling the thing. That induces some panicked reaction when things are going south.

Well, get him into Camp and see what he has, no need going to the wall over a UDFA Qb, I would like to see him run an old school style run and shoot O though.

But hey, Jeff Ireland once said he was the next Tom brady. QB problem solved!!!!

Seriously, can't you just imagine Ireland and Sparano high fiving over this signing like they just unearthed gold.

More like a poor man's Marc Bulger. Probably better than Jeff Van Camp though. He'll beat out Brandstater. Jeff Ireland will make sure of that. He's had his eye on this guy a while.

we need 90 players for training camp.....this is probably one of those "dont look too much into it" signings.

This is what signing UDFAs is all about - you take a chance on guys w/ upside who have obvious drawbacks that caused them to be undrafted in the first place. Chances are, they are garbage, but they sometimes turn out to be Davonne Bess, Tony Romo or James Harrison!

He's going to be on the roster and he's going to be active on game days (with the new rules). That makes it a significant signing.

Until we find "the guy," we should be looking everywhere to find "the guy." Absolutely a low-risk signing here!

    I dunno about that.

I'm not convinced he'd play these kinds of games at the bottom of the roster. Just can't see him cutting a better young, minimum player without the coaches being on board. Acquisition is one thing, release is another.

    I live in DE.
Went to watch him play when he was a supposed 1st rounder.

Walked away unimpressed. But as a UDFA a pretty good signing.
He was still likely a 5-7th rounder until he opened his mouth.

That's my point, I'm saying there's really nothing negative to the signing, that's all. Seems there was a little in this thread. This is exactly the type of guy we want to take a chance on - guy who committed to a big school, then transferred for playing time, and excelled. He'll need some grooming, but who knows what could happen in three years or so!

Froman was the only UDFA QB I had any hopes for so once he was gone I thought that avenue was closed. The part that bothers me is it might be indicative of a pattern of flawed thinking. QBs that can't improvise will never win games for you. They'll just be game managers that will win if the OC makes the right call. That's what we have in Henne (although he does have enough arm to maybe be better) and that's what we'll get in Orton. Orton only improved in Denver b/c he was given easier reads. He still made the wrong read too often, but it was better than he had been before.

Alriiiight Miami!!!! Competition for Henne? Check. Now we can start addressing some issues that will actually help the team.

I actually like Devlin as a dev guy, but if he competes with Henne for anything else than a parking spot, I'll eat Boomer's leg live on the internet.

IMO there were a few people who saw this guy as an answer of some sort. IMO he'll be a camp body or at most a guy who claims the third spot for a year or so until we find an upgrade to a guy with more upside. So I see it not as an "oh no we signed this guy", but rather as an "oh well nothing to see here".

This says a lot, as well as nothing at all. It's ok though, we like QBs who don't take chances deep.

I think it is flawed to put much weight on a UDFA Qb in the first place Rafi, as for creating plays, "this is a passing league"
