Offensive Overview:
Goodbye to the days of Jay Cutler and the dismal Bears offense, this offense welcomes in a new franchise QB and a good mix of proven vets and young studs. At quarterback, we have what will be the future of the franchise, Jimmy G, Jimmy Garoppolo. He will immediately start, and we have veteran Matt Cassel who will back him up. Matt Forte is also gone, as we welcome a deep RB class of Chris Johnson, Shonn Greene, Ray Rice, and rookie Javorius Allen. Unlike the Forte days, the RB position will continue to be rotating, guys coming on and off the field throughout the whole 60 minutes. As for play time, we expect Javorius Allen to get the most carries from the get-go. Roddy White leads the receiving group, a HOFer who continues to put up monster numbers year after year, he will be a great team leader and will significantly boost the development of Garoppolo. In addition to Roddy, talented Greg Jennings and Harry Douglas will also produce in the passing game. Both are guys that are capable of putting up 750+ yards and a handful of scores. Kevin Norwood was a late add to the roster, he has potential to be a starting WR in the NFL. At tight end, we are led by vets Anthony Fasano and Michael Hoomanawanui, with upstart Levine Toilolo seeing playing time. This will be an underrated tight end group, but these are very capable players who will help in the passing game, as well as blocking. The offensive line remains generally the same, but we are thrilled to see our first round draft selection Hronnis Grasu in action, he will be our starting center. The offensive team chemistry will be great, making sure Grasu and Garoppolo develop into a good unit, with proven veterans who will push their teammates to give 110% day in and day out.

Defensive Overview:
Going into the offseason, we knew that defense had to be addressed and taken seriously. Last season the Bears had arguably the worst defense in franchise history, and we had to ensure our fans that it would significantly improve. Starting with the LBing position, we brought in a number of fresh faces. In the Jay Cutler trade, we managed to bring in one the best young outside linebackers in the game, Demario Davis. Partnered up with Davis, we have Joplo Bartu on the opposite side of the 3-4, with Paul Worrilow and Jon Bostic inside. This is a fantastic group of young linebackers who will develop into proven NFL starters. The defensive line is also improved, after struggling to bring pressure last season, we now have Bjoern Werner and William Hayes at D-end. Both of these guys will work to bring pressure and could get up to 8+ sacks. At the nose tackle position, we negotiated to bring back Stephen Paea after a breakout 2014 season. To go along with Paea, we added former Bengal Domata Peko, who has started 80 consecutive games, and is one of the best at his position. Both of these guys will do a great job clogging up the run and getting to the passer. In the secondary, the safety position is improved with the addition of Robert Blanton and Cody Prewitt. Blanton had a great 2014 and will look to build off of it as a starter and leader of the defense. Prewitt, the former Ole Miss DB, was drafted in the 3rd round. He is one of the hardest hitting safeties in the draft, and will look to terrify opposing wide receivers. Ryan Mundy, one of the bright spots of the 2014 Bears defense, will also contend for a starting spot. The CB position is aided by proven vets Greg Toler and Lardarius Webb. Toler had a strong 2014 with 15 starts, 2 picks, and 75 combined tackles. Webb, who last played for Baltimore, has 11 interceptions in his last 37 starts. Toler and Webb will pair up with second year man Kyle Fuller, who led NFL rookies in interceptions last season, and Tim Jennings, a longtime Bear who had 9 interceptions in 2012, and started 74 games in the last 5 seasons for Chicago. A number of starting spots will be determined throughout training camp and the preseason, but we are thrilled to see this new Bears team in action.

Offensive Overview
Goodbye to the days of Josh McCown and the dismal Tampa offense, this offense welcomes in a new franchise QB and a good mix of proven vets and young studs. Resetting Jay Cutler around a proven offensive line, a WR corps led by superstar Mike Evans and ex-Jay teammate Eddie Royal, and a coaching staff Jay is more than familiar with. We've upgraded the RB corps substantial from Doug Martin and Rainey as the lead back, and we've brought in upgrades at the TE position as well. We're so psyched about this offense.

Defensive Overview
We are extremely excited to see this defense in action. Lovie and I agree that the defense is paramount to a quality team, and we've vastly improved this defense. Good luck to teams trying to move the ball past our d-line with two of the best tackles in the game on the line, plus 5 DE's who all could be starters in their own right elsewhere. Unfortunately we had to part with Lavonte David this offseason, but the reaped the benefits of that trade, and we've replenished our linebacker corps by bring in Brandon Marshall, Lofton, Whitehead, and drafting Kikaha, who we think is the best pure pass rusher of this draft. Finally, we vastly improved our cornerback corps, bringin in premier corner Aqib Talib and stud corner Jerraud Powers, and hit the reset button on our safeties, bringing in and drafting 6 different guys who all have high ceilings. We're confident in this squad, and believe that we have achieved our goal of taking the Tampa Bay Bucs and making them a playoff team.

This is where it all starts. Under Chip Kelly last season, the Philadelphia Eagles had a very productive offense, but after sitting down and talking about it with Chip, he stated in no uncertain terms that he wanted to “kick it into overdrive, mother****er.” (His words, not mine) At which pointed I realized that we would be going “full Chip Kelly.” (My words, not his) That aggressive philosophy set the tone for the approach we took on offense this offseason, especially as it pertained to our skill position players. We wanted to acquire as many different weapons as possible, to create the most dangerous offense in the NFL. At Wide Receiver, we have Jeremy Maclin and Torrey Smith as our 1 and 1A receiving options. We also have the talented Jordan Matthews operating out of the slot. At running back, we made a pair of splashy trades that brought in Matt Forte and Fred Jackson. Those two players put up nearly 3000 yards of offense last year – and are just as deadly catching the ball as they are running it. Team leader Brent Celek, who, according to Chip is “what a Philadelphia Eagle looks like,” is back at Tight End. Then we’ve got what Chip calls his “Undefinables,” which consists of guys like Darren Sproles, Zach Ertz, and Devin Hester, players who aren’t really running backs, tight ends, or wide receivers in the traditional sense of the word – they’re guys that can and will be lined up anywhere and everywhere in the formation. Making all of this go – and, if Chip has his way, go “really ****ing fast,” is Marcus Marota, whom we acquired with the #1 overall pick. He’ll be protected by one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. As for what we will run offensively, you should know the drill by now – lots of spread and read option concepts, dating back to Chip’s time in Oregon. That doesn’t mean we’re going to simply try and pass all the time – that’s not really Mariota’s strong suit (and he’s a rookie, anyway, which historically isn’t that great if they’re primarily passing) – we’ve got more than enough talent in the backfield and up front to go smash mouth if we need to, so don’t be surprised when we run the ball down someone’s throat. New Offensive Coordinator Marc Trestman will have a lot of input – like Chip, he’s one of those forward thinkers – and I’m confident that between the two of them we will be able to make things happen offensively. In fact, it’s my belief that we will be among the best offenses in the NFL when all is said and done.

The primary reason Chip and I hired Steve Spagnuolo to be our Defensive Coordinator is because we like that he is both aggressive and proactive at the same time. Spags is known for rotating and blitzing his linemen, perhaps most famously against Tom Brady in the Super Bowl a few years back. He isn’t a one trick pony though. If things aren’t working defensively, he’s willing to change it up and try something different. The plan, for now, is to keep the 3-4 while introducing elements of the 4-3 into the front 7 of the defense. (Because let’s be honest, these are simplified nomenclatures anyway and not really representative of what we are or aren’t going to do on defense) Brandon Graham will be asked to do a lot this season; he’s going to be used similarly to Strahan and Osi in New York. Other players, like Fletcher Cox, Mychal Kendricks, and Stephen Tulloch will be moved around in an effort to create mismatches – I can’t wait to see what Cox does as a penetrating UT when we go into a pin-your-ears-back pass rushing scenario. We’ll also go heavy at times, bringing in Benny Logan to anchor things at nose, with the underrated Cedric Thornton lined up as a 4 or 5 technique on the strong side of the formation. You can expect to see a deep rotation among the defensive line, and it’s possible that you could see anywhere from 8 to 10 defensive linemen active and used on gameday. In the secondary we will primarily play press coverage, as we feel that’s the strength of all of our corners on the roster. (It also puts more pressure on the opposing offense) That said, there will be times where we’ll move to zone, and also some instances where we utilize elements of both press and man, depending on the situation of the game and personnel on the field. Both safeties are capable of playing at the line of scrimmage, but can also cover down the field. We have a lot of players who offer a ton of versatility and talent on defense – we’re confident Spags is the guy to maximize their potential.

A Word on Special Teams​

Teams often neglect paying attention to the third component of the game, Special Teams. Chip and I both agreed that this was an area that we wanted to be aggressive in – we already had a dynamic returner in Darren Sproles, and the makings of a very solid unit with Long Snapper Jon Dorenbos (who went to the Pro Bowl this year) and Kicker Cody Parkey. We also looked closely at our kick coverage units. We’re confident that Bryan Braman will step in as the primary gunner on our coverage units in place of James Casey. Still, we wanted to get better, and were able to do so very late in the process, signing Special Teams Pro Bowler Darrell Stuckey. Now we have two players who we are confident can wreak havoc on special teams. We also went out and signed Shane Lechler, who may be the best punter of this generation, and we traded for Devin Hester, who may be the best pure returner of this and any other generation. We don’t want to give too much away, but our plan is to use Hester primarily on punt return duties, while Sproles handles kickoffs. That said, don’t be surprised if you see both of them back as returners from time to time, forcing teams to pick their poison on who they are going to have to kick to. Chip has some ideas on implementing some clever wrinkles during kick and punt returns. We now have arguably the most dynamic special teams unit in the NFL.

