Nice to see. Jaws does at times treat QB's too kindly (understandable because he was one and knows what criticism is like). But, I always appreciate and respect what he has to say because he's not just talking out of his butt. He looks at film.

Hopefully Tanny will keep things going and continue to improve this year. The Dolphins could easily be 3-1 (and probably should be). But, if we don't make the playoffs this year and can get a better draft choice - good for us. This is not a one year deal but one in which I think we want to continue to become stronger as a team and next year offers us a better opportunity if RT can really continue to grow as a QB. But, I don't want to see us lose too much (have to have some confidence on which to build).

Great, now all we need is a GM who can draft well on the offensive side of the ball.

Not true. Wasn't he one of thew calling out Michael Vick at the tail end of '10? The season Vick lit it up and everyone was back on his balls? I think Jaws questioned his ability more than anyone else.

Can't be the QB OL or RB's maybe TE WR seems like the voids are getting fewer and fewer.

Jaws is a strange guy. He seems to praise every quarterback under the sun but then when he ranks them you're like...that doesn't fit what you just said.

In this case he ranks Ryan Tannehill above Fitzpatrick and Sanchez as the 2nd best QB in the division which is great (albeit an easy call) and he praises the hell out of him talking about how his transition has been "incredible" and whatnot, but then he ranks him #24 in the league which means he only found 8 quarterbacks out there to rank below Tannehill.

That's not REALLY that extraordinary praise. You can probably assume those 8 include Ryan Fitzpatrick, Mark Sanchez, Kevin Kolb, Brandon Weeden, Blaine Gabbert, Russell Wilson and Jake Locker...which means that from among a list of guys that includes Christian Ponder, Andy Dalton, Robert Griffin, Josh Freeman, Alex Smith, Sam Bradford, Jay Cutler, Carson Palmer, Tony Romo, Michael Vick, Matt Cassel and Andrew Luck...he could only find ONE that he was comfortable ranking behind Ryan Tannehill. In that context, just how far out on a limb is Jaws REALLY going for the rook? Not very far at all, really.

I believe there are 8 QBs out there that you wouldn't even think of comparing Tannehill's current prowess to, and they are Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, Eli Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Phil Rivers and Matt Schaub. Then I think you're going to be hard-pressed to try and come close to comparing him to Peyton Manning, Matt Stafford, Cam Newton or Joe Flacco.

But then you've got your Josh Freeman, Andy Dalton, Jay Cutler, Tony Romo, Michael Vick, Carson Palmer kind of group and while they're probably ahead of Ryan Tannehill, by year's end you never really know. Guys like Christian Ponder, Robert Griffin, Matt Cassel, Alex Smith, Sam Bradford, Andrew Luck...they should be well within reach even in the short term. Some of those I would certainly put behind Tannehill even right now.

Good point he is basically saying there are 23 better QB's out there.

I guess it really depends on what he's ranking - potential/ceiling or results to date. The latter seems to be the case.

And offensive linemen who are not drafted higher than any other player at the same position.

I think you're underrating Romo a little bit there... and I also notice the complete absence of Jay Cutler. :shifty:

To be fair he could simply mean he is transitioning very well and expects him to rise, but he is currently rated as 24th.

Tannehill was getting praise from Collin Cowherd this morning and Collin said Tannehill really impressed him. he said Miami still needs a #1 and a #2 wr but i know fish fans will go back into denial again . if only Miami gm Ireland would stop dicking around and get serious about improving the roster because all we really need is stud wr and a near stud llike wr and a faster tightend and another olineman and then the offense will be ready to play the big dogs . I have confidence in Philbin but i still think Ireland is the downfall or hinderence to the club.

He has drafted 4/5ths of our starting OL, which is currently one of the most dominant in the NFL. He looks like he has done well so far on the Tannehill QB pick. He got one of the best slot WRs as an UDFA, and got a good #2 WR in the 4th round.

But the guy clearly doesn't know what he's looking at on the offensive side of the ball...

We drafted offensive players in rounds 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7 of the last draft? You don't think they had any requests in that draft? You don't think Sherman may have had 1 request in there, maybe regarding his QB?

Heck even Colin Cowherd was praising Tannehill today when discussing how Sanchez has not developed in his first few years and that Ryan in only four games has become our franchise qb.

Therein lies the problem. He's used first round picks on positions where we've seen you don't need to use high picks to be successful.

Not sure what point your trying to make here. The Dolphins lacked offense, offense was drafted. Are you suggesting that the Dolphins wouldn't have drafted Tannehill unless Sherman was hired?

Please explain. Good players are at every position in every round. Brady was a 6th rounder, so was it stupid to draft Tannehill since we've seen that you don't need to use a high pick on that position to be successful?

From my understanding of the post I was replying to, it seemed you were implying that you felt Philbin/Sherman didn't have any requests/input on this recent draft. Was that not your implication?

If it was, my point was that we drafted offensive players in almost every round, and b/c of that, I find it more likely than not that the 2 men high up in our coaching staff who are both on the offensive side of the ball had some input/requests in the last draft.

Ah, yes. The Brady argument. Figured I'd see that one.

You're using something that's happened once in the last God knows how many years to prove a point.
