NFL Schedule (On the NFL Network) = 32 different teams LBJ = 1 dude with no more than 5 possibilities of future destinations
I'm not looking at this from my team's perspective. I'm speaking as an NBA fan on this particular matter. I also do not assume any other things(s) than what I can control.
did the NFL Schedule promise it would win 8 championships? I mean c'mon. Just admit you have the Terrell Owens of basketball and we can all hug afterwards
Didnt Steve Smith guarantee that LeBRON WOULD BE IN mIAMI way before the "Decision" The media is much more than just ESPN. If you're basing everything off ESPN then dont worry, ESPN has been LeBron's biggest fan since he came into the league. Granted they are d-bags themselves since they are the hypocrites who set up the one hour special with LeBron and immediately afterwards criticized him for doing it But the bottom line is most fans outside of Miami feel LeBron is a punk and that has nothing to do with the media. That has everything to do with who LeBron is as a person and how he handled the situation
Thats just another scenario that the Lebron is a douche crowd is painting IMO. Lets say we don't win it all this year. Right now winning/losing its all purely hypothetical at this point. What happens? As already mentioned the haters out there are trying to paint a picture that if we don't win next year that it's a total failure and the team will somehow implode. But will it? I seriously doubt that not winning a tittle this year will cause this team to bust/implode whatever. To me it's just another way for the haters to somehow comfort themselves.
Never muttered a word about imploding. The Heat will certainly be around for a few years with these guys. But even D-Wade said losing a few games in a row would invoke WTC-style panic from everyone.
Oh I don't anybody is saying they will implode. Infact most people think that by year three you will have the bench and big man to win. The fact however is after lebron predicted 8 championships , , after putting out videos "we already won" the Heat will be the laughing stock of theNBA if they don't win and rightfully so. Anyone so full of themselves like Lebron who promises 8 championships deserves the ridicule that will be coming if he can't produce
That's only b/c most people have a great deal of difficulty seeing more than one side of a situation. And when most of the media was (originally) only portraying one side that's all that most people thought. For most it takes a bit more intelligence to think on your own. For some it takes motivation. And since it is easy to root against some body else's team, that motivation was lacking for those outside of Miami.
O h well thank you. Every fan who thinks Lebron is a jerk is just some simpleton who gets all his thoughts from the media. How enlightening
No, I'm saying the media's tune would be different. I would have been saying the exact same things I said before the decision. Cleveland: This was my prediction since I expected him to go the easy route and not face the scorn and increased pressure of coming to Miami. So I would have said he really isn't about winning. Miami: He really is about winning b/c this gives him the best chance to win. Chicago: I would have understood b/c I believed it gave him a better chance to win than any place but Miami. I would wonder if he had to much ego to play on Wade's team. NY: I would have said that he was mostly about ego. NJ: I would have said that he was mostly about money and bought into the owner's promises about teaching him to be a billionaire.
Some are simpletons and can't see both sides. Some could see both but simply don't want to be bothered to see both sides. I did think it was interesting that I actually gave you two options in my post and you either only saw one of them or only bothered with one of them. I should probably thank you for trying to illustrate my point.

Now? Just 60.5 percent. Also falling was the opinion of him as a trendsetter (from 65.2 percent to 64.6 percent) and the opinion of him as a trustworthy figure (from 56.6 percent to 53.0 percent) But LeBron’s marks as a viable endorser did not significantly fall (from 69.9 percent to 67.6 percent of the population). He’s now being recognized as more influential and the population is more aware of him in general, according to the poll. That's interesting. It sounds as if it only appears to be so one sided b/c that's primarily what the media is reporting.
I think it's funny that anyone can blame Lebron. 1) He can ask for a special all he wants, but it is up to a NETWORK to provide him with the air time. ESPN WANTED it, yet everyone makes it seem like they are a victim of Lebron and his "special". 2) The how could he do this to Cleveland syndrome. He had NO responsibility to Cleveland or it's fans. I don't care if he was born there. The second his contract ran out he was under no obligation to EVER contact them again about ANYTHING. 3) He can never be great because he now plays with D-Wade, he won't be "the man." Playing with Shaq really hurt Kobe. Which one of them was "the man" again? BOTH of them. There is no reason Lebron and Wade can't both be superstars on the same team, no reason they can't BOTH dominate, and BOTH be legends.
Classic response from you. It amazes me that people like fin-omenal have their posts deleted for saying far less insulting and you're allowed to post in this manner

I've never gone to the media for what's riht ro wrong, and I don't plan on starting anytime soon. I thought his conduct was crap BEFORE the show was set up, and BEFORE his decision. That just amplified it. I rarely watch ESPN, and it's even more rare that I take any talking heads opinion on an issue..be it ESPN, FOX, or MSNBC. It's just me. I see people rationalizing a guy who set a piss poor precedent for fans of teamwork and athletics in general. He made it all about the ME....got his way, and ran with it. Shame on him for doing so, and shame on the networks and fans for allowing it. If this happens to football, I'm out. I watch sports for sports. If I wanted a showboating circus I'd watch the WWE. Like it or not HEAT fans, you're in the minority. And passing it off as media bias is a great example of sticking ones head in the sand.
ESPN also had a special on the schedule. They devoted countless shows to the Favre "decision" last year. They are in show business. Whatever sells is what they put on.
WTF are you talking about? The guy was a FREE AGENT. of course, heat fans are int he minority...everybody else is too busy hating them.
Wouldn't this quote posted by Stringer indicate that HEAT fans are not in the minority? http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slu...ronbrand071510 Quote: On May 24, the last time the poll was taken, James appealed to 71.5 percent of the population that knew him. That poll seems to indicate that you are either in the 28.5% that didn't like him before or the 39.5% that don't like him now. Either way it would appear you're in the minority.
