Thanks. I thought I was going to lose the last game. I was down 13-14 after a blocked extra point and 4 first half interceptions. Luckily the Raiders suck and my 6 interceptions wasn't enough to stop me from beating them.
Damn, no imported draft class. Maybe they'll add it before we have our draft. Is it too late for me and BPK to play our game?
i just advanced to week 17......so yes if your game is week 17. you have plenty of time, i just advanced it. but getting the games done faster the better....so we can dive into playoffs.......so the people who arent lucky enough to be in the postseason dont have to wait too long before we start our offseason. so lets get it done guys!
Detroit Lions Victorious In Season Finale Week 17 of the NFL season featured two teams playing for nothing, nothing except pride and position in the draft. With the Bears coming into the game at 4-11, and the Lions at 5-10, slotting in the NFL draft was heavily dependant on this game for both teams. Perhaps that's why some Detroit fans were halfheartedly happy following their 63-33 trouncing of the Chicago Bears. "You know, a good friend of mine once told me....you play to win the game, and it's true. We are out there to be the better team each time we take the field. Our draft position doesn't even come into play, we are confident we can find the right player at any spot." said general manager Alex44 in his end of season press conference. With the final game of the season over, questions about the future of each and every player flooded the room. "Well we believe in our core of guys here. We really aren't looking to move anyone, but rather build upon what we already have. Of course as with every team, anyone is available for the right price, and we are in the market to upgrade at every position possible. However as of this moment, each player is safe. We loved the heart and effort shown this season to help this franchise turn things around" It was also announced that Calvin Johnson and Ernie Sims were awarded team offensive and defensive MVP respectively. Johnson finished the year with 110 receptions, equal to the next two leading receivers on the team combined. His season also ended with 11 of rookie quarterback Matthew Staffords 32 touchdown passes, and nearly 1,500 yards receiving (1,494). Perhaps his most impressive stat however, were his 887 yards after catch. Prior to completion of all week 17 games, Johnson ranks #1 in the league in receptions, #2 in yardage, and tied #4in touchdowns. Ernie Sims lead the team with 91 tackles, with an astounding 28 tackles for a loss. He ranked #2 on the team in sacks behind the late season surge of defensive end Cliff Avril. Sims picked up his lone interception of the year week 17 against the Bears, and was undoubtedly the emotional leader on the field this season for Detrots defense. The teams offensive rookie of the year has been given to Matthew Stafford. Stafford put up unpresidented for a rookie, finishing with 3889 yards and 32 touchdowns. Going into next season Stafford knows there is one thing in particular he needs to work on. "Interceptions" he said at his post game interview. "I gave the ball to the other team 23 times this season, and that is unacceptable. That is handing the other team points, and letting my defense down. I just can't do that. I'll be working hard in the film room all offseason hoping to improve my reads." On the defensive side, team rookie of the year goes to Louis Delmas, who finished the year with 39 tackles and an interception from his safety position. Though Delmas showed flashes, he was also inconsistant. If he doesn't show more awareness in the passing game going into next season its possible he could be demoted to a dime back, as too many big plays were made against the Lion secondary this season. We managed to catch up with the Head Coach of the Lions for a few words. "I just want to say how proud I am of my guys. I mean coming off of 0-16...none of these guys had their heads down a single game. They fought every snap all season long, and we cant wait for next season." Asked what his team needed to improve "Definitely our running game. Our backs need to show more explosion, and the line definitely needs to hold their blocks longer. I thought Matt played well this year, but any time you ask a rookie to heave the rock 538 times over the course of the season, something is wrong with your running game." Next, and last, was receiver Calvin Johnson. "Not having a shot at the Superbowl hurts...but this game was our Superbowl. We wanted to go out on a high note, and I think we did. My chemistry with Matt got much better as the season went on, and I think we're going to be dangerous next year on offense. I trust our staff to put us in position to win, and our guys to execute. We're all ready for next season...all I can say to the rest of the NFL, is bring it."
Also sorry I wasnt active for our last week. Just hit a rough patch with life since New Years Eve. I'm back and ready to roll.
awesome write up alex everyone else wanna do these and either post em or send em to me via pm and i will wrap em all up with pictures and post them etc etc
It was a great write up Following Crappy Tipper's victory with Seattle, the Browns will have the 1st pick with a Loss...that is consolation for busting my tail and perhaps still walking away with a Loss vs. Starry31 and his Jaguars. But a Win will be just as sweet even if it means several franchises end with 4 wins (and the Browns rotate down based on SoS). So be it....you play to win the game is the best strategy. Hoping to play Starry31 tonight if he gets online @9pm. Otherwise tomorrow hopefully. Will recap for sure......