Advanced Statistics​

After my initial hiring, I sat down with Chip and had a lengthy meeting on the status of the roster and cap. Our approach was to evaluate and track our core players against our trades, free agent signings, and draft pick, with the goal of preserving continuity. To accomplish this, we tracked the makeup of the roster using a couple different methodologies.

When you look at this graph, you can see that we made a big effort to focus on continuity, as 24 out of 53 players were on roster at the end of last season. We also signed 19 Free Agents. This may sound like a lot, but keep in mind that 8 of those 19 Free Agents were actually on the roster last year – which means from a continuity standpoint we actually kept over 60% of the roster intact.

This second graph breaks down the cap by acquisition type – as you can see, Free Agency and the existing roster make up the bulk of our cap, which shouldn’t be all that surprising, considering that they also make up the bulk of our roster.

The third graph is probably my favorite, as it shows our team focuses from a monetary perspective. Because we were committed to the concept of either keeping Nick Foles or trading for Marcus Mariota, that meant we were able to keep our overall QB costs extremely low – less than 6 million dollars total. This represents a significant savings in this area, as there are 21 individual quarterbacks making more than 6 million dollars a year. Guys like Romo and Brees are actually making over 4 times that amount. Having a cheap starting QB on the roster allowed us to spend in areas that were a bit more “fun” – at least if your name is Chip Kelly and you coach in Philadelphia. It’s a big reason why we were able to dedicate 43% of our cap on what we’ve classified as “Weapons,” which includes running backs, receivers, and tight ends. Starting a rookie QB, we wanted to give Mariota as many options and as much support as possible from the skill positions. The other big expense was the offensive line – but that’s necessary when you’re drafting a rookie QB #1 overall, unless you want to turn him into David Carr. On defense, not surprisingly, the big costs were Edge Defenders and the Secondary, as these are premium positions and require a bit of extra spending.

Key Acquisitions​

Trades

There are some teams who have a tremendous volume of trades, and while that may work for those teams and those GMs, that just isn’t our style. One of the reasons I was hired was of the philosophy I outlined in my initial interview – I wanted us to make thoughtful deliberate moves designed to improve our team. Because of this, we only made a total of 10 total trades this offseason. Here are a couple of the highlights:

• PHILADELPHIA sends 4.116 to ATLANTA for Devin Hester, WR, $3,708,333 (-$1,666,667): Let’s get this out of the way first. Devin Hester is most likely a future Hall of Famer as a Returner. If you have the opportunity to add someone like that to your special teams unit, you do it. Especially at the cost of a mid-round pick. The plan from the outset with Hester was to use him as a #3/#4 WR in our offense, and pair him with Sproles on both kick and punt returns to put pressure on the opposing coverage units.
• PHILADELPHIA sends Marcus Smith, LB, $1,772,523 (-$4,897,569) to DETROIT for Stephen Tulloch, LB, $5,800,000 (-$2,600,000): Smith was an underperformer as a rookie, and not a great fit for what Spags wants to do on defense. We decided we wanted to move on. We also discussed what to do with DeMeco Ryans, who is coming off of an Achilles injury. We ended up deciding to trade Smith for Stephen Tulloch, which in turn allowed us to cut Ryan with no cap ramifications. Tulloch is one of the most underrated players in the NFL when healthy. When healthy are the key words there - the obvious concern is the ACL injury with Tulloch, but we felt that his injury was significantly less of a risk than rehabbing an Achilles injury. We got younger and cheaper at ILB, with a less risky injury rehab in the process – that’s a win.
• PHILADELPHIA sends LeSean McCoy, RB, $11,950,000 (-$4,400,000) and 6.180 to BUFFALO for Fred Jackson, RB, $2,581,258 ($0), Nickell Robey, CB, $587,334 (-$2,334), and 5.147: By the time this trade went down, we had already had some preliminary discussions with Jacksonville surrounding the #1 pick. Chip and I knew that we needed some cap flexibility, because if we were able to procure #1 overall and draft Mariota, he was going to need weapons to throw to – which in turn meant that we needed cap space to be competitive in the always expensive Wide Receiver free agency market. We were able to pick up Fred Jackson, who we feel fits our offense perfectly, while adding depth at corner, dropping significant cap, and also moving up in the draft. A no-brainer, really.
• JACKSONVILLE sends 1.001, 2.048, 3.095, and 5.157 acquiring Nick Foles, QB, $815,880 (-$135,880), Connor Barwin, LB, $7,000,000 (-$1,800,000), 1.008, and 5.148; PHILADELPHIA sends Nick Foles, QB, $815,880 (-$135,880), Connor Barwin, LB, $7,000,000 (-$1,800,000), 1.020, 4.110, and 5.148 acquiring 1.001 and 3.095; SAN FRANCISCO sends 1.008 acquiring 1.020, 2.048, 4.110, and 5.157: Our entire offseason lead up to this moment, as we pulled the trigger to move up to #1 overall. As I mentioned in the draft thread, Chip stated – maybe demanded is a better word – that we go up to get Mariota – and the thing you have to understand about Chip is that when he wants something, he makes it happen. Our pre-draft evaluation had lead us to believe that we’d have to go to #1 to get Mariota, and while this was a steep trade to make, we felt it was worth it. You should have been in the war room after we pulled this one off. High fives all the way around. We feel that this is a potential franchise-defining move that netted us our QB for the next 10 to 15 years. Given the assets involved, one could argue that this is among the biggest trades in GML history.
• PHILADELPHIA sends 2.052 and 3.084 to TENNESSEE for Matt Forte, RB, $9,200,000 (-$1,000,000) and 3.074: This was the feather in our cap – after retaining Jeremy Maclin, signing Torrey Smith, and drafting Mariota, it was time to go “full Chip Kelly” on offense. So we made the ballsy trade to pick up Matt Forte, who we consider one of the top 5 running backs currently playing in the NFL. This was providence; Forte is a great fit for us offensively, and has a great relationship with Marc Trestman our offensive coordinator, whom he is very familiar with due to their time together in Chicago. Losing a second rounder was tough, but we were able to move up in the third to help offset that loss.

Free Agent Signings

In the past, I’ve tried to spread the money around to our Free Agents, attempting to sign 5 to 7 moderately priced players. Invariably what happens is that some other GM gets wise to my tactics and engages in unfair price gouging. This year, with some prodding from Chip, I took a more deliberative approach, opting to “go big our go home,” as our cap limitations meant that we could focus only on a couple of targets, anyway. Once again the concept of continuity was a key driver. Here are some of the highlights:

• Jeremy Maclin, WR (Franchised): Maclin was Philadelphia’s #1 receiver last year. Franchising him created challenge for us financially, but for the sake of continuity (there’s that word again), we felt that it was important for us to bring him back. While we like Jordan Matthews and Josh Huff quite a bit, we didn’t think they were quite ready for primetime, and Maclin had already proven he could perform at a high level.
• Torrey Smith, WR: After trading away McCoy, we had the cap flexibility that we needed to go out and get Smith, who was arguably the best wide receiver on the market at the time. As mentioned, we had already begun negotiations around the #1 pick, so we felt it important to have a true #1A (Maclin) and #1B (Smith) for Mariota, provided we were actually able to land him. On the other hand, should we be unable to land Mariota, then we had the makings of a very solid Wide Receiver core, which wasn’t a bad consolation prize, especially in this league.
• Brandon Graham, Edge Defender (Resigned): We also couldn’t neglect the defense, and we wanted a marquee signing on that side of the ball. Spagnuolo was the one who actually asked me to begin the resign process with Graham, as he was intrigued by being able to move him around using both 3-4 and 4-3 concepts. Chip and I were on board, as it made sense for us to resign a guy that was on the team last season in an effort to … wait for it … preserve continuity.
• Ron Parker, SS: Malcom Jenkins was solid last year, but the rest of the Eagles secondary needed to be made over in the worst way. Our philosophy was to start at the inside out at safety position, with an experienced but under-the-radar player, which has been a typical approach used by Spags in the past to great success. We were able to bring in Parker, who did a great job filling in for Eric Berry in Kansas City last season, on a reasonable salary and in a starting role.
• LaMichael James, RB, Jeff Mahel, WR, Ed Dickson, TE, Brandon Bair, Edge Defender, Casey Matthews, LB: I only bring these players up because Chip is forcing me to – and he wants to point out that, although all of these players played for him at Oregon, there is no favoritism here. These players were all brought in on veteran minimum “prove it” deals, and if they don’t cut it during training camp they will be gone. (His words not mine) I guess Chip thinks there is an award for signing the most players for Oregon. That would explain why our Practice Squad is completely comprised of former Ducks. Or maybe he’s just upset that he was only able to draft Mariota. Speaking of the draft …

2015 Draft Class

​

For us, the draft was always about that #1 overall pick. It was a great feeling in the war room – almost euphoric – when the trade was approved and we were officially on the clock. The rest of our draft went quite well, as we were able to shore up some key areas – and while they may not be the most glamorous picks, we are quite happy with the results.

