Lousaka Polite is only 28 years old. Yet flecks of grey are emerging in the stubble along his rugged jaw. Polite was released five times before his fifth NFL season began. When he signed with the Miami Dolphins in October 2008, the transaction line looked like another stop on a trail of failure. In Week 7, he became the third fullback they used that year, and few fans had any clue who this journeyman was. http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/14549/fins-fb-polite-not-feeling-comfy-yet I love this guys attitude.
Tell ya what, he really made a jump from 2008 to 2009. He wasn't anything special as a blocker in '08 IMO. He was a conversion machine, but the blocking wasn't standout. They extended him that year, so clearly the team thought he was or could get better.. In '09 he became a devastating blocker. Really took his game to another level. I really hope he gets in the endzone this year. I know it's not his role, but it would be nice for that guy to get a payoff like that. It's hard to put the ball in his hands down on the goal line when he's such a machine clearing a path.
Big Lou was one of those acorn/SFA types that Irish seemed to have a rolodex of in 08, now he has to show maybe he has good hands to be a complete FB. He is easily our best blocking FB since Tony Paige in the early 90's, he is also one of those players that the no one notices when they make predictions.
BTW, Big Lou is one of the pillars of the Dolphins, as in he is a behind the scenes guy who: -Tutored and is tutoring Korey Sheets on how NFL offenses work, something he had no knowledge of coming from the Spread at Purdue, Sheets playbook at Purdue is nothing compared to the 400 pages (give or take) in Dan Henning's playbook and Sheets has to know everything, from blocking responsibilities to running routes to how to operate in the Wildcat. -The other night, a couple of Dolphins attended a boxing match at one of the Casinos featuring ex UMer James Bryant making his pro debut. The three Dolphins at the fight? -Pat White -Pat Turner -Lousaka Polite Big Lou is everywhere, his time as a Street FA has really changed his outlook (imho) he knows what a bottom of the roster player needs to show to make the team, he knows that hanging with his Offensive Unit members builds Unit Integrity and cohesion. Big Lou is the glue that few people ever bother about, but he is a fixer who knows how to be mechanic..