Great game...back and forth, but I had one to many Defensive laps on my Safety play and missed tackles...hahaha..........but back and forth with Offense for sure. After my end of 1st half bonehead mistake, I was able to battle back to within 1 TD...and swear I dont know how I didnt hold onto that key 3rd down conversion attempt..oh well. no challenge allowed, LOL. Great game, congrats on pulling it out. Well, there you have it boys and girls.....your Cleveland Browns are now on the clock with #1 pick in the upcoming draft.
haha Good game BigDogs, didn't see message until I got on at 10 since I was watching the Heels basketball game. When I play online Henne has been averaging 10-12 passes or so and I thought that was pretty low, especially compared to other people, with our game Garrad only threw it six times. Game started pretty close then got lucky on some turnovers and MJD started going crazy. As a side note since this is a Dolphins forum, we had a Brian Griese sighting in our game!
I am interested in getting these pesky playoffs out of the way to see what players are available. The Ravens have needs to shore up their amazing #1 in the league passing offense and amazing over 10 touchdowns scoring defense.
considering i have the #1 and 3 rushers in the league......id say my rushing offense is fine. i need a qb. delhomme hasnt done horrible. but i need to get younger and better. WR help is a must also. not to mention TE. on defense iam solid at rusher with 2 sack getters in the top 5 (brown/peppers) middle linebacker is set......i need younger and upgrade to olb and corner. i have a slew of 65-70ish corners....and below average and old safeties.......it will come back to haunt me later on if i dont upgrade. iam very excited for the draft. just so everyone knows....there are no freeagents besides whoever is cut from other teams. there are no contracts etc etc. so if your expecting big time FAs or something DONT. the only free agents would be if for example i draft a qb and cut delhomme.....he'd be a free agent. thats it.
The Ravens are pretty solid for the most part. There are some areas where I think they can improve. If I would pick my top two needs it is cornerback and wide receiver. However the problem will come when I see who retires. Right now Ray Lewis and Trever Price are over 33. If they retire I am in deep trouble. Also Mason and Harrison are old. If they retire I will also be in trouble. Especially since I pass so much with a running team. However since I will most likely be in the superbowl (I do not remember if I have any human competition along the way), the history of Madden shows me that maybe Marvin Harrison will retire. Maybe. Due to the stupidity of the computer, there might be some decent to good free agents after the draft to make room for drafted players. I do not know if that is for sure, however it is something to keep in mind and there probably should be a wait on signing free agents after CPU signs their draft picks, so there can be some sort of waiver system or something.
Just another ploy to try to keep THE Cleveland Browns from returning to glory....but it will not deter us from our goal. CLEVELAND ROCKS....even if I am the only one to know it! P.S. which QB of mine would you like???
While you guys are doing playoffs I think I'll take the time to learn what I need to upgrade with Jacksonville, five games with them so don't have a real clear picture. I just keep playing ranked online games with Miami though. I do like what I have with MJD and he's real young, I'm more of a runner anyway. I'd be willing to part with Torry Holt, he's old but 85 overall at the moment. BarryP and myself played a game (out of franchise) that went back and forth, don't recall ever seeing a punt, and ended on a field goal as time expired; one of the better games I've played.
If anyone likes any of my players, the positions I'm looking to upgrade through trade this offseason would be: FS ILB CB Offensive Line Runningback (speed) Also willing to give up a pick if needed for the right player.
What is Williams speed rating? The thing is I'm not huge on running the ball to begin with, so I'm not sure the loss in draft position is worth it. I can probably find a back with the speed I want in the 3rd/4th. Calvin Johnson for your whole roster?
yea in my franchise I got a trucking fast runningback in the 3rd round. I do not know if online drafts are different.