• Round 1 Pick 1 (from Tampa Bay via Denver via Jacksonville): Marcus Mariota, QB – Mariota will take over the starting QB role from day 1. We’re handing him the keys to a Ferrari of an offense, with playmakers all over the field. Mariota timed out as the fasted QB at the Combine in Indianapolis, so we’re pretty sure he’s up to the task. We’re gonna go fast.
• Round 3 Pick 75 (from New Orleans via Cincinnati): Laken Tomlinson, OG – One of the top guards available in the class, we were happy that he was available in the middle of round 3. Schematically a very good fit for us, he will start immediately at RG. Raw with potential, and a terrific personal story as well.
• Round 3 Pick 95 (from Seattle via San Diego via Jacksonville): Senquez Golson, CB – CB was a very difficult position for us to fill this season, as the top veterans all received overpriced contracts. We turned instead to the draft, and came up with Golson, an undersized prospect who should be able to play boundary in our scheme. Will compete for a starting role.
• Round 4 Pick 112 (from Cleveland via New England via Buffalo via Cincinnati via Tampa Bay): Za'Darius Smith, DL – A poor man’s Michael Bennett, Smith will play DT, 43 DE, and possibly even dabble at 34 DE and OLB for us. A good backup that can spend time behind Calvin Pace. Like Tomlinson, has loads of upside as he hasn’t been playing the game that long.
• Round 7 Pick 224 (from Atlanta via Denver via Tennessee via Cincinnatti): Cody Fajardo, QB: We like Fajardo as a long term project. He was one of the most productive college players in history, passing for 9000 yards and running for another 3000. We are hoping he can develop into a solid #2, should anything happen to Mariota down the road.

Summary​

I’ve been a part of this league in some form or another, 5 of the last 6 years or so. I can honestly say that this is the most talented team I’ve ever assembled. Offensively this team should be among the best in the entire NFL. I’ve given Chip Kelly and Marc Trestman one of the best offenses in the NFL to work with. Both of the running backs and all three wide receivers are capable of putting up over 1000 yards of total offense. Defensively, we retain a lot of talent up among the front 7. Steve Spagnuolo will be playing an aggressive scheme that should help overcome any potential shortcomings, and we would not be surprised if 4 or 5 players end up approaching double digit sacks. Don’t sleep on our special teams unit, which includes two of the most dangerous returners in the NFL, as well as Pro Bowl caliber players at kicker, long snapper and punter. There are no holes here. Facing this team should be a seriously frightening proposition. Good luck.

After spending our last two tours resuscitating the hapless Jacksonville Jaguars, Ashy Larry and I decided to embark on a different type of challenge. Instead of taking a terrible team and turning it into a playoff-caliber squad, we wanted to take a perennial playoff team and turn it into the best team in football.

To us, the Cincinnati Bengals provided the perfect challenge: They were good, but far from great and had hit a wall. Simply stated, the Bengals, as constructed, had plateaued. With a mediocre to above average quarterback, an aging defense that was riddled with injuries and a handful of overpaid players bogging down our original roster, there were plenty of obstacles.

In order to achieve our ultimate goal – fielding a team that could win a Super Bowl in each of the next several seasons while not completely mortgaging our future – we needed to significantly upgrade our quarterback spot, revamp most of the defense and create a team capable of winning in a variety of ways. The end result, we believe, was that we achieved all of our goals and unequivocally compiled the most impressive collection of talent in the league.


First, we’d like to debunk a few misconceptions.
1. Age. We’ve heard that the Bengals are betting on a veteran squad set on winning in the next few years, but we only have three starters (Drew Brees, Andrew Whitworth and James Ihedigbo) who are 30 or older. This is probably one of the younger teams around, especially on defense (average starter: 26 years old.)
2. One-dimensional. The offense stands out because of the star power, but this team is not predicated simply on scoring points. We have top-end players entering the prime of their careers across the ball on defense, including one of the most imposing front sevens around.
3. PFF. Based on our past performances in this league, it’s hopefully clear that we don’t rely solely on PFF. This team was built with chemistry and scheme fit in mind, but we will use PFF to help support our points. Sorry if that bothers anyone; it’s a tool that is ultimately part of the puzzle and is used by front-office execs and respected media members.

Offense
We wanted to field the most dynamic offense in the league. With Brees still playing at a very high level, Jeremy Hill already establishing himself as a Top 10 back, two elite wide outs in A.J. Green and Jordy Nelson, and a top-notch offensive line, it’s hard to find a more explosive yet balanced offense.

The last time Drew Brees missed the Pro Bowl was in 2007. He’s put up monster numbers his entire career but has never had a supporting cast like this. Steady and poised, Brees is a proven winner and has both the temperament and experience to guide a team deep into the postseason. …Charlie Whitehurst had a passer rating of 87 in 300+ snaps as a starter last season in Tennessee, so he’s a nice insurance policy if Brees were to go down (which is unlikely given that he’s missed just two games in the past decade.) …A.J. McCarron and Chris Bonner will vie for the third spot as developmental prospects, with the loser of that race likely being a candidate to be moved to the practice squad during the season.
Noteworthy: At 36, Drew Brees is a year younger than Tom Brady was when he won a Super Bowl last season and a year younger than Peyton Manning was when he made it to the Super Bowl in 2013.

Jeremy Hill is a workhorse. A bruising back, he led all rookies with 1,124 rushing yards last season. …Danny Woodhead replaces Gio Bernard as our capable third-down back. …Juwan Thompson (54 carries, 272 yards, 5.0 YPC, 3 TDs) is an intriguing slash player with the size and power to be a fullback but the quickness to be a poor-man’s Jeremy Hill. Adds some nice depth.
Noteworthy: Jeremy Hill was 8[SUP]th[/SUP] in the NFL in rushing yards as a rookie…and didn’t record more than 30 snaps in a game until Week 8.

We love their approach to the game and believe they will be perfect compliments to each other. …Slot WR Andrew Hawkins became expendable when we stole Andre Holmes in free agency. Holmes, 26, has combined for 1,124 yards the past two seasons and combines excellent deep speed with prototypical size (6-4, 210)…Tre McBride was a 3[SUP]rd[/SUP]-4[SUP]th[/SUP] round talent but slipped in the real draft because of a reputation as “diva.” On an offense filled with proven pros, this is as good a situation as any for him to thrive. ...Tyrell Williams has been described by pro coaches as a "freak of nature."
Noteworthy: A.J. Green and Jord Nelson combined for 9,715 receiving yards in the past four seasons.

Dwayne Allen, 25, is one of the more promising young tight ends in all of football. Hampered by injuries in 2013, but combined for 916 yards and 11 touchdowns in ’12 and ’14. Plus run blocker in those two seasons. …Zach Miller is a reliable No. 2 tight end with nearly 4,000 career receiving yards, while Brian Parker is an unknown rookie we were really high on following the draft. …Ryan Hewitt is regarded as the best young FB in the NFL. We’re happy to carve out a role for him.
Noteworthy: The only knock we’ve heard about Dwayne Allen has been his hands, but he’s caught 68.5 percent of catchable passes thrown his way in two full seasons, which is not great but far from terrible. Caught 71 percent of his passes when fully healthy as a rookie.

This line is stellar from left to right. Jared Veldheer is a cornerstone at left tackle and Andrew Whitworth was moved to right tackle to prolong his career. These bookends are billed with protecting Brees and few teams have a tackle duo like this. We like that Whitworth can seamlessly slide over to LT if Veldheer gets hurt …Clint Boling and Kevin Zeitler have developed a ton of chemistry together the past couple of years and are one of the more underrated guard duos around. …AQ Shipley is a versatile player but we like him at center. …Allen Barbre projects to be a starter for Philadelphia this season and was a steal in free agency as he will serve as our reserve right tackle and a swing guard. …John Miller is a mauler who could start for a handful of teams as a rookie.
Noteworthy: Our projected starters allowed 4 sacks and a total of 18 QB hurries in 2014…while all grading out positively as run blockers.


Defense
Given that we quickly assembled a championship-caliber offense, we realized that we didn’t have time to see if injured starters like Geno Atkins and Vontaze Burfict could get back full strength. So we revamped an underperforming unit from front to back, bolstering our depth and star power across the ball. As Cincinnati has in the past, we’ll utilize a base 4-3 defense. With a slew of DBs, two supremely athletic LBs, and a versatile DL, we have an endless array of sub packages to utilize.

Versatility was key among this group. We knew it would be hard to obtain a top-end pass rusher across from Carlos Dunlap (8 sacks, 19 QB hits), so we went the route of getting an eclectic slew of players. …Jared Allen has lost step at 33 but he still brings a ton of value as a rotational guy. He finished inside the Top 5 among 4-3 DEs in Stops (38), QB hits (20), Batted Passes (5) and tackles (39). Sacks are down (6), but he’s still more disruptive than most realize. …Ryan Davis (6-2, 260, 6.5 sacks in ’14) does a little bit of everything. He sets the edge extremely well as an end, but creates a ton of havoc when moved inside on pass-rushing downs. Last year, Davis had 8.1 quarterback pressures every time he rushed from inside the line and 9.5 disrupts every time he rushed from the edge. Basically, he gets to the quarterback from all over the place, can play any position across the line and will see an increased role in 2015 (so eff off, Todd). …Preston Smith (6-5, 271) reminds us of Davis but could be a little more athletic. A second-round pick in the real draft, he’s a steal who will contribute at some capacity. …Ryan Russell was another steal who was actually drafted in the fifth round. Excellent measurables but production dropped after Purdue moved to 3-4 defense his sophomore season. A project player.
Noteworthy: Jared Allen dealt with pneumonia last offseason and lost 15 pounds. He finally regained his strength and had 4 sacks in final 8 games.

Does it get much better than Kawann Short and Muhammad Wilkerson inside? Short doesn’t get much attention from casual fans, but he’s been a Top 15 defensive tackle in his first two years in the league and continues to get better and better. Really improved as a run defender in ’14 while also more than doubling his sack total. Wilkerson is being asked to move from a 3-4 to a 4-3, but will have similar responsibilities as a primary two-gap defender. Had six sacks in 2014 and is widely regarded as one of the best young defensive linemen in the NFL. … John Hughes was a late addition in free agency. He’s an excellent run defender and an ideal nose tackle with starting experience. …Terrell McClain is also stout against the run and could start in a pinch. ...All of these guys are adept at pushing the pocket and will routinely QBs to our relentless DEs.
Noteworthy: Wilkerson had a 19.2 grade against the run, the most of any 3-4 DEs in the NFL.