You honsetly don't see him as the TO of basketball at this point? After that ridiculous show? The go, publicity, self aggrandizing, pouting, are all there. The only thing missing is to see him tear a team down from the inside. But as many fans keep pointing out..he's only 25....
Can't find the page, so can't verify. I have no idea who conducted it, or where it was. If it was an online poll, it'll lose credebility with me. I can tell you from a personal sampling, between my co-workers, friends, family and facebook, I didn't hear a SINGLE positive thing on the King Jame's debacle. The only people I heard positive things from were the media honestly. I called the talking heads out on it before the show. You also might want to show that poll to the supporters on here who call LBJ a marketing genius...this would seem to contradict that.
No. That has everything to do with him coming to the Miami Heat and forming a team that seems to hurt their feelings. had he gone to New York...only the people of Cleveland would have cared. had he gone to Chicago..Cleveland and New York would care. had he stayed in Cleveland..nobody would have cared. But since he went to Miami..the Cleveland fan base is naturally upset...but the fan bases of the other teams that got rejected are all up in arms over it and it just so happens that those fan bases make up a very large segment of the sports fan public. it just so happens that they are also in very large media centers. Notice how Laker fans could care less? it's all the North eastern fans and perceived former contenders that are pissed off, because they are now irrelevant.
WHAT RIDICULOUS SHOW? he did a special...sold the advertising and gave it to charity. This is beyond stupid. TO of basketball? AGAIN..he was a FREE AGENT. Comparing him to TO is flat out DUMB.
Calling Lebron James, one of the most unselfish players in the NBA, a guy that is considered one of the most team oriented guys in the league, and a guy that took less money to be a teammate on a winner instead of MUCH MORE MONEY to be the "man" in a Bigger market such as New York or Chicago..the Terrell Owens of Basketball is an insult to everybody's intelligence and completely strips whoever makes that claim of all credibility. Haters unite!
I never saw the page. I just relied on Stringer so I can't personally verify anything either. But since I don't think Stringer is unreliable, I don't doubt it. At a minimum, I would expect it to have more scientific validity than your personal sampling, however. And regardless of whether you listen to the media, it is impossible to not have the impression that most everybody hates LBJ and that the Heat fans are in the minority. Whether it's affecting you directly or the people in your personal sampling, that is certainly the impression being put forth by the media. That would certainly be my impression. I wouldn't have argued against Heat fans being in the minority if Stringer hadn't posted some contradictory proof. However, I don't expect it to last. In my experience most of the public are sheep. If LBJ starts winning, the media will change it's tune and the public will follow. It will start grudgingly of course. Then more people will start admitting that if winning was his goal then he achieved that. The NBA will be benefitting from the greater attention and probably spend the next 10 years as the #2 sport. The stories will turn to how many can they win. Eventually Wade will retire and it will be about whether LBJ can win without Wade. If he does that then people will forget all about the "show". Just like nobody mentions that Kobe was nearly on trial for rape in 2004. I'm sure there are some that still hate Kobe for that and for cheating on his wife, but that's a small minority. Also I don't see how this would dispute an argument about his marketing acumen. At most it would show a small drop in popularity that may be temporary. Most people recognize that those numbers would probably increase substantially should he add several championships to his resume. If he is able to do that in Miami then the temporary drop would be a small price to pay. Personally, I don't think the show was great idea, except of course for the Boys and Girls Club which benefitted to the tune of millions. But I also believe it was irrelevant to most of that 11%. IMO those numbers would be about the same if he had announced it just like Durant did. In that situation though he would have been blasted for being like Modell and not having the guts to announce it to Cleveland himself.
That's a great point. It has happened in football so any claim by somebody that they'd be out if it happened in football has already been proven wrong.
Well LBJ and Favre seem to be ESPN's darlings don't they? Favre is a HOF Super Bowl winning QB. It's a little deserved to have him be slurped by the media (though they go too far). You don't see them giving such treatment to many other guys sans for Manning or Brady. ESPN has a special, ok. It's still a national schedule release for 32 different teams. It would be one thing if it was the New England Patriots season schedule for the whole hour.
When is the last time Bret Favre did an interview about whether he was going to retire or not? And when was the last time ANY athlete took out a hour long show to announce their "decision"? Im sorry, but the Bret Favre situation isn't even in the ballpark of Lebrons showboating. Every year the man has to weigh if he can walk away from the game. HE doesn't blow it up and talk about it for hours...that falls solely in the lap of our good friends at ESPN. Apples to oranges comparison. The best comparison is TO and his ME ME ME attitude. HE seeks the publicity, goes to the media, makes off hand comments, and does situps in his driveway. LeBron courted the media...not the other way around. Had he made a damn decision and announced it like EVERY OTHER professional athlete has done before him, he would not be viewed as a dick by the rest of the country. Why is that so hard to understand? The guy did something NO ONE has done before, and devoted an hour of TV to his own great self. Nearly everyone outside of Miami hates him for it. And for good reason IMO. That was the more grotesque show of lip service performed publicly on a professional athlete in the history of our country. Y'all seem overly ready to roll out the red carpet for him in Miami...hope you enjoy it. You'll be doing it again, and again, and again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
In terms of having immense talent with no rings yes. That really is it. The media and TV of today wasn't the same as in Dan's day so the comparison can't go too in depth.
Wasn't he accused of giving up in the series vs. the Celtics? Dude doesn't even need money. With the endorsements he has on top of the $110 million dollar deal the Heat gave him at what some are calling a discounted rate, he's set for life. Give me some of that discounted money. You won't see me complain at all
