I don't think I've seen anyone post this but I've just come across it. It's a pretty interesting read, looking at who the dolphins will take to training camp and end up in the 53 man roster. http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...04/miami-dolphins-post-draft-depth-chart.html
Some guy suggested in the comments that we put Pat White as a return man. What are your guys thoughts on that??? Don't wanna see him get lit up on kick returns like in the Steelers game.
Here's my take on the roster: Honestly, I have these guys pretty much locked into the roster (as things stand now) unless they get traded or injured(in no order): QB: Henne, Thigpen, Pennington RB: Brown, Williams FB: Polite WR: Marshall, Bess, Hartline, Cam TE: Fasano OL: Long, Jerry, Grove, Carey, Berger, Garner DE: Odrick, Langford, Merling, McDaniel DT: Starks, Solia OLB: Wake, Misi, Moses, Anderson ILB: Dansby, Crowder, Dobbins, Edds CB: Davis, Smith, W. Allen, J. Allen, Carroll S: Jones, Culver, Bell, Clemons K: Carpenter P: Fields LS: Denney Of the above, I guess J. Allen and Carroll are most borderline, but unless AJ Wallace catches on, I can't see any DBs that would replace either. Same goes for the S's. I think Moses has enough promise to stick over Johnston and Walden. I'd say Haynos and D. Thomas have a very good chance of making the team, but I don't know if they are locks as is. Listed above is 43 players which would mean only 10 spots left. I'd have to think we carry at least 3 RBs (maybe both Cobbs and Hilliard, but at least one) and 3 TEs, so that would be 3 more players (46). I think we would carry another T and another G on the OL, but maybe we carry Thomas and Incognito instead? Either way we're having at least 8 OL (48 spots). I think we carry at least 5 WRs and I would put money on Turner probably (49). I really think Dotson sticks because he can probably play DE/NT and the staff seems to like him, but we're at least going to have 7 DL (50). I would figure we carry at least 9 LBs (but maybe 10). I think McCoy has the best chance to claim the 9th spot because of his supposed pass rush (51). That would leave 2 roster spots to be fought out among everyone not mentioned above(and even then it's only until Ferg gets back). So for the 10 roster spots, here are the bubble guys I guess: QB: White RB: Cobbs/Hilliard/Sheets (at least one sticks in the aforementioned 51) WR: Pruitt, Johnson, Grice-Mullens (I'm already writing off the UDFAs, sorry) TE: Haynos, Nalbone, Sperry (at least 2 stick) OL: Smiley, Thomas, Incognito, Gardener, Murtha DE: Dotson, Baker, Alami-Francis OLB: McCoy, Johnston, Walden (despite Walden's ST performance I don't have high hopes for either sticking) ILB: Torber, Spitler (I'd say Spitler has a better chance, just because I think Torber is gone due to $) CB: AJ Wallace (has a chance to stick because of return skills) If I had to pick 10 from the above list I would guess: Cobbs, Hilliard, Haynos, Nalbone, Incognito, Thomas, Gardener, Dotson, McCoy, White. I'll probably only get half of the 5 above right, and miss some of my 43 locks.
I was afraid we had seen that in last season's finale immediately after the hit. I'm not sure Pat White has the size necessary to play in the NFL period. I could be wrong, Warrick Dunn had a really good career, but it doesn't look good at this point.
White might be a terrific return man since he would basically be running for his life and self preservation. This is going to be an interesting training camp and there may be some action with players who are waived by other teams.
too much for me to process @ this point got to wait & see how they look in training camp what i do see is an attempt to get even more physical in the game beyond that, things just have to be sorted out
I would have some trepidation about play calling the return as "Holy Terror right" or "Scared @#(^less up the middle." It wouldn't be good of that were picked up on the boom mike.. In seriousness, I am having real doubts about White's effectiveness in virtually any capacity. His arm has not proven sufficient either in practice to warrant much trust in game situations for he has been given few chances; nor, for that matter, in the game when he has been given the chance. It would also appear that he is a liability in the return game. The only thing that has seen a modicum of success is running from the wildcat formation, yet he is not a better runner than Brown. Which begs the question: "What is his position on this team?"
I don't know why you guys think Pat White is so small. He's bigger than Ginn and DeSean Jackson, two of the better return men in the league. I don't think he's be a good returner, but he's not too small.
Yep, Whites not small. He got jacked up in the steelers game, yes. But that's because hes a quarterback who didn't know how to avoid the hit. (and rightfully so, he never had to at WVU) not saying he'd be a good KR, cause i doubt it. But don't write the guy off because he took a helmet-to-helmet shot and didn't get up from it. I've never seen a guy get made fun of more for trying to be tough and get an extra yard. If he had done the opposite you'd all call him a *****
pat white ran a 4.5 at the combine. During his college days he was rumored to be clocked at 4.38 before adding on weight to be a QB for the combine. Josh Cribbs ran a 4.6 at the combine, and he's a pro bowl KR. pat white only looked slow because we ran unnecessary sweeps and counters whenever he was in. Those are the longest plays in the game to develop and almost nobody (outside of Kris Johnson) has success running them consistently.
Pat White isn't slow. He's not as fast as them, but I never said he'd be a good returner, just that his size is not the issue.
I actually wouldn't mind seeing that however they are most likely going to try Gryce Mullen and AJ Wallace there first.
i dont think white wants to make the team at anything other than quarterback i didn't like the pick last year and it'll be interesting to see the fight over training camps to get him to move elsewhere
This is the deepest dolphins' depth chart since I started watching my beloved phins in 1994. Sure we could upgrade some positions next season as FS and TE.....but overall we have a very solid team, with a ton of youth and potential.