He had 4.5 sacks as a rookie playing the strong side, but his production dipped last year when he moved to the weak side to make room for Khalil Mack. We expect him to thrive now that he’s back in his comfort zone. …Jasper Brinkley is a thumper and one of the surest tacklers in the game. He will be taken off the field on obvious passing downs, but will be a leader when we’re in our base 4-3. …Anthony Hitchens was credited with 100 tackles by Dallas' staff and started at every position as a rookie. We’ll ask him to focus on MLB so the promising youngster hones his craft; He's slotted to be a starter in Dallas this year. …Lerentee McCray and Mike Hull can each play inside or outside, and should be big-time contributors on special teams. McCray has added value as a pass rusher and Hull tore it up at Dolphins' rookie camp.
Noteworthy: Lavonte David and Sio Moore have combined for 15.5 sacks the past two seasons.

The 6-0 200-pounder is an ideal fit at boundary corner. … Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie quietly had a very good season despite playing the year with a hamstring injury that severely hindered his flexibility and athleticism. …Perrish Cox and Brandon Harris will duke it out to be our starting nickel back, but the job will probably be Cox’s after a sound season as a starter for the 49ers. He allowed an opposing passer rating of 78, but is probably better served to work the slot.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS


The 2014 Minnesota Vikings were a team in turmoil. First year head coach Mike Zimmer had the difficult task of managing the Adrian Peterson fiasco, which hovered over the franchise for the entire season. To go along with losing your best player and the media storm that followed, the team was hit hard by the injury bug to a number of key contributors (Cassell, Rudolph, Loadholt, Fusco, & Greenway). Along with the injuries the team saw a decline in a few of their promising young guys (Patterson & Kalil).

A bright spot however, was the play of rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. After Cassel suffered an injury in week 4, the franchise turned the keys over to Teddy and were elated with the results. Teddy struggled early, but finished the 2nd half of the season on a tear (12 TD/7 INT, 94 QB Rating). Going into the 2015 season we wanted to upgrade the offensive line & weapons, move on from the Peterson saga and continue to add to our young and dynamic defense.


Quarterbacks
1. Teddy Bridgewater – Franchise QB

Teddy is a franchise QB that is ready to take a huge step in 2015. He finished last season on a high note, finishing the last 5 weeks with a QBR of 69.4 (Good enough for 9th in the NFL). He has all the tools and intangibles needed and showed tremendous growth as the season wore on. He was thrusted into a bad situation last year and made the best of it (Injuries to OL, AP situation, Rookie & Journeyman RB, Injured TE and raw WRs) to win the Rookie of the Year. Chase Daniels was brought in as a veteran to aid Teddy with his development and provide a stable backup should an injury arise.


Running Backs

This group will feature a heavy rotation of 4 backs, with each bringing a different skillset to the table. McKinnon, a 3rd round rookie, showcased his explosive athletic ability last season with a 4.8 YPC and showed off his receiving ability with 27 catches in split time. The expectation is that he will continue to develop and eventually become the lead back. Gore, off his 4th straight 1k yard season, brings a veteran presence and will be relied upon for his pass blocking, short yardage and goaline situations. Davis is someone we are very high on and believe he has the ability to be a 3 down back. Bolden will be a core special teamer.


Wide Receivers

This is a unit that we really wanted to upgrade and we gave Teddy a pair of #1 WRs. Out are Jennings and Wright and in are Marshall, Sanders, and Austin. Marshall will provide Teddy with a big possession receiver with great YAC. Sanders, fresh off 100+ rec and 1400 yds, will be our big play guy and move to slot in 3 WR sets. Johnson is a guy that everyone in the organization is extremely high on. Norv Turner called Johnson “far and away our best receiver” at the combine this year. He is a young big bodied, big player WR and someone that should fare well learning behind Marshall and Sanders. Austin was brought in cheap in the hopes that Norv can utilize him the way that Rams have not been able to. We also expect him to shine on special teams.


Tight Ends

Julius Thomas is a mismatch nightmare and gives Teddy yet another big redzone target to go along with Marshall and Johnson. Daniels and Tamme are veterans who will be relied upon to block but both have showed some receiving skills when called upon. Ellison will be moved around and play a little Hback, FB and TE.


Offensive Line

In 2013 the OL was among the best and last year it was hit hard with injuries and decline from former #4 overall pick Matt Kalil. We brought in Clady to solidify Teddy’s blindside and Pugh is currently penciled in as the LG, although he is versatile enough to play either G spot or RT. Ogbuehi will eventually replace Clady, but for now will compete at RT and possibly OG. We are expecting Fusco-Loadholt to return to form after injuries last season, but we have enough depth this year to compensate if necessary.


Defensive Ends

4. Scott Crichton – Developmental

Griffin really came into his own last year, with 12 sacks and providing good run defense. Coples is someone that we are very high on and feel gets often overlooked since he is the 3rd wheel with Richardson and Wilkerson (16.5 sacks in his first 3 years). He is going to play DE in running situations and slide inside on passing downs. Ray will initially begin his career as a pass rush specialist, but we plan to move him around quite a bit. Between Ray, Griffin, Coples and Barr we feel we will be able to create a lot of favorable mismatches. Crichton, 3rd round pick in ’14, is a guy we are going to continue to develop.


Defensive Tackles

Floyd took a big step forward in his 2nd year and provides the defense with some interior pass rush and is a good complement next to Joseph. Joseph’s main job is to contain the run, but he has also shown the ability to collapse the pocket (12 sacks in past 4 years). Bennett and Francois will be mainly used in nickel situations. Stephens is a young NT that we will continue to develop and showed some ability (even started 3 games as a rookie last year)


Linebackers

We figure a good portion of our snaps will be in some type of sub formation (4-2-5 or 5-2-4). Harris will man the MLB when we go to 3 LBs and is a good run defender and blitzer (123 tack, 5.5 sacks).

TeamManagement Goals​

​

Offensive:
Ouroffseason goal was to create a more balanced offensive attack while still beinga run first offense; the Texans led the NFL in rushing attempts last year with 551,finishing 5[SUP]th[/SUP] in yards 2161 / 135.1 per game and 14[SUP]th[/SUP] inrushing TD’s with 12.
Wewanted to bring in another capable running back to take some of the pressureoff Arian Foster and we are pleased with the addition of Steven Jackson who wethink still has enough gas in the tank for the secondary bruising role we seehim playing, with our 2 younger backs Blue & Agnew pitching in withcarries. Also brought in to help strengthen the already strong run game wereblocking specialist and former Giants Henry Hynoski (FB) and Bear Pascoe (TE).
We ofcourse wanted to improve the QB position and did the best we could by signingFA Sam Bradford while keeping the capable proven veteran Fitzpatrick asinsurance. We attempted to secure Bradford with a strong running game to allowfor more play action style passing attack and provided him with better weaponseven with the loss of old man Johnson who at $16 mil was just too much to keep.
TheOffensive line which is the strength of the offense was kept intact and we feelwe created better depth through the draft. The starters will remain almost thesame with only 1 new starter at LG (Brown, Su-A-filo, Myers, Brooks, andNewton) with veteran OT Clabo playing the swing Tackle and Ben Jones being theinterior Swing man at Guard or Centre, thus allowing our young draft picks todevelop. This group should be one of the best in the run game again and willcontinue to provide solid protection for Bradford, the unit only allowed 26sacks last year ranking 5[SUP]th[/SUP].
AustinSefrian-Jenkins provides a big body TE to go along with 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] year TECJ Fiedorowicz both of which provide large outlet targets for Bradford shouldthe pass rush get to him, Pascoe will play he blocking role while UDFAO’Shaughnessy could be the sleeper of the group.
DeandreHopkins will see his role increase with the departure of Andre Johnson andRueben Randle was brought in from New York to play the #2 WR role, we addedspeedy slot receiver Stefon Diggs via the draft who looks to be dangerous withthe ball in open space and rounded out a decent competitive group of depthreceivers with the addition of big body draft pick and versatile Tony Lippettand returning Devier Posey and Keshawn Martin.