Most heartbreaking game of Madden ever. Not related to our franchise but whatever. So I'm in franchise as Cleveland. I'm playing my first game of the season against the Vikings who are an absolutely superior team in every aspect of the game. All Madden difficulty, 8 minute quarters. Adrian Peterson gashes me for like 70 yards total first drive. They have first and goal from my one inch line. I stuff them three straight plays and force a field goal. The first quarter ends 3-0. In the second quarter the Vikings are driving again, but I hit Favre from the blindside and force an interception by my defensive end. I end up punting but gain field position. I get the ball back and kick a field goal 3-3. Vikings driving again inside my 35, my defensive end grabs Peterson and spins him, I user controll my DT and use the hit stick. FUMBLE. I recover it. I go on to have a beautiful drive and score a touchdown. Vince Young to Dexter Jackson (speedy free agent, 5'8 lol) he tipped himself the ball like 7 times before catching it Adrian Peterson ends the half with like 135 rushing yards. The Vikings score a touchdown on a nice sustained drive and its 10-10. Near the end of the third quarter they score another to take the lead 17-10. I have no confidence in my ability to drive 80 yards down the field at this point...but Josh Cribbs makes a good 60 yard catch and run on an out route. I use the same play I did to Jackson for the first touchdown, and we have a tied game! 17-17 There is about 3 minutes left in the fourth...the Vikings attempt a 57 yarder. The kicker ****ing booms it. It seriously had an extra ten yards on it...wtf? Anyway I get the ball back...drive it down to their one yard line with 6 seconds left and no timeouts. Clock stopped. I can kick this and go into overtime....but a voice in my head comes and says YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME. Alright. Shotgun, four wide receivers and one tight end. Its a pass play, but I'm running the QB draw. I have Vince Young! I'm going to read the linebackers, pick my hole, and run in for the win. I do it all the time. If it isnt there I'll throw the ball away quick and still have time for the field goal...right? Down...set...HIKE. The ball is snapped. Both of their outside linebackers and a corner blitz, along with a middle linebacker. ****. The defensive end drops into coverage, I'm afraid to throw the ball its an easy pick. But I have nowhere to run and time is running out. I'm hit on the blindside by the defensive end as I franticly hit the right analog to throw the ball away. Its over... Wait no its not. Vince breaks free of the sack. Theres 3 seconds on the clock, I can still get the ball away. I hit the stick again, and I get hit again. The ball squirts out, its a pass. Its the ball against the clock. The ball is coming down...2 seconds left....still going down...1 second left. Ball hits the ground and the clock runs out at the EXACT same moment. I never got my shot at a field goal...no shot at overtime. That was probably my best fundamental game ever, I didnt turn the ball over, I played solid defense when I had to, drove the field for the win....and lost. I've blown teams out, but the close ones always feel better.
Not to revel in your misery Alex, but I couldn't help cracking up as I was reading. That's just props for writing it out well so I could imagine it all in my head. I think I heard Herm Edwards voice somewhere in there. I was playing an online game recently and it had been back and forth, finally I score a touchdown very late and I'm down 1. I'm normally pretty conservative, but this guy's offense had been really hard to stop and I didn't want to leave it up to the coin flip, and I had that little voice telling me to go for it too. So decided to go for two and got it, definitely holding my breath on that one. Two of my most recent games came down to me needing a drive to get in field goal position, then making it to win as time expired. Those games are always fun. If you haven't already enter in the franchise code (inside Madden book) to activate online franchise mode, then search for "thephins" the password is "landshark". Season 1 has ended, but could grab a team and start fresh next season.
Pssshhhhh, that is nothing Alex. You should have BPK tell you the story on how I beat him. It is a story I tell people about the game I cannot believe I won.
but please daphins.....do not pick a playoff team. i dont think that'd be fair at all. other than that....your more than welcome to join. the more human players the more options to make trades in the offseason...and the more fun imo
Vikes were gone..BOOOO!!!! But no, in all honesty I combed through the thread and saw the details yesterday. Signed up as the saints..from what I saw they were out of the playoffs? I can back out and change teams if need be..didn't intend to take a playoff team if I did (they only had 9 wins so i'm assuming?....)
9 wins huh (they might be #6 seed),....passed up CIN, CHI, STL all with 4..... Skins with 5 now those are rebuilding projects!!!!
i beat the saints week 17 making them 9-7 they still may get into the playoffs. so i would hold off until we advance the week. which reminds me....who still needs to play?
Speaking of games, I have a pretty sweet #1 draft pick that I might be willing to part with for some RB & DB upgrades.
I beg your pardon good sir, what I meant to say what that I have a pretty sweet first round draft pick.
