Crowder really needs to step it up this year. Piling up tackles for the D is great, but it would be nice if he started making more bigtime plays that can help change a game. He definately hasnt lived up to his full potential though in my opinion. As for Roth and Allen... they need to step it up bigtime if they want to stay on this roster thats for sure. I really think Roth is in trouble.
He misses a lot of tackles as well. He takes bad angles to the ball and he's even admitted that he hates film study. And I've always noticed how unfit he looks at the beginning of T.C. There is a lot that he can improve on IMO. Some players don't have that luxury. Crowder could be a very good player
This will be the crucial season for Crowder, under this regime and the new conditioning program, he should have his best season ever, and if he doesn't, he is history as a Dolphin IMO. the same thing holds true for Roth, he will have all the conditioning, and the right program/scheme in place with the new coaching to excel, if he does not, then he never would under our style D and will likely not have much of an NFL career. Jason Allen showed flashes, he should also step it up this season as the level of coaching should be vastly improved, and he will no longer wonder whether he's a Safety or a Cornerback, though frankly I am still confused as to which he will play for us. JA will have his toughest challenge this season, and I really think his challenge will be mental, I've never really doubted his physical skills much, always been more concerned with the mental aspect of his game. Not saying he's not a smart guy, just that he has never had clear direction and been given the right coaching to settle into that.
Channing Crowder is a 245 pd linebacker who plays like a 200 pd safety, he makes tackles down the field, doesn't fill gaps at the line of scrimmage and makes no big plays. Jason Allen will not start at Safety baring some sort of "I've turned the corner and understand the defense" type moment, he just blows assignments too much, he trained at corner last season, I don't think he played there very much outside of preseason. Matt Roth has problems, miscast as a everydown DE for us, and so far he has not had a chance to play LB either, unless he shows he can anchor against the run, he could be on the bubble.
IMO, Jason Allen has much more potential then Channing Crowder, physically channing has limitations, hes very stiff from the waist up, not very powerful either, Jason has much more athletic ability then crowder. I dont see what everyone else sees in this potential of crowder, cant remember one significant play he has made in three years. I do however remember Marshawn Lynch running his azz over on a pivitol third and short last year.
Well actually, none of them install me with a great belief. They better be ready for training camp or they are gone. I like Roth but dont see where he fits, Crowder under achieves, and Jason Allen needs to really have a good year if he wants to stay.
As much of a HOMER as I am, it wouldnt bother me to see all 3 gone. Crowder doesnt have the 'fire in his gut' for football, IMHO, like Zach did / does. He will never be more than an average or journeyman type player, again, IMO. Allen struggles to much for my taste. He apparently is not a natural, even though he has the measurables you look for. I am not sure a rookie couldnt keep up with him right now. Now Roth, I am really disappointed with. I thought he would be very good. I LOVE his fire. He plays like he really wants it. Of the 3, he is the one I hope they can find a spot for. But it wont break my heart if they go in a diff. direction.
Channing Chrowder has so much talent if he ould just step up and use it. Well I guess this is his year to proof himself