Defense:
The goal here was simple improve the run defense withouttaking away from the impressive pass rush and take some of the pressure offsuperman JJ watt. We said goodbye to former #1 overall draft pick and potentialinjury / bust Clowney along with overpriced and often injured Brain Cushing whowas set to make almost $8mil this year. Upfront we felt we had to drastically improve the run D and did so by signed FArun stuffing specialist Ropati Pitoitua to play opposite JJ Watt on early downsand drafting the massive Jordan Phillips to play the Nose and eat up doubleteams freeing up space for the linebackers. Jared Crick a former starting RDEwas kept to come in on passing downs for Pitoitua while youngster Pagancontinues to learn behind Watt while 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] round pick and space eatingLouis Nix competes for snaps at NT.
Weoverhauled the linebacker position which was the weakness of the defense inpast years by creating depth, speed and versatility giving Romeo Crennell somemoveable cheese pieces to play with. Veteran OLB and pass-rusher Trent Cole was brought in via FA to play theJoker role and mentor our 1[SUP]st[/SUP] round pick Bud Dupree, while keepingstrong run stopping OLB’s Mercilous and Simon. Dupree is the wild card in thebunch and we see him lining up all over the defense as the Joker, on the strongside and possibly at DE on passing downs.
ReplacingCushing in the middle is a competitive group of versatile backers lead byBrooks Reed who will move from OLB to ILB alongside newly acquired Koa Misi withMike Mohamed who proved he could start last year and free agent pick up ZavierGooden providing the depth. We anticipate Reed playing some at OLB on passingdowns and Mohamed coming in as the better LB in coverage.
Losing cornerbackKareem Jackson to FA was a tough loss for the Texans and perhaps the one areaRPG feels he could have been more aggressive in keeping. Johnathan Banks aformer 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] round pick was brought in via trade to start alongsidereturning veteran Johnathan Joseph and Patrick Robinson another former 1[SUP]st[/SUP]rounder was a FA signing to create competition in the secondary. Daryl Morriswas kept along with last year’s surprise Jumal Rolle and should the unit getinto injury problems Tony Lippett can convert from WR to CB as he startedmultiple games at Corner for Michigan State last year.
DawanLandry was signed to bring in a veteran presence to the otherwise young safetygroup made up of Duke Williams acquired via trade with Buffalo, returning andunderachieving 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] round pick DJ Swearinger and this year’s draftpick Gerod Holliman who showed impressive ball-hawking skills leading the NCAAwith 14 picks last year.
Thesecondary will lean on a strong pass-rush from the front 7 as the young groupcomes into their own and builds chemistry, we want to see the corners play aggressivepress coverage at the line of scrimmage and the safeties bang some bodies. Wewant them to play a physical style of football lead by the willing hittersLandry and Swearinger.
RandyBullock returns in the kicking game while Thomas Morstead is seen as animprovement over the aging Shane Lechler.
Thisyear’s Texans team is a young group with the average age of 25.5 years that wefeel can play a fast paced exciting style of football the offensive average ageis 25.2 years while on the defensive side the average age is 25.6 years

RPG and the Texans address the position by addingformer #1 overall draft pick and Oklahoma Sooner "Sam Bradford" viafree agency to take over the starting role in 2015. Although often injured in St Louis on thathorrible artificial turf, Bradford looks to resurrect his career playing backin the “deep south” and on natural grass at NRG Stadium as he did during hiselite days as a Sooner in Norman, Oklahoma. The Texans look to have anexceptionally strong offensive line and Sam will be able to lean on a powerrunning game lead Arian Foster and company.
Ryan Fitzpatrick was retained as the veteranback-up who if called upon is more than capable of stepping into the startingrole, in 2014 he threw for 7 TD's while doing a good job of protecting the balland only throwing 8 picks.
Second year QB Tom Savage will continue to growbehind 2 veteran starters as the reserve at the position.

TheTexans improved their stable of running backs this offseason, retuning is ArianFoster who started 13 of 16 games last year, gaining over 1200 yards (4.8 YPC) and 8 TD's on 260 attempts on theground, he added 38 receptions for 327 yards and 5 TD's, which ranked him thetop 15. The Texans will look to monitor his carries in 2015 as injuries havestarted to impact the now 28 year old back that had 260 carries in 2014 whichwas 7th highest in the NFL.
StevenJackson was signed as a free agent for near the league minimum, he may be 31years of age but Jackson was actually one of the league's best backs afterfirst contact in 2014 recording over 700 yards, 6 TD's in 190 attempted with arespectable (3.7 YPC) while adding 20 reception for 148 yards. He graded out asa top 5 blocking back with over 450 snaps, he offers the Texans a better 3rddown blocking option than Foster and will help reduce the number of carrieskeeping Foster fresh during the season. He may no longer be a bell cow orstarting running back but he is a strong fill in when Foster needs a blow.
Blue,the 181st pick in last May's draft managed 3.1 YPC with 523 yards and 2 TD's on168 carries. He has good size but needs to improve in his second year; he willhave to battle with Agnew for touches this coming season.
Agnewis a promising change of pace back with good speed, he ran 4.57/4.60 at his ProDay, but turned heads with a 3.90 short shuttle and 6.75 three-cone drill,displaying absurd short-area quickness and change of direction, Explosive offthe snap, gets into high gear quickly, has the juice to get to the corner,capable pass-catcher with instant "go" after catch, 2014: 820 yards,10TD’s on 136 carries / 2400 yards and 22 TD’s in 4 years (2 @ Oregon State)rushing for 1,708 yards and 16 TDs on 316 carries (5.41 YPC), Agnew profiles asa special teams player and potential passing-down back

ASJwas acquired in a trade with the Buccaneers and is a massive red-zone target at6'5/262, the 2nd year TE and former Mackey Award winner is expected to be afeatured weapon in the Texans offense. He managed only 21 Rec for 221 yards in2014, playing in just 8 games but averaged 10.5 YPC, he is a strong blocker forthe run game and looks to stretch the middle of the field drawing Safetyattention away from Hopkins and Randle on the outside.
Fiedorowicza big (6’5/ 265) 3rd round pick last year did not perform as expect in 2014,starting only 8 games; he was used more as an in-line blocker than a threat inthe passing game. He will play behind ASJ in his second year and the Texanslook for an overall improvement for the 6'7/265 TE. Pascoe was a free agent pick up and another former Giant broughtto Houston by RPG, he is purely a blocking specialist, he was brought in toimprove the run game and help the development of CJ Fiedorowicz. He only saw148 snaps as a member of the Falcons last year but once again graded out as oneof the leagues better blocking TE's. O'Shaughnessy (6'4/248) was a3-year starter at ISU, posting a 29rec, 544 yards and 9TD's as a senior, is anAthletic Basketball tight end with plus foot quickness allowing him to stretchthe seam and challenge vertically, good concentration, hands catcher andvertical ability to compete for balls. His blocking is a work in progress, butthe Texans love his speed and work ethic, performed well as the Redbirds' ProDay, running 4.68 with a 35-inch vertical. He looks like a prime sleeper tomake a pass-catching impact in the pros.

StefonDiggs the Texans 5th round selection is speedy receiver who ran 4.46 atcombine, can play outside but is more effective from the slot, dangerous withthe ball in his hands, can contribute in Kick return game immediately, 2014 @Maryland posted: 62 Rec, 792 yards and 5 TD's, will compete with Martin forslot role Tony Lippett another draft pickof the Texans this year is a Big body receiver at (6'3/185), the Texans look touse his size in some red zone packages, In 2014 @ Michigan State posted: 65Rec, 1198 yards and 11TD's, can also contribute on special teams as a kickreturner. Lippett also started 3 games at CB last year and could be moved tothe defensive side due to his size and ball hawking abilities, versatile playeron both sides of the ball, we just love the upside he brings.
KeshawnMartin a former 4trh round pick struggled to get on the field last year recordonly 6 Rec for 76 yards, he will have to complete for snaps with former 3rdround pick Devier Posey, the 2 will battle for the depth role, as the Texansplan to use a lot of '12 & 21" formations with the strength they haveat TE & RB

TheTexans were determined to improve the depth of their O-line and work on theirpass protection for new QB Bradford, the line will be a force in the runninggame in 2015 with C, RG and RT all ranking in the top 5 run blockers at theirrespective positions just a year ago. The starting O-Line will have only 1 newface in 2015, “Xavier Su'a-Filo" their 2nd round pick in 2014 will get thestart at LG over Ben Jones who will become the swing interior lineman at eitherGuard or Centre.
DuaneBrown is a top 10 LT, strong in both pass protect and in the running game, hewill be leaned upon to keep Bradford upright and healthy for 16 games. ChrisMyers a serviceable starter who has 128 straight starts, was a top 3ranked run blocker at Centre but strugglesin pass protection.
Brookswill return as the starting RG, he was ranked the #5 run blocking Guard in2014 not allowing a sack and only gaveup 2 QB hits as he improved steadily in pass protection.
DerekNewton was resigned as the starting RT, he was the highest-graded run blockeramong RT’s last season having a break out season in 2014, needs to work on passprotection but only allowed 2 sacks and 6 QB hits all last year, Newton andBrooks will be a powerful duo in the run game in 2015.
TheTexans added 3 rookie lineman via the draft this year in: 4th rounder TyrusThompson who started 29 games at Oklahoma, light on his feet for a big guy haslength to be a starting left tackle in the league, athleticism to recover whenbeaten in pass protection, will look to compete with Tyson Clabo for swingtackle duties, he may eventually push Derek Newton for starting RT role.
CoreyRobinson a 5th rounder who started 34 games at LT for South Carolina, has amassive frame and very long arms, uses length to redirect pass rushers beyondQB when beaten by speed, moves better than expected for a man his size, size isan advantage when blocking for power running game, he will be moved inside toGuard for first year as Texans have good depth at Tackle.
GregMancz taken in the 7th round is a strong technician, shows proper handplacement in pass protection and as a run blocker, excellent footballintelligence, played tackle, guard and center in college at Toledo, he was MACLeague MVP in 2014 first Centre to ever win those honours, he will learn behindveteran Myers before looking to take over starting role in 2016.
Veterantackle Tyson Clabo was brought back for one more year and will look to keep hisswing tackle duties but will be pushed by the younger draft picks, has abilityto start as he did 15 times in 2013 in Miami.

