http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast And there it is, to me that is the no B$ reason why JP wants out. Here is the way I see it, Wake made the game saving hit on Brady that allowed Crowder to have his first Int..ever to seal the deal. Porter recovered the fumble aganst the Steelers in the final game, if Thiggy doesn't throw an Int we maybe win that game. But if boils down to this, then JP probably should leave, and we should probably retain JT and play him at the Will until they are 100% on Cam Wake or whomever we draft this April. TBH, Wake, JP and JT simply cannot coexist on a 3-4 team, we can keep two of the three, but Wake ain't leaving (unless traded) JT is a FA and JP is trying his level best to leave Miami.
Someone needs to remind porter that he's 32 years old and not 27. God forbid we put some youth on the field.
Usually, I'm in favor of veterans playing, but Cameron Wake came through at the end of several games this season with sacks. In very limited time, he accumulated more than half of the sacks of our sack leader. I want to keep Porter. I do, personally. Though, it sounds like he's just protecting himself from GMs believing he's slowing down.
Exactly, Peezy is "right" he was our best Will last season, I mean Charlie Anderson? Really? Wake is a work in progress as well, but what JP is doing is basically trying to force his release so he can sign a FA deal in an uncapped year, one last bite at the apple if you will. I'm a huge Cameron Wake homer as my sigline suggests, but playing fulltime OLB right now would require a heck of alot of improvement on his part in one offseason. We lose JP we almost HAVE to sign JT or Draft someone or whatever, if Cam Wake flames out at OLB Charlie Anderson is not keeping Qb's up late at night we will need someone else.
I made that point once up in Club, early in the year when Wake was going well, like the Bills game, none of the other Lb's celebrated with him when he got those 3 sacks, only Randy Starks.
Was that you? Didn't seem like much at the time, but it's looking pretty spot on now. Something's obviously going on behind the scenes there. I can't find it but I remember there being reports about it. if you have it bookmarked let me know because I want to go back and read it now!
I just listened to the interview on WQAM and it isn't pleasant. Porter pretty much strips it bare , he doesn't respect his coach , his focus is on #55 , he prefers to be out west ( SD AZ SF ), wants to be with a 3/4 team, and there is real deep animosity here. He told Channing Crowder , in response to the question , what would you have to be told to make you want to be back , he clearly stated he wouldn't believe what Sporano would tell him. This is a player who wants OUT , and has facilitated that outcome.
Exactly, he said some other things as well, the problem is imho Cam Wake is just not ready to step in for Porter at Linebacker. We simply must have insurance at OLB.
if that's true then i say we fire sale his *** and trade him for whatever the raiders are willing to give. That way he gets out west but doesnt land on a contender at all. He gets his cake but doesn't get to eat it too.
I don't care about punishing Porter. I would want value, whether its a Superbowl contender or cellar dweller.
seems to me that Wake is focused on football and not socializing. that would make him not one of the boys. Crowder needs to be more of a team player and realize his buddy isn't the player he used to be. I have enjoyed Porter until this season, now I say get rid of this cancer before he really destroys this team.
Porter should wake up and smell the coffee. He suffered from two injuries and it showed. He wasn't as explosive as last year. Cam Wake was our best pass rusher. Wake had 20 QB pressure while Porter only had 11. Wake had 6 QB hits, Porter 5. Wake only had 2 sacks less than Porter. Difference being? Wake played 167 snaps, Porter played 755... The coaching staff had every reason to give Wake some snaps over Porter. All this proves is Porter isn't a leader, and isn't a team player. He wants to go to a 3-4 team out west, I'd love nothing more than to ship him to a 4-3 team here in the east. As long as he isn't playing for NE or the Jets I'm happy, sure don't want him going to a rival because I'm positive he can still be a 10+ sack guy easily.
I'm with you there, I liked Porter, but he clearly has made a decision to move out of Miami and he does not care what he has to do to leave. Interesting thought but those teams who made the final 8 in the playoffs would be a landing spot for him, they have that injunction against Signing FA's, but they can trade for whomever they wish.
Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, All of our receivers, Chad Henne... not even our defensive linemen complain about splitting time a lot more than Porter had. I think Padre is right. Joey Porter could be simply looking for another payday.
He's a punk of a human being and the level of class on this team will rise significantly the day he's no longer a part of it.
I think this sums it up really well. Maybe this controversy was one of the many reasons our defense was so god awful this year. Hopefully once he's gone, this crap is over and our defense can concentrate on football. Porter, IMO, was useless this year and I'd say at least 4 of his sacks were clear cut coverage sacks. I'll take 3 less sacks from a guy with a little less talent than Porter, his mouth, and huge contract any day.
This is why there is an old saying: Better to let people think you are an idiot than to open your mouth and prove them right. Porter is jealous, he sees the writing on the wall and last time I checked both JP and JT have had their "I am infinitely important" days over the course of their career. We'll trade him, but he just garaunteed he won't get his wish, they will trade him to somewhere that will humble him, like GB for instance. This regime held onto Jason Taylor until it met their needs, what Taylor wanted could have been written on a cocktail napkin for all they cared. Peezy will go nuts with this FO, he can't do anything else, his leverage is meager at best in a draft year with good 3-4 OLB prospects.
The funniest thing I have heard from Porter hrough out all his comments was when eh told Rome that he was a team player. Really, how many "team players" through their teammates under the bus like that? How many team players don't come out of the game when their coach askes them to?
