Armando should pay us to read this crap. How hard is it to chop together the most obvious statements possible?
WOW! BREAKING NEWS...Porter can talk!!! Nice excuses too. New place, bad coaching. OK, now lets see if Porter can still play football. I, personally, would love it if the guy would not talk. No quotes (because they are worthless). Play football...make yourself known on the football field not in a newspaper article.
I just hope our new staff will use porter properly. The guy can be an impact player on our Defense. Our coaching was obviously terrible last year, and if porter is used right this year, he should have a great year for us. Of course he's going to like this year better... this team at least has a sense of direction and purpose this year...
Question: Would you take one of the best linebackers out there and line him up with his hand in the dirt?
Better question: Can you find the man who actually answered this question incorrectly? No one can find him, even Bill Bellicheat
Desides compares 2008 and 2007; thinks Joey Porter should jump off a bridge and take Armando with him. Yeah, Porter blows up at Cameron and we're surprised that he likes the post-Cameron era more? Whatever.
I think people blaming porter is wrong, he had to play under the leadership of zach, jason and cam. I give him a clean slate in my book and look forward to his play and leadership.
Desides should compare film on 2007. See what happens to Joey's numbers when he doesn't have his hand on the ground as much ...
If Joey Porter can't be a versatile player, what in the hell is he doing making $20 million guaranteed?
The most important name missing from your list is D. Capers, IMO the architect and head contractor of the single biggest defensive implosion in the history of the NFL
Pauly... i dont even blame Capers for what i saw last year. i'll tell ya who i blame... 1] The worst drafting team in the nfl over the past 10 years 2}musical coaches 3} bad leadership on the football field 4} No toughness in the players that were here before porter. 5}The worst home field advantage in the NFL. 6} the worst enviroment {miami} to try to create a unified culture. 7} the worst quarterbacking at that position in the league in the last 10 years. 8} the most spoiled fanbase in the league..{we cant support our team but we love to ***** and moan 9} injuries 10} #4
Yeah, for example look at all the times we see Peyton Manning lining up as the tailback. Some serious logic you've got going there. Joey Porter has shown he can be a force to be reckoned with as a LB, to play him with his hand on the turf and expect the same results is just idiotic.
djphinphan, Our drafting over the last 10 years hasn't been as bad as the Raiders or the Lions. We're in th bottom third no doubt, but we can't use bad drafting as a crutch for everything. We haven't been the worst drafting team in the NFL, but there's a good case to say we've done the worst job of developing the talent we've drafted. With respect to your points 2, 3 4, 5, 6 and 10 they're issues that become a problem when you have bad teams, but they do not cause bad teams. On the QB issue Jay Fiedler gave us 5 years or so of average NFL QB play. I wouldn't say that our QB situation has been worse than the 49ers, Bills or Lions over the last 10 years. Injuries did hurt us but our defense was putrid before the injury bug bit hard. It wasn't a case of the defense playing well and then falling apart after injuries to key players. From the 1st down of the 1st game our defense sucked last year. Why I put the Lion's share of the blame for the Defensive collapse last year on Dom's shoulders. 1) He messed with Nick Saban's defense when that defense was a proven top 5 defense the previous year. 2) Almost every single personnel assessment last year on defense was wrong. We kept people we should have cut, cut players we should have kept - Rick Mueller deserves some of that blame but the DC is the guy to let the GM know who's playing well and who's deadweight. 3) The young defensive players during his tenure showed no signs of improvement. Compare the progression and improvement of players like Vernon Carey, Sampson Satele, Ronnie Brown and Ted Ginn with Matt Roth, Channning Crowder, and Jason Allen. I accept that you're never going to hit on 100% of your draft picks, but I do expect to see at least some of the young players develop and improve. The only young defensive player who showed and real signs of improvement was Jason Allen, and a lot of people who know behins the scenes stuff credit that improvement to Coach Cameron, not Coach Capers.
Who said he couldn't be versatile? A linebacker doesn't put their hand on the ground. Would you argue that a DE that doesn't line up in the defensive backfield? Heh, go read Bill Plashcke over at the LA Times. Just try it. One sentence paragraphs galore. I'm serious too.
Ok so if someone offered you 4x the amount of money as your current salary to do the exact same job you would turn it down because you knew you were being overpaid? I'm sure you would, but my point is that it's not the player's fault that someone is willing to overpay for their services. I'm not even getting into the Porter debate bc its a joke at how uninformed most of his haters are so its a waste of time. And yes, that article was written by a 7th grader who plagerized a 4th grader.
I thought he was overrated in pittsburgh and when pittsburgh let's a player go they normally don't play very well after they leave. Plaxico and greene are some exceptions. I don't think Porter should have ever been a Dolphin. We had class players like Zack and Jt, Porter is classless and him insulting other players only get's the other team fired up to play us. We should sneak up on teams and hope they take us for granted not shoot off our mouths. Porters an Idiot!!
He came to us while we were supposedly still running the hybrid defense. That defense requires versatility. For $20 million, I expect excellence for the first two years of the contract, great play the third, and at least solid play the rest of the way.
Lets just blame Joey Porter for our 15 losses last year. Surely we can think up a reason he lost every game for us. Once again, whos fault is it that he got paid $20 million? Ours, so if you want to blame anyone for it then blame our former FO. And if you expect immediate excellence from coming off a surgery, playing out of position and learning a new scheme then all I can say is that it just isn't realistic. Sure, we all want an instant impact player for that money (and should get one) but you have to look at the specific situation.
I didn't say he lost us everygame I said he was classless and we shouldn't have signed him. You are right we need to blame our previous front office. No one else was going to give porter that type of money
i really think it comes down to understanding what type of player can play in miami, i feel its a very unique city and enviroment that requires a player that must be wired differently to play here....How long has it been since we've seen a tough team around here....72.73, iam not old enough to remember, all i know is this new regime gets it. its so important especially in this culture here to draft tough self motivated hungry players, even if you have to slack a little bit in the talent dept, we should never do that in the identity dept. To me last years team was so void of these qualities and leadership, from the head coach to the team leader, we were the worst team of players ever....i dont blame capers for that, i really dont.
Just about everyone is getting $20M nowadays. Look we just tried to give Calvin Pace that much, and he hasn't even shown more than one year of excellence. He could be a one year wonder. Btw I think we're giving Porter more than $20M. That's just guaranteed. If we cut him, then yeah we'll owe him the rest. I think we'll see him succeed this year, he had like 5 sacks on the back end of the season. 60 tackles. That ain't a bad season. Pace had more tackles but only one more sack.
Right, people need to understand that the huge bonus is obviously a signing strategy. Everyone knows their overpaying but its part of how FA works. Calvin Pace is an excellent example.
What'd he mess with, and why was it wrong? Who? Zgonina, Carter, and Traylor were huge gambles to fall apart, and there was nothing in the way of replacements really out there. Bowens was let go because he wasnt in the plans, Capers almost assuredly wanted to go to a 3-3 or 3-2 passing down formation. You cannot attribute fault to Capers for personnel assessments when you have no idea what his assessments were. They didnt improve under Saban, either.