Rookie Dupree could challenge Crickat RDE on passing downs.
JeofferyPagan last year's 6th round pick was brought back as depth and will have tofight for snaps behind the other Ends, he is stronger against the run but canconvert speed to power as a pass rusher

LouisNix (6'2/331) the Texans 3rd round pick last year made 30 starts at nose tacklein Notre Dame's 3-4, tallying 14 career TFLs and 2.5 sacks. A true two-gap"zero technique" in the Vince Wilfork mold, Nix possesses big hands (10"),relatively long arms (33") for his size, and the playing mentality of arun-stuffing space-eater. He may have to sub out on passing downs early, Nixwill likely play behind 2nd round draft pick Jordan Phillips

Alvin"Bud" Dupree was the Texans 1st round (16th) draft pick, he is aphysical beast with quick feet running 4.56, impressive vertical (42") andbroad (11'6") jumps. Although Dupree offers long-range edge-rush potentialbased on his jump-out-the-gym athleticism, he also showed cover skills andsideline-to-sideline range in the SEC, the tools are there for a big-time NFLimpact player, look for him to play the Joker role behind Cole on passing downsand take over that role in 2016. The Texans will find ways to get him on thefield, lining him up as the S-OLB on early downs and asking him to playcoverage while he develops his pass-rush skills, this allows Reed to move toILB. Dupree can slide to RDE replacing Pitoitua on passing downs allowing Reedto move back to OLB and maximize Houston pass rush. He was a team captain in2014, finished his senior season with 7.5 sacks and 23.5 for his career, whichwas the most by any active SEC player. He finished second on the team intackles with 74, including 12.5 tackles for loss
WhitneyMercilous a 2012 1st round pick is a strong run stuffer, better in coveragethan pass rush, was a top 5 (3-4OLB) in the run game last year while adding 5sacks, and 37 tackles, he will look to play early run downs but can also dropback into coverage. If the Texans choose to bring Crick in at RDE on pass playsMercilous will give way to Dupree as a pass rusher
JohnSimon is a depth player who will look to make his mark on special teams, heonly played 238 snaps last year but graded out strong against the run, only a3rd year player he versatility to play either linebacker or defensive end

Carolina Panthers




When new general manager took over the Carolina Panthers, he knew he had his hands full. Not only was the team in salary cap hell, with tons of money wrapped up in players with a ton of dead money associated with them. But they also had massive holes at wideout, offensive line, and in the defensive back field.

After, and God only knows how, he was able to unload D'Angelo Williams AND Jonathan Stewart, he replaced them with 3 very talented running backs, for the fraction of the price.

Along with running back overhaul, Panthers signed Cecil Shorts and acquiring Martellus Bennent to give some great new weapons to this offense. They also went out and acquired Sam Baker and stand out rookie RIGHT TACKLE Ja'Wuan James.

Panthers did their best work on the defensive side however. Going out and signing one of the better interior pass rushers in Henry Melton to pair with Star Lotulelei was a nice fit. Acquiring Vontaze Burfict was an absolute game changer. Burfict is one of the most explosive and game changing backers in the game.

In the defensive back field, Panthers brought on Antrelle Rolle, Pince Amukamara, and one of the best nickel corners in the game in Adam Jones.

Analysis:Clearly Joe Flacco is our starter. Derek Anderson is a reliable backup with a similar style of play to Flacco (pocket passer, decent deep ball, not very mobile, etc). The offense was built around Flacco's strengths which is deep and intermediate routes. This was not a position of need, aside from a reliable backup QB.

AnalysisAs we mentioned earlier, the offense is going to play vertically but we're going to incorporate 2 seam stretching TE's in the starting line up and 2 reserves who can supply similar skills. 1st round draft pick, Maxx Williams, was a major priority because of the offensive philosophy of the team. A young group that features 2 second year guys and a top rookie at his position, the nuances of the position will have to be worked out but the pass catching skills are top of the line. The loss of Dennis Pitta and Owen Daniels may hurt the run game a bit but it will be made up for with players that can get downfield and supply more speed and athleticism. A similar philosophy will take our receivers up another level. Losing Steve Smith's work ethic and competitive nature and leadership isnt something we wanted to do but we did need to get younger at the position. Wallace and Ginn will stretch the field vertically when theyre on the field giving the Ravens an element of scary deep speed. Ahgolor, Hartline and Latimer will work the middle of the field while Hartline tried to avoid the turf monster. Ginn will also handle KR/PR duties

AnalysisThe OL was a good unit last year but this Ravens staff values the interior OL as much as the tackles hence the heavy investment at the Center and Guards. Analysis:The Ravens defensive line is a dominant unit that offers versatile players who can fit different roles and even scheme versatility if we ever wanted to migrate to a 4-3 look in speed rush sets or a 5-2 look in jumbo sets. Closed End 5 technique Haloti Ngata is a dominant run stuffer who has lost a little pass rush over the years and youngsters Brandon Williams and Timmy Jernigan show great promise. Jernigan had a handful of sacks in a reserve role as a rookie and will play as an Open End 3 technique while Williams will play directly over the offensive center as a true nose tackle in a 0 technique. Kenrick Ellis will be a direct sub for Williams with Starks as the emergency spare nose tackle. Devito is the direct sub for Ngata and while hes about 50 pounds lighter, hes still an excellent run defender. Starks will be the direct sub for Jernigan and we believe in a reduced role he can still be a highly effective player. The rest will compete for spare snaps.

Analysis: This might be the deepest unit in the entire GM League on any team at any position. 5 deep at CB with a 6th guy, the versatile Antonio Allen who can play CB, FS or SS. Slay and Smith are the physical starters with Cary Williams in the slot giving the Ravens a physical trio that will see the bulk of the playing time. Vet Terrence Newman is still effective and can play inside or outside. Rashaan Melvin has talent but is still developing but was tendered as an ERFA. Will Hill and Michael Griffin are the starting safeties with Darian Stewart and Terrence Brooks as the reserves. Brooks can start for a lot of teams as he flashed his potential as a rookie in 2014. Stewart can take over whenever Griffin has a down year which seems to be every other year which means this one should be an all pro year for Griffin. High above the rich green Bermuda grass of Everbank Field, Jaguars Head Coach Pat Shurmer sat with General Managers FFG and vt_dolfan mesmerizing them with his aggressive vision of Jacksonville football. Shurmer wanted to match a versatile, high octane offense with a fast, slobber knocking defense. Following stops at Cleveland and most recently Philadelphia, lessons learned along the way were annotated in brown leather bound. The Journal was nearly full, filled with diagrams, plays, ideas and most importantly, what NOT to do. Both GM’s knew they wanted a head coach that had made mistakes along the way and learned from them. Shurmer was not risk aversive, but where he could, any risk taken would be grounded in experience.

Both GM’s were cognizant of the difficulties in building a Championship franchise, especially in the Sunshine State, where patience was in less supply then sun-screen. Florida’s transient population brought with them years of loyalty to teams such as the Giants, the Steelers, and the Cowboys. Convincing fans to come out to watch the Jaguars meant they had to not only win, but do so in an exciting fashion. All three agreed they had to turn Everbank Field, into “The Jungle”, a place where teams would hate to play, and fans would hate to leave. They knew a pool high above the end-zone would not be enough on game day. It had to be about the play on the field, and the play on the field had to be fast, dynamic, and ruthless. Our franchise sits right in the middle of College Football Country, and some of the countries best beaches are nearby. Obviously fans have a choice as to where they want to spend their valuable entertainment funds. With a close knit military community as the backbone of Jacksonville, we want our team to reflect that.

When asked which Defensive Coordinator he believed would put the teeth back into the Jag’s defense, Shurmer wrote just one name on a piece of paper, and pushed it across the mahogany table for the two GM’s to read. The smiles on their faces bespoke their agreement. Wade Phillips, the creative defensive mastermind who helped turn JJ Watt into a household name. He would bring his attacking, blitzing, ¾ defense to Jacksonville. All three agreed, the Jags must be a team that would create pressure on the opposition through the air, and on the ground, with an attacking unrelenting defense to match. There would be no quarter given, there would be no prevent defense. From whistle to whistle the Jaguars would bring the Gridiron equivalent of Armageddon.

Head Coach Pat Shurmer was as forceful as he could be in his request that we go out and get Nick. Obviously Nick knows this offense. He is accurate, and throws one of the best deep balls in the game. As high as Pat was on Nick, we felt it imperative to have another highly skilled QB on the roster that will give Nick a big competition this summer at training camp. We look forward to naming a starting QB this summer and and exciting competition between these two.

We were tasked to upgrade our roster at the running back position and this is what GM FFG did exactly. Taking the bull by the horns, she went after what we feel is one of the best backs in the league. DeMarco Murray is to be blunt, a BEAST. Accounting for over 2,200 hundred yards last season, he did it on the ground (1,845 yards) and in the air (416 yards), he is without a doubt the perfect back for Pat Shurmer. Behind our upgraded line, we expect DeMarco to have the best years of his career here in Jacksonville. Probably no back in the league had a bigger impact in helping fantasy teams late in the season last year then Denard Robinson. We traded for Devonta Freeman not just because he has great vision and balance as a running back, but hes an adept receiver out of the backfield as well. He allows us to stretch the field in both directions.

While we await for Justin Blackmon to apply for reinstatement to the NFL, we felt we had to be aggressive in going after WRs that will be a perfect fit for our system. With ultra talented Marqise Lee already in the folds, GM FFG sought to get QB Nick Foles a target he knows and loves. Riley Cooper knows this offense, and he understands the importance of being where our QBs expect him to be on the field. Ricardo Lockette brings size and a huge redzone target. Im sure everyone remembers his performance last season for Seattle in the Super Bowl. Sometimes guys just need a chance, and to seize that while on the world's biggest stage speaks volumes about Ricardo. The Icing on the cake was our ability to draft someone we feel will have a special career in the NFL. We will line Phillip up in the slot to start, but his ability to stretch the field from all angles, and his willingness to go up and get the football, will mean he will be used all over the field. And we do mean...ALL OVER THE FIELD.