Bye Porter, time for our Fins to move on. We are trying to develop a winning culture in Miami, and build it on a team, this means we only need team players.
once a player goes as far as Porter has to make it known he doesn't want to be here anymore, there is no value. If Porter's still on the team at the start of free agency, we're going to have to pay $1 million and change just for being on the team. It's possible we cut him before that just to avoid paying him that money. Porters gonna get out of Miami one way or another. His contracts too big for us to bother keeping him if he's gonna be a problem.
Hey, on 4th down Joey Porter wrapped up and couldn't bring down a PUNTER, so why isn't that being brought up?
This seems to be overlooked. I am glad you brought it up, Raffie. It bothers the HECK out of me too, only one year after we gave him a big free agency contract when the market had little to no interest in his underachieving arse. Crowder's mouth is second only to Porters. Where Porter is obnoxious, Crowder is usually just smart-assed. Put them together, though, and Porter is toxic to Channing... potentiating Channings own dumb-tongue. Come on Channing, keep it behind closed doors... unless YOU'RE also trying to get out! I think BOTH of them have heard that the regime blames a garbage LB corps for many of our problems. But Channing MIGHT want to get to know his new defensive co-ordinator, Mike Nolan, before complaining about how he'll be used. Maybe Porter and Channing blame Pasqualoni more than Sparano though?
Wonder if Denver would take Porter and our late 2nd for Marshall? Or perhaps Zona takes Porter and our 3rd for Boldin?
Crowder is an idiot......I'd take nothing he says seriously. He's got one more career INT than our mascot. The time for him to shut up and make some plays is long past.
Wow those are some pretty harsh words from Porter considering that Wake has more upside and with the right DC, will be better than him....Consider the fact that he played in 13 games, started none (I believe) and got limited snaps on a rotating basis, and still got 6 sacks....if he had a full year he would have most certainly had double digit sacks no doubt.... And you know what too, I'm getting sick of Crowder, I'm right there with saying this guy needs to get cut...I'm sick of guys who talk a bunch of crap, and show nothing to back it up...what about you Crowder you good?? You straight?? u clown....go get an ILB through free agency, and draft McClain, so we can bench this guy, or trade him...
Think we could get super lucky and get rid of Crowder too in a 2 for one deal? Hey, a guy can hope right? I've never liked Crowder, and was downright amazed when he got re-upped last year. We would have had better success fielding one less man on the field. While I understand Porter is his friend, Porter dropped the ball this year and played like crap. Porter also doesn't sign his checks, and last I checked had one good year here during a season in which we were playing the bottom of the barrel schedule. Augh, I can't stand toxic players like this. At this point I'm not even interested in thinking about the drama Brandon Marshall might bring along either. Can we just get rid of the drama queens please and play some F'ing football? It sickens me to think that our playoff chances could have died because Porter couldn't pull the stick out of his ***.
While Peezy may be right in that he is the best OLB we have on the squad, Cameron Wake is our best pure pass rusher. So....on clear passing downs....why would I not have my best pass rushers on the field, regardless of their completeness as an OLB.
I don't recall Wake flappin his jaws off to the other teams sometimes the silent ones are the deadliest. I do remember JP put a fire under the Patriots who in return made JP as good as a no show (Pats won). JP mouthing off the way he is to the media makes me dislike him it is not a positive thing for the whole team. Not what i call a team player TEAMS WIN not individuals.
ROFLMAO One more than our mascot i'm thinking the mascot needs a raise. Crowder has to be the seasons number one drama queen until peezy stepped up.
I agree with almost all of this. The one part I don't is that I don't see Joey as a 10+ sack guy anymore. Part of that is because of his age and inability to stay healthy for a full season. The other part is that I don't see him being a full-time player anywhere, except possibly on a less talented team (and if that's the case, he'd be hard-pressed to get to 10 sacks anyway). Also, I can't see him going to NE or the Jets. I don't think he'd be a full-time player at either place, albeit probably more likely in NE than the Jets. And he wants to be a full-time player, as well as go out west. So, I'd count them as very remote possibilities should he be set free.
You really should listen to the archived interview on WQAM , there is a lot to garner from it. Unfortunately , almost all of the information , sense of team , is not at all positive. Players in a funk , insubordination , lack of effort , under cutting teamates , challenging the coaching leadership , etc. etc. etc . It is almost impossible to win , instill a winning , team enviroment with actions such as this. Unfortunately this raises real concern for me , hopefully it is isolated to one bad apple , however the lingering doubt prevails that it may not be. That , is a potential cancer to the success for this team , imo.
Porter= A person with narcissistic personality disorder: * Reacts to criticism with rage, shame, or humiliation * Takes advantage of other people to achieve his or her own goals * Has feelings of self-importance * Exaggerates achievements and talents * Is preoccupied with fantasies of success, power, beauty, intelligence, or ideal love * Has unreasonable expectations of favorable treatment * Requires constant attention and admiration * Disregards the feelings of others, lacks empathy * Has obsessive self-interest * Pursues mainly selfish goals
Then you are really not going to like how every other defensive player is on Porter's side as well. His teammates LOVE him. and that is in both places he has played at. it is about time that we watch this for what it is ....and not take Sparano/Ireland/Parcells side just because they are guaranteed to be here. This all started over bull****.
