    Progressive scan is better, yes.

1920x1080 is the best resolution available on most mainstream TVs. There are PC monitors that can achieve better resolutions (typically for gaming I believe).

Digital Cinema can produce higher resolutions as well.

Super Hi-Vision (arguably the next step from 1080p, not counting 3D) is many, many years away. At that point one is probably reaching the maximum amount of detail discernible by the human eye, if it can even discern that resolution.

So I'm bringing back this thread because I'm looking to get the TV for Christmas. I know Sking and Stiches were back and forth between the two and I've heard multiple things were some people say there is and isn't a difference betwen 1080p and 720p on smaller sets. My new question is this. Have any of you guys run Blu Ray on 720p? If so what's it like? Is it noticably lacking?

Not unless you are used to watching at 1080p.

I have never seen anything in 1080p. You won't go, god this could be better?

Although as I'm looking I found this TV. http://www.circuitcity.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5472190&CatId=3649

    It's a 37" vizio that is 1080p. It's Cheaper than best buys 1080p 32" and $100 dollars less than a 37" 720p. Now I know Vizio's aren't the best, but they aren't poor quality either.

The most entertaining argument are major nerds fighting about 1080i versus 720p. They throw in all of these calculations. It is hilaruous. Just go to any high def forum. For me, my TV is a 720p TV, but it can recieve 1080p signals. It downgrades it to 720p. I usually use 720p on my Comcast cable box. Whether it is better than 1080i is up for debate, and frankly I don't give a damn.