We knew if we were going to have ANY chance to compete this season, and lets make no bones about it, that is exactly what we intend to do, we had to rebuild our line. We believe we have done that, and then some. GM FFG went out and got one of the leagues best Left Tackles to protect our QB's blind side in Brandon Albert. Stone cold center Brian De La Puente. De La Puente is a good pass-blocking center; in his three seasons as a starter he has never posted a Pass Blocking Efficiency under 98.2 and has given up a total of 46 pressures in 2144 passing snaps. In his best season has a pro, 2012, De La Puente managed to take his pass-blocking skill set and add to it by drastically improving his run blocking. In 2011 and 2013 he put up a poor combined run blocking grade of-8.5, but showed in 2012 what he was capable of by recording a +13.6. We love what we have in Chris Clark at RT, as well as we cant wait to see what our new monster Rob Havenstein will do for us at right guard.

Draft Overview:
We believed that if we were going to find any advantage to use in this years draft, it would be found close to home. We took advantage of the fact that within a day’s drive were some of the best College Football players in America. Many Saturdays were spent watching these athletes line up and shine against the best in the country. It was imperative to us that Jacksonville be able to find the best players so close to home and gather as much information on them as possible. This was reflected by our decision to draft our first four players from the Sunshine State. You just cannot over state how important it is to turn over every stone in your own back yard.

Dante Fowler from Florida we felt exceptionally lucky to find him available at pick 8. We honestly had him projected to go much higher. If you could see the grin on Wade’s face when it was announced we were on the clock. Fowler is both versatile and athletic. How we will play him, we will allow Wade to decide that. That’s why he is a defensive genius. Now, Im sure you all know who Ray Lewis is, the Hall of Fame Linebacker Great from Baltimore. Lewis didn’t just MAKE dynamic plays, he elevated those around him to make dynamic plays. This is Dante’s greatest gift in our opinion. He will make those that play around him better. He will be the vocal leader on the field. Now, he will tell you he calls himself the “Shaq of Football”. As long as he stays in Florida and doesn’t plan on leaving for Los Angeles, we are good with that comparison.

Phillip Dorsett, WR out of Miami. We would love to tell you first what kind of team player he is. Coaches RAVED about how he practices. It was no surprise to us when he was voted Most Outstanding Practice Player of the Week during Senior Bowl Week. Let’s face it, there are quite a few exceptionally gifted athletes in the college ranks. What separates them, and In our opinion proves what kind of Professionals they will be, is how responsive to coaching they are. Do they respond to being pushed? You know, the Navy Seals have a large bell that can be rung if a recruit has had enough. We chose players that would rather cut their leg off then ring that bell. That is Phillip. Oh yeh, did we mention his speed?

Clive Walford, TE Miami. If we could create the perfect Jacksonville Jaguar Tight End, it wouldn’t be far from what Clive Walford is. Clive will quickly become the best friend to BOTH Nick Foles and DeMarco Murray. We rated Clive as the best inline blocker in this draft, as well he brings athleticism and hands as a receiver. Hes lined up in-line, slot, and as H Back. This kid won’t leave the field. We are a team that MUST run the ball well to have success. Our offense is predicated on it. Clive makes this possible, by giving us a great blocker who can also be a threat in the passing game.

Anthony Chickillo – LB/Edge Miami. There was some talk about where we would play Anthony, some call him the classic tweener, not large enough to play edge, not agile enough to play outside linebacker. Wade will tell you he sees Anthony someday competing to start at outside linebacker. We believe he has the perfect size to be able to stand up to right tackle, tight end combinations in the running game. Chick is a warrior. He’s a warrior in the weight room, and he is a warrior on the field. He also checks off the list as far as NFL bloodlines go, with both his Father (Tony) and Grandfather (Nick) played at Miami and were drafted into the NFL.


Jeff Heurman – TE out of THE Ohio State. We were talking with one of medias most well-known analysts, can’t tell you who, but that man’s hair is bullet proof. Anyways, it was his opinion that Jeff could easily have been the top rated TE in the draft if not for his injury this season. What we like about Jeff, is hes got a little bit of a meat head in him. Reminds you a little of Rob Gronkowski as this kid just loves to have fun and play football. We feel he was under utilized in the passing game in Ohio, but, its Buckeye football, throwing to the TE is not what they are known for. We cant wait to get Jeff out on the field. We see Jeff and Clive being great additions to the passing and running game.

Shock would be an understatement when we looked at our board and noticed one name so high up that had yet been drafted. ,Rob Havenstein, our new offensive lineman from Wisconsin. This kid is a monster. We have Rob penciled in to compete at Right Tackle. With our zone blocking schemes, we needed not only a physically imposing lineman, but one who could get to the second level cleanly. For a man to get to the second level as fluidly as he does, you know you have yourself someone you can depend on. Speaking of dependability, Rob has logged 55 games in the last four years, including the Senior Bowl. I know our line coaches cant wait to get with Rob, and we are excited to see what he can do as a Jaguar in 2015.

This was the money round for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Let me tell you we LOVE the players we selected in the fifth round of this draft, and we were lucky to have three, back to back to back.

Adrian Amos – Safety, Penn State.
Adrian’s coach Bob Stoops, you may have heard of him, had this to say about Adrian. “He has the talent and versatility to be one of the best defensive backs in College Football”. Take notice of that, because as an organization, that has been a key area of focus, versatility. Adiran explodes downhill, showing the aggressiveness we want to be the cornerstone of our defense. He also shows the quickness and agility to alter his path mid stream, crucial to solid safety play. Adrian has played both the CB and Safety positions, versatility that we love. Once we develop and work on his tackling technique we see him being an important addition to our defense and special teams on Sundays.

Bobby Richardson - DL, Indiana. Bobby has the length to play head up over blockers in our 3/4. This kid as a motor. And not just any kind of motor, he has a "football" motor in that he never stops, on and off the field. He's raw and needs coached up, but what really impressed us about Bobby is his ability to be coached up. You can have all world skills, but if you got a street corner head, you wont make it very far in this league. He has a large frame that I know our strength coaches cant wait to put some meat on.

Craig Mager, CB, Texas State. Craig may have been the last pick of our 2015 draft, but Craig may be the first pick to lock up a roster spot. There isnt anything this kid cant do. There isnt anything this kid doesnt love to do when it comes to football, and let us tell you , he loves to hit. In 5 years if you were to paint a picture of the quintessential Jacksonville Jaguar, it may very well be Craig. Not only is he an explosive tackler, hes explosive at climbing the ladder, showing rare ability in a defensive back to high point the ball. Everyone raved about DeVante Parker's ability to high point the ball as a receiver, we think Craig is even better. We're gonna need to work with Craig to channel his aggressiveness, as he can be caught biting every now and then. Above all Craig is a great football player, and a good kid. Loosing his mom at a young age could have adversely affected him growing up, but instead its made him stronger. A four year starter at Texas Tech it wont be long until Craig becomes a mainstay on Sunday afternoons.


2015 Jacksonville Jaguars GML Wrap Up:

It wont take anyone long to see that this roster we have put together for the 2015 General Manager League is easily one of the most improved from year to year. Trading away top pick Blake Bortles was not easy, but we did not feel he was the best match for the vision we had for the team. That vision would revolve around bringing Pat Shurmur and his experience with the offense ran in Philadephia, and implementing it in Jacksonville. WE KNOW, Nick Foles can run this offense. That alone is going go be a huge upgrade over the production Jacksonville got out of Blake.

Jacksonville struggled to find a running back in 2014 that could clearly provide the foundation needed. The "Chip Kelly" offense Pat will put in place in Jacksonville is grounded in having a productive and reliable ground game. Gone is Toby Gerhart, replaced by one of the leagues premiere running backs, DeMarco Murray. DeMarco not only pounds the ball, but he catches the ball extremely well. His one cut and run ability is perfect for the Zone Blocking scheme we will deploy.

Our defense was created with one goal in mind. What kind of defense did we think Wade Phillips could turn into a monster. We have a stout defensive line, with big Paul Solai taking up space at the nose tackle. We have Sen Darik Marks looking to continue to get better and become a premiere defensive tackle. Our Linebackers are athletic and productive. They move fast side line to side line. We see Wade Phillips taking guys like Donte Fowler and Michael Johnson and using them in non typical ways to bring hell down on opposing QBs. Connor Barwin, Arthur Moats shedding blockers to shut down the run. We knew we could not completely remake every aspect of the defense and our secondary while much improved over last year, will still need additional work. We love getting Charles Woodson to play free safety. Still one of the most productive safeties in the league, he will be cornerstone on developing our younger players.

When we started to put our team together, we agreed on a singular vision for how we would like to see a franchise created. We both wanted our team to be exciting, to be versatile, and to be aggressive. So every move we made was with that vision in mind. We wanted the words, "Welcome to the Jungle" to resonate, to have meaning. We wanted you, our GML League competitors to look at our franchise and come away with the thought, "Damn, I'd like to see that on the field." Michelle was the hustle and muscle behind the Jaguars. She was a wheeling and dealing machine. It had me scared at times, as we moved up and down the draft board, but always her moves worked. She was the GM equivalent of how we wanted our franchise to be. Aggressive, and not worried about taking chances.

As we close, and submit to you our final product for voting, wed like to thank each and every one of you for an amazing "season". We had a blast and cant wait for next season. You can’t get much better than a starting DL of Quinn-Brockers-Donald-Long. This is the best unit in the league. Quinn is a beast with 40 sacks over the last 3 years and is scary to think he’s just now hitting his prime. Long has combined with 50 sacks over the previous 6 years to make for a great 1-2 punch. Orakpo and Ayers will also see time at DE.
Donald proved to be worth all the hype, winning DPOY and recording 9 sacks as a rookie. He is already considered one of the premier interior rushers and Brocker’s run stuffing makes for a perfect complement. Wright and Canty give this unit some great depth

Offense Summary: Our offense will be very balanced but will still give Peyton a ton of control to do what he wants at the line. Behind one of the best QBs in football, a stud rookie RB, unquestionably the best O-Line, and a familiar face at WR among some young guns with something to prove, this offense will be high scoring and efficient in using multiple sets. The offense could use I-Form one play and Shotgun the next depending on our gameplan or what Peyton sees in the defense. This flexibility will both prove effective and lengthen Peyton’s career because he won’t have to do everything himself.

Summary: Manning, when healthy, is still an elite QB in the NFL. Despite his noted struggles in the postseason, this is a team built around the offensive line and running game. Manning’s one of a kind football IQ and superior accuracy and timing will make the young receivers around him better as the season progresses. Although Peyton lacks a strong, game-breaking No. 1 wideout, we have a stable receiving corps that will give Manning many options. We think Peyton still has a few great years left, especially on a team where he isn’t asked to do everything, he will shine like never before in the postseason. Lovelocke is a real project but has NFL caliber size, arm, and mobility. Sitting for a year or two behind Peyton will do wonders for him when it’s his time to start.

Summary: Spending the no. 15 pick on Gurley seemed high to people but when this player has the potential to be Adrian Peterson 2.0 (minus switches) it seemed like a no brainer. AP certainly made the six teams who passed on him pay. Similar to Manning, Gurley does not need to do everything as a rookie; he will be eased into it and won’t need to hurry back from injury because of an impressive collection of Halfback depth. Gurley has game breaking ability; great speed, elite size, easily able to break tackles, and great vision. When he’s healthy, he’ll be a force and the type of feature back that Peyton has never had short of Edge James. Pierre Thomas is an incredibly underrated force as a back. Although he doesn’t have great acceleration, he is a tough back who can run between the tackles, keep his legs moving, and pick up the necessary yards. He’s a phenomenal receiver out of the backfield and pass protector; very welcome additions for Peyton. Robert Turbin is a back who was underutilized in Seattle behind Lynch but could potentially start if Gurley isn’t ready by week one. He’s another bruising back who has the speed to finish off a run. John Crockett projects very similarly to Pierre Thomas and will definitely be apart of a strong RB rotation.

Summary: Our one true flaw here is the lack of a true, no. 1 threat, however Eric Decker did have 11 touchdowns last time him and Peyton played (a reason he’s on this team in the first place). Giving Peyton a familiar face should help him in what is otherwise a very young group of Wideouts. Although young, there is a surplus of talent here, right down to the sixth man. Jarius Wright is a burner who can accelerate quickly while at the same time being a great route runner. Although he lacks elite size and strength, he is very versatile, able to play outside or in the slot, which should be helpful to Peyton. Justin Hardy was one of our favorite WRs going into the draft, someone who wasn’t drafted highly but could outperform his peers due to his fantastic route running ability, shutdown hands, and the ability to come back to his QB and be very QB friendly. Our WR corps rounds out with the large, physical Marlon Brown who, although still raw to the pro game, has mismatch creating size and good hands to be a presence in the red zone. Antwan Goodley and J.J. Nelson are great depth players, the former built like a brick but with legit, 4.4 speed as a down field threat and the latter ran the fastest 40 time (4.28) and will work as a backup slot receiver and a tremendous Return man.

Summary: There may not be a big name guy in the bunch but the potential here is sky high. Green is a plus blocker with good athleticism to function as a Julius Thomas type for Peyton both here and in reality. Chase Ford may get no buzz but he was having an impact at the end of the year in 2014 and has potential to be a dynamic receiving threat who can split wide. Jean Sifrin is a 27 year old rookie with a penchant for one handed catches and oozes athleticism. He’s raw as could be but he could see snaps due to his ability to make the big play.

He may have been overpaid but A) we had money to blow and B) his potential to develop into a star RT is something to invest in. Chris Hairston is a solid vet who represents excellent depth. He could start on other teams.

Andrew Norwell was a steal on the cut players market, a rookie who started for the Panthers and played very well. Feliciano is a rookie from Da U and is hulking presence, not great as a pulling Guard but versatile enough still to play inside and at RT if needed.

Defense Summary: We plan on switching from 3-4 to a 4-3 to truly wreak havoc with the devastating defensive pieces we have available. The key here is versatility; we have a lot of players who can play several different positions and we plan on using that to our advantage to confuse offenses. The heart of our defense is a pass rush that features Von Miller and Sheldon Richardson. Getting after the QB is our number one priority so our secondary can clean up and create turnovers. Neither the run or pass is safe against this D.

Ik Enemkpali - 529,670 (59,010)
Summary: Our defensive ends should keep opposing Tackles up at night. Sheldon Richardson was the second best DE in the league last year and only has 2 years on his resume. He should continue to evolve into a do it all threat that will eat LTs alive. Jabaal Sheard is an underrated player from Cleveland who was out of position at OLB. He played DE at University of Pittsburgh and should fit right in across from a dominant RDE in Richardson. He’s a power rusher who lacks an elite first step but plays the run very strong and should be able to grab a handle of sacks and hurries. George Johnson was another steal for us, exhibiting nickel pass rusher ability in Detroit last year. Although he’s a liability against the run, he would play outside on passing downs, moving Richardson inside, and give us a fearsome rush. Reilly and Enemkpali are young, solid rotation players. Reilly is a try-hard player who plays better against the run than the pass while Enemkpali is pass rush specialist similar to George Johnson.

Defensive Tackles

Summary: Damon Harrison was underrated as a 0 technique run stuffer last year and will stay at NT to disrupt running attacks while a combination of the rejuvenated Jay Ratliff and the diamond in the rough Tyrunn Walker start opposite him. Ratliff was a force against both the run and pass but did miss some time in September and October. He finished strong down the finish but we certainly aren’t expecting a performance that was a real revival of his Dallas days again. This brings us to Walker, who didn’t see more than 400 snaps at New Orleans last year, but consistently rushed the pass and was able to limit the run game. Christian Covington brings depth and although he also has injury questions, his potential is truly special if he can stay healthy. He should be involved in the rotation.

Outside Linebackers

Summary: Von Miller needs no introduction. Ever since joining the league in 2011, the 3x All-Pro has been versatile force at both 4-3 and 3-4 OLB. Here he’ll play the SAM but we’re going to move Miller around in a Joker sort of role. It’ll be hard to defend against Sheldon Richardson and Von Miller along with the rest of that Line. Starting opposite of Miller is Gerald Hodges, an emerging stud who played for the Vikings last season. A product of Linebacker U (Penn State) Hodges played 92% of snaps in the last four games and was excellent as both a run stuffer and defending against TEs and WRs. 2015 will be his third year in the league, so there's no telling how successful he could be in a full time role. Justin Durant is a wily vet who makes up expert depth for us, he started for the Cowboys last year before injuries affected him, but he will be on the field far less here. He is a jack of all trades and should be effective in a relief role. Darius Fleming was signed over from the Patriots and although he has limited experience, we think he has sleeper potential and will contribute on Special Teams initially.

Inside Linebackers

Summary: Acquiring Sean Lee was a boom or bust move for us but clearly when he’s healthy, he’s one of the best MIKEs out there. Lee can command a defense and functions well in all three areas; defending the run, the pass, and blitzing. Our hope is that Lee can come back healthy and contribute for 16 games. If not, our depth is strong enough to get by without him. Mark Herzlich has begun to emerge as a strong player against the run in the NFL. We think he has potential to be molded into a starting MLB and for the time being will serve as Lee’s backup. Damien Wilson is an UDFA from Minnesota who, although lacking in use as cover Linebacker, has a nasty temperament when taking down the ball carrier and will make some noise on Special Teams.

Summary: Two of the best and most underrated Corners in the game will serve as our No. 1 and 2 in a CB corps that has a ton of depth. Graham played most of his time at RCB in 2014 so Scandrick, who doesn’t have a preferred position on D, will start at LCB. Graham outplayed 2011 1[SUP]st[/SUP] rounder Stephen Gilmore last year and has went from unknown to one of the best at his position since joining Baltimore in 2012. Scandrick has been a steady and consistent force in a Dallas secondary that has had a tumultuous time among the bust additions of Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne. Scandrick is versatile enough to play the slot if necessary which brings us to Walter Thurmond whom we paid big bucks to start in the slot. Although he was missed the last 14 games of the year last year, we’re confident Thurmond will be healthy and effective as an agile, aggressive SCB. Similar to Scandrick, he is versatile enough to move outside. Backing up our starters are three young players. Steven Nelson is a very aggressive, gutsy CB who lacks height but makes up for it with excellent technique for a rookie. We have the utmost confident that he could start day one inside or outside if need be. Bobby McCain is another aggressive CB who is probably limited to Slot duties because of height. However, this doesn’t make him any less effective as our outside guys; McCain is a great tackler as well as cover corner, and will make a big hit despite his size. Dexter McDougle missed all of last season but we still want to see what we have in him.

Summary: Mike Adams is an older player but he still had a great year for the Colts in 2014. He might take a step back in 2015 but we are confident he will still make a difference and at the same time take Calvin Pryor under his wing. Pryor had a typical rookie year, ups and downs that included a benching but after returning to the starting SS spot, he played much better and ended the year strong. Although he is still growing to be an asset in coverage, he is already a very good run stuffer and has a knack for making huge hits. Tavon Wilson was brought over from the Patriots and is versatile enough to play either Safety spot. He didn’t get too many snaps but we like his potential to step into a starting role if Adams or Pryor goes down. Ladler was a UDFA last year for the Bills and we like his aggressiveness in stopping the run. He’s a project player who should see time on Special Teams and could be a starting SS with some polish.

In the end, we took a team with limited assets and turned them into an immediate Super Bowl contender. We built a strong offensive line and brought Peyton in to replace Geno and give the future Hall Of Famer one last chance at a Super Bowl.
